Today I am removing a cylinder head from a 2014 Dodge Avenger with a 2.4L engine. I diagnosed the concern of overheating on this vehicle in a previous video. A remanufactured cylinder head will be installed on this vehicle in the next couple of weeks. Look out for the follow up video in the near future. Thanks For Watching!!!

From one content creator to another, great video. Could not find a video of a simple tear down. I’m doing this job today for a client. Thanks.

Great video. Ive had to do head gasket replacement on at least 7 vehicles for me, friends, and family and the overhead cam ones are always a little more tense.

Older neighbor has a '13 Chrysler 200 with same motor w/ blown HG. Hopefully no warped head as the car's been drinking coolant (topped off every time it leaves home) for awhile & is at the point where can't really go 70 miles (round trip) before temp becomes an issue on the return. This is his only reliable transportation. Can't afford a shop on his small SS income so I've been doing any auto work he's needed & it's trying to set up a time to do it when not going anywhere for a few days. Looking into the engine bay of newer vehicles always feels like a spontaneous headache waiting to happen. Already had a fair idea of what is entailed so will be using this video as a guide on tear down as well as seeing what other gaskets//parts need to be ordered.

What's a good downloadable step by step on this? I've done 2 head gasket replacements but never on a overhead cam vehicle. I got a Chilton which is good but not as in depth as I would like. There's a lot of sites claiming to sell a guide to do it but I have a little trust issues. Any help on where to go would be appreciated.

I have a big air compressor is that the best way to get the crank shaft pulley off? There is no way to lock it it just spins the timing chain when I try to take the 7/8 bolt off

Is there a chance one that leaks oil but ran fine can go back together with just new head gasket?

I'm unsure what's up with the #3 cylinder. A bad design of something but every issue I've seen with head gasket has to do with that cylinder. I haven't tore completely into mine yet but it was that cylinder that the coolant was dumping into. I got a used motor and sure shit all the valves look shiny but #3 look like there something going on. I'm all ears here from the pros out there. Great video!!

Looks damn near identical to the 2014 jeep patriot sport. I’m also surprised you didn’t do a 90 degree release on the first go around of the cylinder head bolts and then an 180 degree for the second go around. Instead you just completely Loosened one bolt at time in reverse order. I’m scared of snapping a bolt lol.

All the bolts were cracked loose first then removed with electric rachet. No problem. Thanks for watching!!

Some of those HBs definitely seemed concerning. Had a freebie mid 80s VW 1.6 IDI diesel on a stand that was pulling the head for a re-ring. Had to use 3ft of cheat on the average 1/2" breaker bar while also trying to brace the stand from moving to get the same bolts loose. Whoever was the last one to work on the thing was at least as strong as myself. Felt like I was going to shear bolts in half.

That's pretty typical. They really put the stretch to them, that's for sure!!

When doing a head gasket is the timing chain savable can I reuse it or replace it.? guess it depends on the condition, right.?
@paycheckmonster
@paycheckmonster 7 ай бұрын
Yes it does depend on mileage, oil change history and a visual inspection. “Typically” these chains don’t have much of a problem. Too much over 100,000 miles, I would consider it. Thanks for watching!!

I think they stopped making the Sebring in about 2010 I think. I know the cylinder head is different but I do think the block is the same in those last years. You would have to do some research but I think these are very similar. Thanks for watching!!
