I really like this, it just sounds so much like the world of Final Fantasy 6. A baroque, mechanical world, that breaks apart from the troubles which inhabit the minds of the people whom live on it. Full of drama, theatrics, and tragedy. You made it sound like the greatest play of all time, considering that Final Fantasy 6 is styled like a play. Just masterful.

Is it wrong that I consider FF6 to be one of the penultimate must-play games out there? I mean, I'd love to see what they could do with it nowadays- to think that they crammed all of that into one cartridge back in the 90s... maybe after they give FF7 the remake treatment, they give it to FF6? Now THAT would get them an entire bunch of new fans... Floating Continent- the harp really gives you the idea that you're floating through the air, but then the other instruments and the drums- I want to say kettle drums, but it's been a long while- they come in and add a sense of menace to the music. It fits the area perfectly- a mixture of everything coming together at the worst possible time storywise, setting the stage for Kefka to flip the proverbial table. This tune reminds me of the AtmaWeapon- what a pain that one was! The strategy I had to use to finally beat him- Runic every turn and run him out of as much MP as I could while attacking him with everything I could throw at him. Magitek Lab- Yeah, this is pretty much the second wham moment of the game- all those Magitek machines are the result of living, breathing, sentient creatures being drained of their lives- even Celes's own power was the result of an Esper (more than likely a version of Shiva) being sapped almost to death. About the only bright spot in the entire lab is the fact that you gain so much Magicite after the place that you can teach a good selection of spells to everyone. The saxophone really brings it together- the music matches the feeling of the place- especially as you push deeper into it and find the Empire's dirty little secret, and the rest of the brass and woodwinds give you the feeling that something is very wrong with this place- though your music of the place is really very well put together. Slam Shuffle- This song's a guilty pleasure of mine- it's just lots of fun, and it just brings to mind a rough-and-tumble part of town where not everything is on the up-and-up- kind of like Zozo itself. It just brings to mind an outlaw Western town, or a gypsy encampment if you will. I like how it starts out, but when the main part of the song kicks in, about 5:01, the strings get swallowed up by the big counterpoint the brass instruments put out- enough that they tie it for control of the song. Maybe if you lowered the volume on the brass so the violin or whatever you decided to use didn't have to try and fight with it to share the spotlight? The Veldt- I love the trumpet accent on the song- it really makes it sound like it would be out of something like one of the "Wild Arms" games- bringing to mind more of a brushland or mild desert instead of the savannah-like grassland in the game. I used to not really think of Gau as all that useful- but you just need to learn what rages do what and hope the moves you need come up. Forever Rachel- ...anybody that says games can't move people emotionally needs to sit through this scene, preferably with your take on this song, followed directly by your version of Locke's theme. The music is perfect- you get the poignant, sad vibe from the music, just as the scene goes- Locke gets a couple minutes to say his goodbyes and finally apologize for everything that had happened, and Rachel just tells him to stop beating himself up for her accident- and to finally forgive himself for everything that happened. (If you can watch this scene and keep your eyes dry, you don't have a heart, I think.) Followed up with your version of Locke's theme (which is perfectly slower than the original version), it makes you think of the meeting between Locke and Celes right after Rachel gives her life to restore the Phoenix magicite. Finally free of the emotions that roiled his heart for so many years, Locke is free to finally move on- which is illustrated beautifully by the seamless way you surge from the quiet tones of "Forever Rachel" into the louder, brassier Locke's Theme. I mean, let's face it- at this point, the relationship between Locke and Celes has come full circle- she becomes essentially his reason for going on in the first half of the game, and then the barest hint that he might still be alive is enough to keep Celes going through a world ruled by Kefka. Rachel recognizes that while his heart has moved on, his mind won't allow him to- and gives him both her blessing and what is likely one of the most valuable shards of Magicite in the game- and the only way to learn the second and third-level Life magic- just so she can keep protecting him in her own way. Finally, well... you get the most iconic tune out of the game, Terra's. (I feel that Terra and Celes- and to a smaller point Relm- are proof positive Squeenix can write good female leads. Terra is looking for a place to belong- one she finds in the ruins of Mobliz protecting the children from roving monsters, and Celes is looking for a reason to keep fighting after losing the companions who have come to accept her and given her a place, and she ends up finding one by finally taking the initiative and doing something for herself instead of waiting for someone else to decide something.) You can tell from the second half that this is the version from the opening credits, and that just brings to mind the opening scene of Magitek armor trudging across snow-covered plains, unknowingly bringing Terra ever closer to finally starting to put everything right- only fitting because all of this started with Geshtal discovering Terra after the last clash with the Espers and realizing humans and Espers are not only alike enough that they can interbreed, but that humans are capable of inheriting Esper power, thus resulting in the creation of Kefka and Celes as Magitek Knights. The first half of your arrangement brings to mind the fact that you know the girl in the Magitek armor is something special, and the swells at the end bring an aura of uncertainty- one that just lets you know that this is where it's all going to start happening. The snare drums, unchanging in their beat, bring to mind the steps of the armor, pushing ever onward in the same steady beat. The flute that leads the melody reminds me of Terra in her then current state- chained by the Slave Crown, the flute forced to guide the melody, with... something else, maybe a low woodwind or brass simply in the background, hiding behind the flute, yet still present- much like how the two schmucks escorting Terra hide behind her as they push through Narshe towards the mines... I have to ask, though- no Searching For Friends? I mean, I know there's already like nine thousand different remixes of it out there, but I imagine it has to be somewhere on your list. :) I wouldn't mind hearing you take a crack at it or at Serpent Trench.
@RebeccaETripp9 жыл бұрын
Rain Feather What you said about Locke, Celes and Rachel was truly poetic. You have a way with words! I'm really pleased that this medley inspired you to deliberate on so much of this introspection. Let's face it- introspection is half the reason you and I like Final Fantasy- especially the older ones! Let me ask a question. Have you seen my "Final Fantasy: The Psychology and Philosophy" series yet? You may get more out of it than most :) I agree with you that Squeenix wrote some great female characters- especially when it was just Squaresoft, and especially for its time, when many female characters were still dramatically underdeveloped. For super nintendo characters, Terra, Celes, Rosa and Rydia sure invoke a hell of a lot of pathos! Heck, even Krile, Lenna and Farris had some really amazing moments. Actually, I want to say that, in general, Final Fantasy seems to be a series that really makes both female and male players feel included and understood. I will always value that! Searching For Friends, The Day After, The Returners, World of Ruin, Mt. Koltz, Phantom Forest, Relm's Theme, Gau's Theme, Kids Run Through the City Square, Serpent Trench and everything else I ignored in this medley are 100% going into another FF6 medley that will be as long and lovingly, painstakingly put together as this one. I've had that planned for a year, so worry not! :D Additionally, I also have a remix of Searching for Friends and You're Not Alone from FF9 as a short medley on my channel. Thank you so much for all your comments! They're lovely to read while I have my tea. ^_^

