I know this video is pretty old I dont know if you still have the car or not but if you take off the engine cover (just pull up) and look at the back left of the vehicles motor you will see a chincy ass speaker wire like ground going from the engine mount to the chassis. This is your engine block ground your alternator and everything on that engine block is grounded through that wire and electricity needs to travel through this at whatever your alternator is pulling (160 amp at 100%) which is equivalent to a pickup truck alternator with a v8 in it. This car in specific it is very reccomended to replace all the charging wires with thicker gauge ofc, alot of people dont know this but thats the main reason these cars have electrical problems. I had to find this little ground wire myself but after further inspection the wire was frayed so much and got so hot that the metal connection the wire was crimped onto melted and snapped! It is actually a ground strap, more than anything i cant stress enough replace this wire with anything that has less resistance. I saw a couple comments saying that what you did in this video worked and im not disputing that but you look at the stock ground wires from the “battery” you wouldnt think too much off it yeah there small but it is enough to supply what the car needs, but all that electricity needs to circle back around through all your wires specifically your ground. Your chassis on this car acts as a wire and as it being a unibody car it has very many cheap spot welds that can definitley hinder the resistence of alot of ground spots. Im just saying if this little belt was replaced with something that was at least as thick as the stock battery ground you probably wouldn’t have too many more electrical problems because the electricity can flow consistently through the whole car without any voltage performance issues, these cars dont like it when the voltage is off just a smidge everything is electrical dependent hence there being such a big alternator.
@Suckmyring4 жыл бұрын
Dont quote me on this either but there is another wire running off this wire going to the bottom of the car, could very well be the ground for the starter im just saying no crank no start sounds like it could be a starter after diagnosing electrical problems if this problem still arises for you or anyone that sees this comment check this ground strap seriously they tend to fray with heat because there small braided pieces of shits.

Rather than add another ground wire to my 2011 convertible 200 with v6 engine, I simply took the ground cables off at their junction point up on the driver strut tower/firewall under the hood. The cable from the battery and the cable to the motor ground are joined here at a point where you can connect jumper cables. There was some corrosion but I cleaned both cable ends, the threaded stud they connect to, and the nuts that hold them together all with a wire brush and some contact cleaner. I did not like that the first nut to hold the engine ground cable in place had a flat on the one side but a taper/bevel on the other side where it would engage the cable end for the battery wire. I did not feel there was enough surface area there to get a good connection even with torqueing down the second "jumper" cable nut so I put the nut in my vice with the bevel side up and took a file to it to flatten in out and give some mating surface for the battery cable end and torque of the "jumper" nut that is lastly attached. Before reassembling everything I coated all mating parts with dielectric grease which transmits current and inhibits corrosion then assembled and torqued everything tight. I also did this same exercise with the positive connections near the same firewall location. This has totally solved my intermittent no start problems without having to add another ground. I had replaced the battery about a year prior and had carefully cleaned all the connections at that end including the application of dielectric grease and sufficient connection torque so I knew I had no problems there although in addition to what I just did up top to the connectors it should be duplicated at the battery if this has never been done. Prior to all of this, about 3 years ago my alternator gave out and the result that while on the freeway everything electrical went crazy as the battery was just about drained completely - dash lights flashing, engine revving, and then finally stalling out. The tow guy and dealer agreed that all this craziness was what happens to these Chryslers when the battery gets super low so if you have this issue then check your battery for remaining life (load test, specific gravity check, voltage check) and it is most likely the battery or if battery is new then most likely the alternator. But, as seen in the KZbin video and comments from others the most likely reason for this intermittent start is a poor ground and/or poor positive connection in the battery/ground cable circuit. I really believe that in addition to corrosion (which in my case did not appear to be that bad) the culprit for all these Chrysler no start issues most likely is that beveled nut combined with corrosion and poor torque at the jumper cable connector point. Even a plain double flat sided nut would be better than the beveled nut. Cleaning up and fixing this transfer connection joint that is put there so you can jump start when your battery is buried out of site is a first stage and easier fix than adding another ground cable though the latter is obviously very effective as it creates a direct ground without the connection point at the jump start connection location. Chrysler should replace the bevel style of nut used to secure the ground wires at the firewall with a flat on both sided nut! I am a mechanical engineer with over 38 years working for automotive companies and a life long do-it-yourselfer as far as auto repairs go so I do know a few things - particularly about mechanical issues and design.

I agree with this comment. I have a 2013 Chrysler 200 3.6L with about 83k miles. It has had stalling issues which I suspect may still be due to the transmission fluid leak. However, I noticed that it wouldn’t start properly a few days ago (hesitation, slow cranking). So I changed the battery (which is a pain already because you have to remove the tire). Then, after driving it for a couple of days, the car shut off on me while I was driving. Luckily it started back up afterward and made it the short drive home. After that, I noticed that when I’d start it up, everything was pulsating - the engine, lights (flickering), and vents (so I did not drive it). We decided to replace the alternator, but even after we did, the multimeter still showed that the battery had less than 12V and fluctuated. I read something after Googling for hours to check the ground terminal. Here’s what I learned: First check to see if there is a grounding issue. The article said to use the multimeter to check the ohms (by using the multimeter on the ground terminal and metal part of engine and then the ground and part of the alternator). The Ohms wouldn’t stay at 0 so we concluded there was a grounding issue. After googling everything I could, I found some comment by a person saying to add another ground. Before doing that though, my husband cleaned the corrosion on the ground as stated in this comment. However, he noticed that the ground wasn’t really touching the way it should (he said whatever it was touching had paint on it so it must’ve been a manufacturing flaw, but he also knew there wasn’t enough of a connection). So, he added two or three copper washers to the grounding terminal. Afterwards, the multimeter finally showed a steady voltage over 12V. I drove it a short distance (to return the alternator core) without any problems. I do believe (and hope) this was the issue. After a new battery and alternator, it turns out the major issue may just have been the ground terminal. I’ll update this if it happens to stall or shut off again.

The fuse would not have anything to do with the starter. If you can get an ODB reader that might help with any error codes.
