Thanks David. Awesome Video. I've already done the trans filter and fluid change. Will never let that service lapse. I do it every 2 years although I only have 13000 miles on my 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan. Today I noticed a small leak coming from that black side cover.

Thank you so much for this video, I got my old one out. Gonna go pick up the new one in the morning, I didn’t break the white clip, and those 3 tubes slid right out, ...maybe because my engine was still warm so everything was pliable, hopefully putting it back in goes as smoothly as taking it out. ...one difference on mine is the full tube extends into the trans about 6” which made getting it out a pain in the ass, I removed the battery, battery tray, and coolant overflow bottle. The huge bundle of wires I bungee corded up to the hood hinge to keep them out of my way

The dealer ship $5,000 to fix one times that by 3 that's $15,000 you saved us from having to make some hard decisions we was probably going to have to lay somebody off. Thank you so much sir I was able to fix I one of them for about four hundred bucks.

Thanks for making the video. It helped me understand what I needed for the job. Swapped out the pack because I got a P0755 code and found that the 2-4 solenoid was not producing the proper inductive kick with my scope and noticed sometimes I didn't see the opening hump. No problems now after replacement. Thanks

This is an awesome video! I have a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country currently in the shop, waiting for a solenoid pack replacement from the transmission manufacturer. Crossing my fingers that it fixes the issues. I already had the transmission rebuilt, put just under 5K miles on the new transmission, and then got a P0765 code for the Solenoid D underdrive solenoid. I am praying that this fixes the issue. Again, you did a GREAT job on this video!

Thank you for the very detailed video. Question to the connector at the solenoid, which you said the tab breaks off often. Cant you remove the solenoid to allow more room or is this not recommended and doesnt help anyways? I assume no, otherwise you would have done it, but just checking. Btw, I "just" replaced the filter in the lower pan and replaced the oil. Now 4k miles later it is shifting hard which seem to be the solenoid pack. The car has over 100k, would you recommend replacing the oil and filter again with only 4k basically on it? Thank you

My 3 promasters are currently at 590000, 580000, and 300000 miles each. Over all that time, I’ve only had to do a solenoid pack once. Very happy about that. I will add: you can do this job in a couple of hours without taking the trans out. Dorman sells a reman pack, which I think is fine. Summit Racing has it cheaper than anybody for reason. I think I paid $109. To my way of thinking, ANY trans code or problem that isnt specifically the converter, or specifically a fluid problem, it’s probably justified to attempt to fix it with a new pack. The shift logic is entirely in the ecu so you dont need to worry about that (engine runs means computer works means trans logic works), and most of that the trans does lives in the pack. It’s the rare case where throwing a part at it makes sense, since the part is cheap and easy and all encompassing.

how do you know of you need a new solenoid pack vs. torque converter?
@kipamore
@kipamore Жыл бұрын
@@normalizeself-love4469 Sorry, missed this. The pack will generally code differently than a failed converter. Also, a bad pack will generally put itself in limp mode which is 2nd gear and reverse only. But in limp, the converter will work just fine, just like normal. That would tell you if your problem is the pack or the converter.

Great camera angles help make this vid so instructive. I've watched it twice, being the occasionally nervous owner of a 2012 62TE transmission. So far, I don't need it. My thought is that if you truly didn't want to deal with the connector that likes to break, just cut the two wires and self solder them back together.

Bought a 2014 Town & Country a month ago with 157K miles it ran perfect. Just over 160K now and had to replace upper radiator hose and clamps from small leak and now taking off it's sluggish and sometimes shifts hard from 1st to second then immediately to third then runs fine. Engine in great shape it feels like solenoids going bad but no engine light or fault codes yet. Any other checks first or should I just swap a new solenoid pack in before it gets worse?

Hi David. Bought a used 2012 T & C Touring L 3.6L. 143km. Started limping below 40 mph and revs to 4 or 5. When I restart the car it drives normally for 40 miles or more in this hot season and in cold season up to 150 to 300 miles until is limps again. Receive several codes in order during the course of the year from a Solenoid D and later Solenoid B (? code) and recently P0765 code. Is the cheapest and safest thing you think I should do is a Transmission Fluid and Filter change service to stop these limp modes or should I never do a that service? and should I also do a Solenoid Pack replacement too? NOTE: Wish you would have done this video on a car without the Transmission removed. This method would have been the way I would have liked to learn how to do it step by step on my own car. I am sure that you would have shown us more steps before getting to the valve cover. I just wouldn't be able to pull out the entire transmission to do this job although I might need to do this service because of the issues my car has.

I have a 2016 Grand Caravan. It has this transmission in it and is shifting hard like explained in this video and others I have watched. This is by far the best video explaining this transmission and how to replace the solenoid pack. I have a question. Do you figure the dealership Service Tech guys would know about this problem? I just took it in and they say it was a bit low on fluid, because thats what the computer told them. So they said the lower pan was leaking and needed to be dropped to reseal it, while it was down they decided to go ahead and put in a new filter even though its not required yet, just a good idea to put it in while they're there. I gave them the go ahead as its close enough to the KLMs required to replace it so why not. So I got a new trans filter and lower pan resealed. They performed the QuickLearn, the tech signed off on it being fixed and saying it shifts smooth now, on paper. Its not, its still shifting hard and the Tech guy even say so himself on dash camera as he's pulling it out of the shop that " it still shifts hard!" So Im wondering if the tech guys at the dealership would be wise to this issue? Again, great video about this topic, best Ive found online yet. Might end up giving the link to the tech guys at the dealership so they know whats up and how to do it step by step. If I had the tools and space I would do this myself, thats how well this video is, leaves one very confident that they can tackle the task themselves. I've been to mechanic school and bodywork school 20 years ago. Was in the industry for a few years after graduation from both courses, before the tools started bending my fingers and doing damage to my hands. Turns out I have Ankylosing Spondylitis. No fun. Any ways. Do you think the shop monkeys are wise or???

I have a 2016 Grand Caravan with 85k miles. Yesterday I was driving and heard a whining sound. I was in a bad area at the time so I jumped on the highway, drove about 10 miles, and when I exited the highway, after coming to a stop, the van wouldn't go. It wasn't catching gears for a few seconds then finally caught gears enough to get it to the side of the road [no lights on dash]. I called a couple people, and decided to take a chance to go another 15 miles home. The ENTIRE TIME it would only go up to 2nd gear and sometimes wouldn't even do that. I finally got it home. There are still no warning lights on. I checked the trans fluid level with my scored oil dipstick [I learned to do this from other YT mechanics], and it read way too high. The fluid itself did not smell burnt and looked ok. I siphoned about 1.5 qt out to get it right at the top of the hot line. It's still having the same issue. Still no warning lights. This is our only vehicle. Advice would be MOST APPRECIATED. Thank you in advance! Update: I disconnected the battery for a while and reconnected it. From what I read, that exited "limp mode." The van started to go then I heard the whining sound again, and the same thing happened [STILL NO WARNING LIGHTS ON]. I don't know how to diagnose it. Update 2: After disconnecting the battery again, I finally got the van to throw code P083B

Really enjoyed learning here David, but my question is, how possible is this for someone to do all this, with the transmission still in the van, and on a drive way?
