Excellent review as always. I’ve got this one in the NKJV leathersoft and it’s a beautiful Bible visually. I thought your review was fair and I must say it took some time to get used to reading it - for example reading through Acts and then you’re in Galatians for example. But I really appreciate having it in my Bible library, as putting the books where they do, gives an added dimension to Bible study and helps put certain themes and thoughts in context. The only other thing I would say to those considering buying it, is that it is not hard to find your place. You don’t need to be flipping back to the index to see where certain texts are. It becomes easy from within the Bible so I would say it is suitable to take to church and to Bible Study groups. Definitely not one’s only Bible but great to have nonetheless. Thanks again. A good life hack is to put Bible tabs at the start of each book, even if one normally doesn't use Bible tabs.

I had to find out what you have to say about chronological Bibles. I found this video that you posted. Took a little while to find it, but I did find it. I have been using the csb day by day Chronological Bible for about 4 years. But it's time for me to change. I'm considering this NIV that you're recommending here. It is full of information. Another great vid James, BUT I noticed something that slips under the radar (as inconsequential) to those of us who know - BUT could cause consternation to those not familiar. When you discuss the two timelines option, and someone already struggling with confusion and questions stumbles on your review, an obvious conclusion could be that "well one of them is obviously false/wrong". If they believe that that is a fact then their assertion about some of the Bible (at least this part) is that it is false/wrong/has mistakes. I am not sure how but you might want to address that in a separate video and edit in a link at the 3:30 mark. You did similar when addressing the maps (offered a link). Thanx - oh, and BTW I am waiting with baited breath for a map that finally incorporates ALL of the unearthed knowledge and CLEARLY routes the Exodus through Newaiba to Jabal El Laws. It seems shameful that the map is not offered simply because they (publishers) would then be proven wrong with their original marches and are too proud to admit their mistakes. :-) Shalom

Great review, honest & open. I love Chronologicals, not a replacement for a standard Bible, but a great way to read the Bible through completely to help stitch it into a complete associated unit.

Your criticisms about chronological Bibles chopping up books is valid, but I do still love them and I have this one, and the Life Application Chronological Bible. They are both absolutely gorgeous as well. A great life hack is to buy Bible tabs (even if you normally don't like them), and put them on a chronological Bible at the first chapter of each book to aid with being able to just flip to things without consulting the index every single time. Another thing is to have them in software like Olive Tree so that when you want to consult the notes, the software does the work of finding the place for you. I have both. It's cool to know that Keener was a contributor. I think it important to read and study thru the epistles in chronological order (as best we can determine), but I agree that it would be best to not chop up books, so we are still waiting for the ideal "chronological study Bible" that does some rearranging the order of things without actually inserting one book inside another or reordering them internally. In the New Testament for example, in Acts one could put a header "Galatians written," in the probable place, with an approximate date, without inserting the letter Galatians there in the book of Acts, and still having all the epistles after Acts, just in a different order. This would both respect the purpose and flow of each book, while making it still easy to find each book. In the same way in the OT, there could be a note in Samuel or wherever "this Psalm probably written here" or "Joel's prophecy here" without chopping up Psalms or prophetic books and inserting them into historical books. The NIV Integrated study Bible is a cool resource if you want a hard copy Bible to parallel passages in columns for comparison, but most of us just use software for this now.

So much easier to read a chronological Bible than to flip around all the time trying to follow a chronological reading plan. As an extra Bible, this is a fantastic addition to my collection alongside the Life Application and recently purchased ESV study bible which I haven't started yet. Can't have too many Bibles 😂. Looks like an interesting resource, even rabbinical scholars have competing theories about order of events in the Torah. +1 for black letter +1 for having both the early date and late date of the Exodus -1 for double column -1 for missing the other route and the alternate (i.e. much more likely) Mount Sinai +1 the presentation of competing ideas allowing the reader to decide.

This Bible would be a much more useful resource as a digital source than physical, so you can see it in a separate window and would be much easier to flip between passages. It is a very interesting presentation for a Bible. I might add it to my resource collection in Olive Tree.

Superb review. You addressed HOW the original books were divided among the Epochs, which is very helpful in understanding how this book works. Many other reviews have not explained this. As you suggested, Used as a reference book and not as a primary bible, this could be immensely useful in understanding the times and storyline. For example, If the Prophets are spliced and assigned to the various Epochs it would clarify the fulfillment of their prophecies in the New Testament. Revelation in this manner could be more revealing. Thanks for a good review.

Such a helpful review, thank you. I am considering getting one. I am currently reading through the ESV Chronological (not study) Bible. I agree that it's very disjoined and jarring and not what I would prefer for daily reading. That said, it's exactly what I was looking for right now. I have read through the NT and am working through the OT. Once I am done, I will likely donate it.

