xenogears story hit me like a truck as a kid and it's the reason im a huge fan of xenosaga and xenoblade, but the game wasn't finished. Having played both games Chrono cross didn't have the same impact for me. That said, both games are masterpiece.

Man, I was reading the Secret Gospels by the time I was playing Xenogears, and there were nights I couldn't sleep because too many things made sense. EVA and its "biblic" references do not reach one inch in comparison.

its HARD to memorize Cross' plot because it is such a convoluted mess. Fate, the Dragon God, the Time Devourer, Schala, Balthasar, Wazuki, Kid, the Masamune, the Porre military, the time split caused by Serge's survival... way too much shit going on at once, way too many pieces on the board, all of it crammed together. It almost makes Kingdom Hearts 3 seem coherent in comparison.

I love them both but Chrono Cross hit me much harder, that beautiful journey in those places with so many colors, one of those games that leave you with a feeling of sadness and emptiness when you finish them. And that soundtrack, god! My favourite game ever!

You can run a psx emu on almost any android. Use your game to make an iso and then play it on a phone.

Been a long time since I played either but I'd lean towards Chrono Cross. Better combat, visible encounters, an auto-heal feature, and its' disc 2 is *mostly* complete. On review, Xenogears' combat and gameplay feels like it was forcibly tacked onto an awesome anime mech series. Maybe it should have just been that.

For XenoGears, I hate the sewer dungeon as it is so easy to get lost and then the battles interrupt your train of thought. I wish there were a map overlay system.

When I replay it, I will just use cheats and enjoy the story and atmosphere I can't even believe I was able to actually beat it, those random battles, trying to jump to the other place and falling, more random battles, loosing fuel and etc 😅

I haven't played Xenogears. I played Chrono Cross and got near the end but got stuck in the mansion and there was no way out so one day i need to restart it. I'm loving Harvestella now

Try Xenogears with the Perfect Build Mod and HD textures. It’s almost like a remaster and well worth it. I played both games at the same time (first games I saved and bought when I was 17). Chrono Cross just didn’t resonate the same. Great graphics and music and decent story. Xenogears I’ve played 8 times since over the years

Xenogears is the most impactfull gaming experience in my life. Yes, big flaws, but for me it was the perfect game at that time of my life. Liked it more than FF 7. Chrono Cross I couldn't get into at the time and haven't tried again. Xenogears has the best battle system in jrpgs

Interesting matchup. I have very fond memories with both these jrpgs, Chrono Cross being one of my first PS1 games, and Xenogears being THE game that introduced my young mind to so many deep and mature themes. Personally when I compare games I always keep it objective, and to me, Xenogears is easily the winner here. I loved Chrono Cross. I remember fondly the day I played it for the first time and was amazed by everything, from story to visuals. Hell, I actually replayed it more times than I did Xenogears, and not even counting the times I watched my brother and ex girlfriend play through it. But still, Xenogears was just in it's own tier. Even as a kid I knew that I was playing something special, that felt so much more than just a game. And today I can praise Xenogears even more because there's still nothing quite like it. At least in the jrpg category. The most important element of a RPG to me is it's story, and even though Chrono Cross story is up there as one of my favorites in jrpgs, there is no way it could ever beat the absolute peak that was Xenogears.

As someone who owned & beat both Chrono Cross & Xenogears back in the day, both games are amazing despite their flaws. Although, if I had to pick 1 factor that brings 1 out over the other. It would be the final boss & ending of the game. The Time Devourer was an interesting boss to wrap up a supercompressed endgame. And how you use the titular Chrono Cross to get the Good Ending was creative & cool. But honestly, didn't care much for the Good Ending. It's not that the ending was bad, just a letdown in my opinion. Xenogears on the other hand, the endgame absolutely made up for the corners they had to cut in disc 2. The final boss, Deus, & ending always bring a smile to my face. Plus Deus' difficulty can be adjusted by taking down the orbs circling it. I really wish more RPGs would have bosses that you can adjust the difficulty of by creative means like that, rather than usually just grinding up.

I love the lore of both games. Chrono Cross being connected to Chrono Trigger, and Xenogears Perfect Works. The only thing that I don't like about Chrono Cross is that it has the same issue I have with Suikoden and Radiata Stories, missable characters.

Oh Look, Those are the Games that Originally were Final Fantasy VII...but ended up to become legendary JRPG in their own way... Although depends if you Like Chrono Cross as A worthy Trigger sequel or just an Standalone game set in the same world as the Original Chrono.

I'm not sure about chrono cross but I know xenogears got the shaft from square pretty hard and was barely given a chance to even be made. Not being final fantasy killed it's budget and production time. Disk two is proof of that.

i'm probably a minority here, but i play games for gameplay, not for stories - and that's why i'd pick chrono cross over xenogears any day. 'cause for all its flaws, chrono cross is fun to play, while xenogears feels incredibly annoying with its random battles, jumps, camera, 3d environments - tbh, it's way worse than an average ps1 rpg. its story's interesting, yes, but even it is not without flaws and weird decisions - not to mention that at the end it devolves into saving the princess

Chrono Cross is visually, musically and thematically beautiful, even if the plot is a mess, the characters are shallow, and the combat is a joke once you equip Diminish and Imbecile elements. I appreciate more as an art piece than as a video game.

Never played xenogears. Played chrono cross plenty. It is different from most rpgs. You can trap elements, run, and trap again. I essentially stole free fall and black hole elements from the black element seal gua4dian in the dragon temple.least 10-20 of each.

I saved and bought Xenogears and Chrono Cross same time. Chrono Cross was good but just not for me. Try Xenogears Perfect Build Mod and HD Texture mod to play Xenogears. There’s so many great changes it’s almost a remaster. Fixes encounter rate, full re-translation, new items, deathblows have status effects, character and enemy rebalance, and much more

I love both games. Story and lore: Xenogears wins and it's not even close. XG is deep and complex, with incredible Characters: I like them both to about the same extent. Yes, Fei, Elly and Citan are great, but I disagree with the flak CC characters get. Gameplay: Chrono Cross wins by a long shot. I personally don't mind the XG gameplay, I would rate it a solid 6/10 but Chrono Cross plays like a modern-ish JRPG and is at least an 8/10. Music: Both soundtracks are in-cre-di-ble. They are both my number one favourite soundtrack in video games. Cannot pick a winner as which one is above depends on my mood. Artistic Direction: Chrono Cross wins. I wholeheartedly agree with you. Overall I prefer Xenogears, but CC is a great game too!

both games are very good but i think what hurts cross the most is the normal battle music. just a terrible soundtrack since you have to listen to it so often. love most other tracks in cross though including the boss music. but the normal battle music gets annoying, almost like the devs picked the worst track on purpose.
