It is a strange irony that Christians strive to study the Bible diligently, but miss the part where Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for studying the Bible diligently.
@dylancaldwell83378 ай бұрын
It wasn’t the studying of the Bible that he rebuked. It was the harshness of the Rabbis on people who didn’t follow the law perfectly. They did pretty bad things to people in the name of God, and that is what Jesus rebuked.
@VikingMan448 ай бұрын
@@dylancaldwell8337 Thank you for proving the irony. He did rebuke their harshness. You are right about that. But he also rebuked them for their diligent study of the scriptures. After all, that's where their harshness came from. And it was their diligent study that prevented them from hearing the father's voice and knowing that Christ was who he said he was. That's what John chapter 5 means. John 5:37-40 "And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life." Nor does his word dwell in you... Jesus said that to the guys who had the first 5 books of the Torah memorized by the time they had hair on their balls. And who went on to train as specialists in the meaning of those writings. Fishermen and drunks and prostitutes and tax collectors could hear the voice of the Father tell them that Jesus was the Christ, but not those who loved scripture. That's a highly inconvenient truth for Christians. Don't you think? You should... study the Bible more diligently. Then you would know it better and know that God actually hates the diligent study of the words of dead men. The Bible is a beautiful and poetic book. Perhaps the most significant book ever written by the hands of man. And it also happens to be a graven image of the Logos. Believing it is God's word to you and studying it diligently ensures only that for you, the Logos remains silent. You can either regard the living word as God's word, or you can regard the ancient writings of dead men as God's word. You cannot do both for you cannot serve 2 masters.

I actually found it! I mean I found on the maps evidence of high ground from one side to the other. And each shore side pointed out a little at the line. I was like, “oh my gosh, there is the evidence right there!” And also thought they probably remove this because it shows the evidence. I had an early iPhone at the time and wish I would have taken a picture, screen shot. Years went by and the next time I couldn’t find it again. Anything can cause confusion. That's what study is for. Not giving people various legitimate options is, IMO, irresponsible teaching.
@Gutslinger4 ай бұрын
@@DiscipleDojo I can understand that, and would actually agree. But I'm just thinking about the vast amount of interpretations and materials one would have to study for so many parts in the Bible. Most people have a hard enough time even reading the Bible, themselves. Much less devoting much of their life reading and studying all of the possible interpretations on top of that. I could imagine many people could get overwhelmed by information overload, and just not know how they should interpret many of those scriptures when they're faced with multiple interpretations. Should people even confidently choose one at all, where multiple are possible or viable? But, salvation isn't hinged upon one's knowledge or opinions on most of these possible interpretations, as long as you believe in the Trinity and that Jesus was sacrificed for our sins and is risen.

Why would they limit the printing of this???????? Bible only for the few? What's going on??

@@triskaideka13 it didn't sell enough copies when it first came out. That's why I found about a dozen of them in a used bookstore (and they were promptly scooped up by people after this video went viral!).

Cor 14 does NOT forbid women from speaking in "all places everywhere", but only in the Church assembly. The view that refutes this command by pointing to the other instances of speaking women in teaching, evangelism ignores this fact. Also, always also show the Romans 2:12-16 passage notes for comparison, as that also is a big issue where commentators or study bibles would fall off, since the passage states righteous gentiles go to heaven, without religion, like the good samaritan.

I see this title is available digital through olive tree. Does anyone know if this is good in the digital format?

I have considered this study Bible before but the one thing that restrains me is that the overseeing editor, Gary Burge, is a supercessionist and I would like to know if that is reflected in the study notes, especially in Romans.
@DiscipleDojo9 ай бұрын
Supercessionism is a slippery term (some people use it to denote anyone who is not a Christian Zionist, for instance), so I would want to know what specifically you mean when you use it. Burge and Richard Harvey were on a panel at SBL last month discussing that very topic and I would not consider Burge a supercessionist, but Harvey would. So it depends on what one means by it. As for Romans, I specifically talk about that in the video.

@@DiscipleDojo thank you for your reply. Listening to Burge speak on the modern state of Israel, it is clear that he sees no spiritual or prophetic significance in it's formation. Whilst that is not my view, I have many Christian friends who I would consider to be brothers (they all seem to be men for some reason) who would share Burge's view. My comment is concerning balance. Whilst it is fair that Burge should have the freedom to hold his position, I'm just wondering how even handed the notes are. Yes, you did mention that on Romans 11, several positions are presented and the ramifications of each is challenged. I recently heard Burge respond to a question where he was asked to steel man his opponents' position and it seemed incomplete and somewhat inadequate, in my opinion. My concern with the study Bible is whether there is an underlying bias. Hats off, if there isn't but Burge's strong views don't instill much confidence.

@@tony.biondi to be clear, he is only one of the editors. But if one is specifically looking for a Dispensational or Christian Zionist perspective, they will probably be disappointed with the notes in this study Bible.
@tony.biondi9 ай бұрын
@@DiscipleDojothank you. I'm neither Dispensational nor Christian Zionist (although it saddens me that the latter term turns Zion into a dirty word). I do believe in God's continued plans and purposes for both the people and the land of Israel, just not according to the two schemas you named. Nevertheless, I think I would give this study Bible a miss.

It may have some big names and great illustrations but the price for one used is $450 and that's for acceptable condition, and I thought these guys knew the Bible... meaning I see there's a globe Earth on one of the pages so to me that's a real big red flag, What I've read was that the Bible says that the Earth was not a globe.😯😊