Julian Del Gobbo what I find kind of- ironic? Maybe funny- is that FF VII had such a huge marketing campaign on being “The First Game Like a Movie!” Where as I find VI is way more like a movie than VII ever was, actually from how it’s structured and how long it is I would say it’s akin to an epic novel series or maybe a mini series, and I also mean no disrespect for VII since it’s one of my favorites in the series but I kind understand the thought behind the advertising for VII since that game has GRAFIX!

This was, is, and ever shall be my favorite game of all time. While FFIV is always competing for the top place in my heart and sometimes manages to wrest control, FFVI usually has the edge. The music is always why. IV had amazing music, but the leitmotifs that reoccur through the various tracks which remain completely original in content and feeling all of their own make this game's story come to life. You FEEL what each and every character, locale, battle, and event would be to experience through this game's music. As for this track itself: Once again I'm sitting in awe of what you've done. You've preserved the splendor of the original tracks while spicing things up in a way that doesn't overpower them. You are a true artist. Your control of tempo and dynamics are incredible. I especially love what you did between Kefka's theme and the Veldt.. was this inspired by Noppz's Kefka Goes West or was it just by chance? There aren't really two many comparisons I can make to what effect listening to this had on me. I want to say it was like watching a master painter paint, only with my ears rather than my eyes. However, I don't think that quite conveys the experience. I'm a big weather geek and I love thunderstorms. I live close to the Great Lakes so I've been able to catch some beauties over the years. You don't just watch certain storms - you experience them. You hear them, you feel them, you even *smell* them. That's what this is like. I go from hearing and feeling the distant thunder in anticipation to being blown away by the impressive gust front. I'm dazzled by the lightning as the storm approaches. Then comes the core, where I am drenched in the full power of nature. Things calm for a few minutes, but then I'm awestruck by the appearance of a tornado. And while such a terrible phenomenon can bring devastation if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, I'm lucky enough to witness it from a distance, and the experience is indescribably amazing. Then the sun comes out again, and I'm left with calm, cool, glistening water, and a sky canvased with some of the most breathtakingly beautiful colors and cloud formations. One of the most serene, glorious scenes imaginable - what I'd imagine heaven looks and feels like. That's what I get from this. Understand - you have helped make this happen. Mr. Uematsu, of course, has gifted the world with this beautiful music, but you have brought it to life in such a way that is completely unique and so, so wonderful. I've listened to hundreds if not thousands of renditions of Final Fantasy VI music. This is probably the single most beautiful collection I've ever heard. I find myself thanking you a lot over the last few comments I made, but I'm compelled to do so again. You don't need to hear it from me to know that you're gifted, and I hope that you won't find my long winded gushing out of place or too heavy, but I don't compliment people on this sort of thing very often. Perhaps I should; perhaps I'm far too nit-picky. Perhaps your styles are just too much like my tastes. But that's the thing - I don't get that very often. It's strange and wonderful. Thank you.

