You are doing a really great job, audio and video! I wonder, is all that extra cleaning mostly cosmetic or does it give better performance? Seems like if you just get the big stuff, because once you put a few miles on it then will become dirty again anyway ?
@DavidJWarEagle
@DavidJWarEagle 6 жыл бұрын
henryssurfshowcase I would say it’s cosmetic because, like you said, it’s going to get dirty again in time. To keep it clean, I would have to disable the EGR system and add a catch can to the PCV system. Thanks for the support! 👍

Just a suggestion, if you pour with the spout on the top instead of the bottom the air would be able to escape easily as you are pouring. They should make a manifold for the PVC and EGR that goes in between the intake and the heads. It would allow the intake to stay cleaner and allow for a better air flow.
@DavidJWarEagle
@DavidJWarEagle 6 жыл бұрын
MostlymoparIH That makes perfect sense. I’ll try that next time. I’ve read people go on and on about using a catch can but I don’t see the point unless you disable the EGR also. I think the oil from the PCV system might actually help dissolve the EGR crud. That stuff was like sticky tar right around the EGR port. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Good idea to clean intake internal. Yet, I think the intake is made to trap some unwanted partials that you most likely don't want in your engine. It does this by trapping the unwanted partials in the oil that's normally on the internal surface of the intake. Love the video.
@DavidJWarEagle
@DavidJWarEagle 3 жыл бұрын
I think so too. I know many folks use catch cans to catch the oil vapors but then the EGR is dumping in there with no oil. So, who knows what effect that has. Thanks for the comment!
@andrewhigdon8346
@andrewhigdon8346 3 жыл бұрын
EGR, exhaust GAS recirculation, not oil. There’s no way in hell that is acceptable or even “by design”. They put huge effort into every nuance of the airflow from air filter all way to the intake valve. Why do you think it’s called a Hemi? That’s a massive engineering. effort to get the valves to lay out the way they do, using a semi hemispherical combustion chamber so that the intake charge can approach in an optimally aerodynamic way, where the valves are on opposing sides, so the intake charge can hit the valve head sideways, as opposed to almost perpendicular. Same for the exhaust valve. Conventional pushrod heads have the intake charge enter parallel to the valve stem, then it hits the valve head and has. to go around the valve head to get into the combustion chamber. With the Hemi heads, it runs across the valve head, less turbulence, better homogenous mixture for better and more complete and fast combustion. Same for the exit path. Every little influence onn airflow affects performance, as well as emissions and mileage.
@DavidJWarEagle
@DavidJWarEagle 3 жыл бұрын
I hear you and thank you for the comment. It appears to be pretty common that the oil vapors from the PCV collect inside the intake manifold. So much so, that many people use catch cans to catch the oil before it enters the intake. My thought is that the exhaust gas residue / carbon would be harder to clean off without the oil from the PCV. This is just my observation.

Nice video, that's the most legit manifold cleaning I've ever seen. Have you thought of adding a catch can to help/halt the oil buildup in the manifold? I have one on my SRT8, and it ends up with a tablespoon or so of oil by my next oil change...
@DavidJWarEagle
@DavidJWarEagle 5 жыл бұрын
Robert Snyder Hey, man, thanks for the kind words. I’ve thought about that but I think the EGR system causes more contamination than the PCV system. So, I would probably only add a catch can if I was also going to disable the EGR.

I've got my Grand Cherokee 5.7 tore down right now replacing valve cover gaskets and exhaust manifold gaskets and bolts. Did you notice any performance or mpg improvement after cleaning the intake? I wasn't planning on removing mine, but I will if you think it's worth it?
@DavidJWarEagle
@DavidJWarEagle 6 жыл бұрын
I probably wouldn’t bother with it unless you just wanted to. However, I would consider removing the throttle body and getting some throttle body cleaner and cleaning that thoroughly. The reason I removed my intake was because I had oil seeping from the oil filler in the intake manifold where it meets the head. So, I was already replacing all the rubber o-rings on the bottom side of the intake manifold, and the manifold was pretty dirty on the outside. It didn’t make sense to me to put a nasty looking manifold back on the engine so then it turned into the video I created. I got the OEM Mopar o-rings from the dealer and those things are more expensive that you would think.

Hi Tyrone, I bottled up the solution into old milk jugs and the Purple Power containers and took it to a local oil change facility. You could also try Advance Auto, Auto Zone, or O’Reilly Auto. I know Advance and Auto Zone take used oil and I think they take coolant as well. I would put this solution in that same oil/coolant category. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

Good day, What’s the parts number for all of the O-rings for the underside of the intake? Thanks in advance!
@DavidJWarEagle
@DavidJWarEagle 6 жыл бұрын
Jimmy Rogers Hi, I don’t have those part numbers but your local Dodge dealer can get them for you, or you can search an OEM parts website like Parts.com. They were expensive though, over $8 USD each if memory serves me. There are 8 o-rings, one for each intake runner (all the same part) and there are 2 o-rings for the oil filler and PCV oil separator housing. So, you’ll have a total of 10 o-rings and 2 different part numbers. Hope that helps.

I have a 2006 Chrysler 300c 5.7 Hemi AWD; the car got overheated and damaged 3 pistons and both cylinder heads! I just got finished rebuilding the motor and started to clean the intake from the valve seat contamination when I noticed there's a melted ½” hole inside of the intake on cylinder #1. Just wondering if the hole is there by a design or mine just got burnt through??? It looks like I can patch it with some RTV, but I can’t see if any other cylinders have holes. I hate cheap plastic parts. LOL
@DavidJWarEagle

If it behaves in autostick, that would make me think it’s a MDS problem. MDS is disabled in autostick mode. Have you taken it in for service? If you can take the service advisor with you and show them exactly what’s its doing you might have a good chance of getting it sorted out. Also, are there any trouble codes? You should be able to do the Mopar Key Dance to retrieve them. I have a video on that and it’s super easy to do.

maldo72 Usually this would be done on a car that isn’t used on public roads, “off-road” use only, and you would need a custom tune to disable the EGR system and normally a Diablosport tuner would be used to load the tune into the PCM on the car.

My Chrysler 300C dropped a valve seat and I can't believe how much metal nuggets made it into the intake and I'm even more shocked they didn't get redistributed throughout the engine. Unfortunately your video is only helpful if you want to get oil/dirt out of your IM. I'm probably going to the car wash and use the high pressure sprayer to clean it out. I've washed it out 6 times and metal bits still keep coming out. Then I'll probably follow up with the air compressor filled up to about 100PSI.

In the case of a dropped valve seat, people usually replace the intake manifold. It is unlikely that all of the metal will be removed.

I do, but I have had this car for only about 4 years and I think I have put about 18,000 miles on it. The car has about 66,100 miles on it now. So, perhaps the build up was from the previous owner.

you should try kerosene, it is not corrosive. it is a parts cleaner. the video is good, but you are using the wrong product to clean engine parts. the pcv is a one way valve, the oil and fumes go from the pcv area to the intake. Good video though