I'm nearly done a 90-day chronological read and decided against getting a specific chronological study Bible. I spent a fair amount of time looking for a reading list that didn't get into the weeds with chopping up the chapters/books. I have found it interesting to read them in this possible order. My library app has this Bible available. I might get it just for those notes after I'm done with the 90-day read because I was having a heck of a time keeping all those gods in order.

The theological background of other mythologies is amazing. I hope we find them on some other study bible or in a website all organized for us to read. This bible is more of a Chronological bible reading plan, than a study bible.

Given your summation, wpuld you say the Blue Letter Bible one year chronological reading plan(or any chronological reading plan) is more recommended than this bible, especially for those not familiar with the basic biological timeline?

I agree totally that a chronological bible is hard to read. I got the life application chronological study Bible thinking it would be great, wrong. I believe the Bible was meant to read the way it was given to us. Remember the Bible is not a book it’s a library of 66 books written for us not to us. And I think a chronological bible gos against that and tries to make it into one book. Something I didn’t realize till after I tried to read one.

Would you say it's worth getting just for the notes not to use as a Bible? Well two fold, for the average Bible reader, and then people beyond the scope of the average lay person who are in/will be going to Seminary perhaps (cough cough).

I think the CBSB is a better choice for a primary study Bible. And it doesn't address theological issues such as Calvinism.

I agree, I don't like Chronological Bibles, I have the NKJV (and didn't realize it was a used version until after tryin to put on Bible tabs) and that's the thing, you can't tab these Bibles!!! Well you can you will have to buy write on tabs to write in where different books are jumping. I'm going to buy a new version of the one I have and do my best to tab it or I may just not tab it at all. Also want the KJV version.....

Is it a concern, in your opinion, that the study notes in this Bible talk about Palestine as an actual Country rather than just an area in Israel? I've been taught that there was never an actual Country of Palestine. The Romans (i think) called it Palestine after the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD.

Palestine is just an ancient name for the region. Only after the founding of Israel in 1948 did it become a politicized label. Palestine, the Levant, Israel, the Holy Land...in my opinion they are all interchangeable when discussing the region.

Okay. My first time on your channel. Enjoying the review because you're detailed and you show the actual Bible so I can follow along. (I just received this as a gift from a friend.) I have ONE question: Why would God's word, the Holy Bible, or the Scriptures, be destroyed with all this nonsense about "the gods". They are nothing but little statues. They are not Gods. Is this Bible AGAINST God's word or for it? I understand there is cultural information taken from human history as best as archaeologists and others can put it together. That's fine. But why write an article about how it was really these deaf, dumb, mute, frozen idols did what GOD so obviously did in scripture? Sad. Shooting what God says in the foot in their notes and panels. Thanks anyway, for the warning, though you seem excited about it. 😔 I guess I'm used to Christian channels that do Bible reviews.

Not sure what makes you think there's anything unchristian about understanding the beliefs that surrounded Israel and shaped how they thought about things. The NT authors regularly interacted with their pagan neighbors' beliefs. I encourage you to read Scripture more closely.

if you want the absolute truth from Scripture (versus traditional truths and doctrines) then you must never let your fears or misunderstandings deny what Scripture actually says. You pose a question that has been confusing to many for eons so the church usually just disregards what the Scriptures actually say. You may find the works of the late Dr. Micheal S. Heiser interesting as he addresses the "gods" of Scripture. He can be found on KZbin or by reading his books. Search for "The Unseen Realm".

Yes, but God wanted His chosen people to influence the neighbors to give up their false gods & beliefs & to see by example how much better the Israelites lived by believing only in the One True God - instead, Israel was adopting the worship of these foreign gods along with their worship of God & punished for it. So I guess, gaining an understanding of what the false worship was about to entice them away from God, may be of interest, to recognize how some of those things filtered to our present day throughout time & are now incorporated into modern traditions, that we are not even aware of their origins.

The books are out of their canonical order, but then again, Jewish readers would say that most Christian Bibles are out of canonical order already. 😉 The main reason I don't own the Chronological Study Bible is because it's only available in the NKJV and the NIV. A chronological Bible plays against the strengths of the NKJV, and I simply have never liked the NIV (though it is a better choice to be chopped up and rearranged than the NKJV is). I'm trying to think of a translation that would be suitable for this edition. I'd lean toward versions that aren't on the more literal side of the spectrum, but also aren't bordering on paraphrase. Thomas Nelson publishes editions of the NET Bible, so that might be a decent option.

This is one of the worst commentary ever. I bought it and God literally told me to paint over the commentary of this bible in the dream. The writer believes in evolution or big bang theory, i assume because the writer made a point to create the Timeline that exceed 6000 years with 8000BC in some of the presentation.