+Wiggymaster You'll be glad to know that another FF6 medley like this one containing the rest of the songs will be made. ;) The feel of FF6 is just incomparable. To be honest, the memory of playing that game for the first time haunts me. There was no aesthetic quite like it. I'm so pleased that somebody noticed the Kefka/Veldt mashup! :D I've never heard of Kefka goes West, though. ^_^ I just noticed that the tracks fit together well. The things you said about this medley were beautiful and heart warming. Your weather analogies definitely reached my heart. I'm always making similar analogies, myself, trying in vain to explain the un-explainable... the power of music- the sheer ecstasy of art! Every time I read a comment from someone who is as love with FF6 as I am, it's very satisfying. I know in my heart that the music is mainly the reason it affected us the way it did. Thank you for that.

Out of all if the medley's I've ever heard, I think that this one is the best. You correctly captured the emotional content and transitions with each motif. 👍 Your instrument substitutions were superb. ... I realise that all composers would want to tweak their work here-and-there: but honestly there really isn't much to improve. I hope that a real orchestra one day can play exactly what you've done here. I would pay a lot of money to hear that. Bravo Mrs. Tripp. 👏👏 Please continue your work and thank you for this wonderful compilation. A masterpiece musical for a masterpiece game. 🙇👏

Most thorough indeed, all of the pieces meld right into one another without any jarring change and the renditions are simply emotional. I almost teared up with your rendition of Forever Rachel and how it flowed into Locke's Theme which still held a bit of a somber tone to it due to what was playing before (instead of jumping into the adventurous, devil-may-care attitude of the original) was very well played. All in all a beautiful mix, I loved how you mixed Terra's Theme with the opening "To Narshe" theme with that dark undertone that is presently unique for only that scene as all future rendition of Terra's Theme is lacking that foreboding feel past the opening, so that you included that in your Overworld Theme was a wonderful idea.

This is my first time commenting on one of your videos, so I'll start by saying that I love all your work on Final Fantasy. I read that you are going to make another medley for FF 6 (And one for 12, really excited about that one) and I was wondering if you could include Cyan's Theme in it. I like that piece very much but never found a remix that felt good to me, but after listening to your FF list every day, I'm confident that you could make a great track out of it.

^_^ Thank you! And, yes, Cyan's Theme is going to be in it. I'm also planning a standalone arrangement of his theme.

Ah, yes. I've heard it! I actually am planning on doing another FF6 medley. I also do have quite a few other FF6 covers, including the forest theme, town theme, esper world, Terra's theme, Awakening, Celes's theme, the wedding waltz and all the battle songs (including Grand Finale.) ;) Here's a link, if you're interested: kzbin.info/aero/PLhsnNwoLVWWNtPFBGAZo3iuT2wKX_tkH3

RebeccaETripp You did Grand Finale!? That's the opera showdown with Ultros, right? I couldn't find it in the playlist for some odd reason... unless it was buried between songs and I missed it. Grand Finale was always one of my favs, it's a shame it only played once in the entire game. Good luck, hope everything turns out great!

Bravo. I've been anticipating this work for a while, as I've arranged to listen to your works from earliest to most recent, and have been slowly working my way through when I get the chance... Thematically and with concern to plot and the use of audio and visual elements to tell a story, FF6 has no equal, even today. (Chrono Trigger and LoZ: Twilight Princess are the only titles that come close, IMHO.) Even if you didn't gush as you did in your post, it was plainly obvious that you feel similarly and were more careful than usual to do justice to it. It seems to me that you consciously began with the more arcane and otherworldly tracks then shifted to more obviously Western classical inspired tunes, soon to skew to the more ornate and baroque melodies, and ending with quasi-romantic triumphant pieces. If so, it seems as though you took us on a journey from the frightening yet exciting sense of the unknown the game so powerfully conveys to the classical proficiency the game almost seems to brag about and finally to the sense of passion and love that ultimately win the day. Am I in the ballpark? Now that you mention Esper World, I wonder why it wasn't included near the beginning as it's hard to think of something more arcane and otherworldly. Perhaps between New Continent and Devil's Lab...? But the track I miss the most is Cyan's theme, which you kind of allude to before Setzer's, as you wisely chose to predominate Setzer's theme with the Ending character medley version, enabling you to somewhat mimic the best and most triumphant (IMHO) musical transition in the OST, that between Setzer's and the Figaro Bros.'s themes in that same character medley. The only other complaint I have is that the crescendos for which you so masterfully built excitement didn't climax with more powerful instruments but then again, I could see why you might choose a softer landing in pursuit of the ethereal quality you sometimes seemed to seek, especially in the beginning. Finally, the instrument tuning mimicry you use at the very start is so ingeniously appropriate: it sets the stage for the beginning and middle thematic elements to which I just referred as well as impart to us the promise that you hold FF6 in the uniquely sacred and esteemed way so many of us do. Almost like a prayer leader, you are a voice for the passions of the legion of us nostalgic geeks, Rebecca, and we are forever grateful. :`-D

It's called Figaro no Kekkon: Tales from Desert. It's not really a manga but is a 40 page doujinshi with mostly text. It explains the backstory of Edgar, Sabin and Figaro. If you want more info, click this link finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Figaro_no_Kekkon:_Tales_from_Desert It's the wiki page. Don't get too excited as it's super rare but you can find most of the backstory online
