Chrysler PT Cruiser 2001 PCM probem?

Well, actually the PCM wasn't bad in my car, it was a shorted wire (one that links the PCM with the TCM) in the description you can find a link to the solution. Sadly, the battery charging circuit/regulator is part of the PCM. I've heard that some people bypassed it by using a battery charger regulator for older cars, but I've never tried by myself.

I'm glad it helped. You always can remove the negative terminal from the battery for about 10 mins to clear all the codes and the limp mode (trannsmission related codes like P0700)

Actually I would say it's the PCM, not the TCM (P0605 is linked to the ROM in the TCM, but usually is because a faulty PCM). There is a store in ebay that sells PCMs, you give them your vin and some data and they program it for you. (You need to send your old unit when replaced) The good thing is that you can return it if it doesn't solve your problem, in that case, you only pay for the shipping costs. Look for autocomputer exchange in ebay, They also have a website

trouble with my 2006 cruiser will start some days then will just click no turn over new battery,new starter new alternator.still will start some days then other days won't any ideas may be bad pcm?

i have a 04 pt cruiser, same here show PO700, PO736, PO562, my trannsmition is in limp mode, not reverse at all and only drive on 1st gear still cant figure out how fix it already replace tran fluid, with filter and speed sensor in and out and fuse, relay and same without any luck thinking might be the PCM.........

So did you replace your own PCM ? if so it would be very helpful to know where it is located on the vehicle. I have a 2005 pt cruiser light wont go off even if car is off and key out of ignition.

Which light doesn't go off? the headlight or the MIL (check engine light)? if is the first, you should check the multifunction switch (usually goes bad and keep the fog lights on) If is the second, you can go to Autozone and they check the codes for you and tell what's making the MIL light up. The PCM usually is the last resource, in my case I replaced the PCM, but it wasn't the problem ( it was a broken wire). BTW, the PCM is in the drivers side, bolted against the firewall. I hope it helps.

Having the same issue. But p0700(TCM), p0605(TCM) and p0601(ECM - the confusing one). I REALLY dont want to replace BOTH computers. I am having slight tranny issues with it not wanting to shift into 2nd or 3rd. So, 0700 and 0605 make sense, they're related. But...why the p0601? Do you think the ECM error will go away when I replace the TCM?

hi im getting p1390 and 0700? also just stuck in 2 gear. car starts and idles just fine. headlight light on dash is always on.

p1390 could be speed sensor or a timing belt that skipped one tooth. P0700 just says that you probably have something wrong with your transmission control unit. pull the negative off the battery for like 10 mins and check if it comes back. odds are that the speed sensor went bad. its a cheap fix and you can do it by yourself

I have a 2005 pt cruiser- with a check engine light for the second time. The first time I had the O2 sensor replaced. A few months later the light came back on so I had the O3 sensor replace again. Now the light is on again and the dealer tells me it is the O2 sensor once again. I waited 10 months to go back thinking I had no one I could trust at the dealership and all they wanted was to rip me off. I recently took it back to the dealer because the senor were still on warranty and they checked it again and found that the sensors are ok the pcm they say is the problem. How can I protect my wallet from replacing parts that are good and finally getting down to resolving the issue ?

You should try to check the codes by yourself, doing the "key dance". Once you have the codes you can either go to the mechanic more educated, or you can look in ptcruiser links dot com. There is a lot of helpful people there.

ok im confused now....the mechanic just told me the pcm is bad, but it acts nothing like what you posted in the video....the batt light came on and the battery finally drained. the code was 2504 wich said it was over charging. am i being scamed for the more expensive fix?

I learned a few things from this. I learned that the trip button on a pt cruiser resets the computer I already knew you could read the codes by flipping the key back and forward three times but was not sure on how to reset the computer. thanks for showing what you did. also glad you got it figured out. I have the crank position senses problem going on right now code p0339 doing it right now.

Have you tried to pull the codes (doing the key dance)? If so, which ones you got? For the symptoms you describe, looks like the crankshaft sensor. Please check the codes, so we can confirm that

hi people, i have a 2001 Pt Cruiser but since june 2013 when i drive it for a very long distance the engine will just shut down then the check engine and oil lights come on, If i try again to start the engine it wont start so i will have to wait for a while then it will start again. I took it to my mechanic but that guy just cant fix it. he made me buy 2 sensors and a fuel pomp but nothing changed .can some one tell me what that can be please???

hi i have 2006 pt cruiser Touring edition, im having limp mode of 2nd gear and it shows high rpm but low speedometer, the reverse is working fine, change the in and out speed sensor and trans solenoid pack but still the check engine light on and the problem still there...one thing more it shows on the panel light indicator on trans is all light showing instead of my choice drive mode only.. pls help

Yes , i found out that it need to change the PCM and it works now, just buy at the ebay and communicate with the seller

At first i was thinkin TCM, and i did buy too, but still the problem never come out, then i read the review and they say it need to replace the fuse box the whole thing and it coz too much money,, so i decided to go online and make research and end up to a good seller that they program the PCM for me, according to my mileage and VIN#, and now my PT running perfect and save gas. If you need the seller name i will give it to you.

si se prende la luz del motor hace lo que hago con la llave (llevarla 3 veces a contacto) y te va a tirar unos codigos (llevate un lapiz y un papel) después los buscas en internet y ahi vas a saber que problema tenes

compra una bateria y conertala y abre la llave pero no lo arranque dejalo asi por 3 o 5 minuto y despues lo arranca pero no lo acelere por 1 o 2 minuto

i experienced this and ended up to be bad connections where the ecm plugs work loose on the ecm it self, no buss is no communication sometimes will quit running but wiggling the ecm harnesses will sometimes reconnect and then you can restart the engine

p0351 refers to the ignition coil circuit. and is consistent with the symptoms you describe. Usually means that the coil pack needs to be replaced. It's an easy fix, but first check the coil pack's connector, because it could be just a bad connection. Just in case check the spark plugs and wires before. Even if it's unlikely to be the cause, it's very easy to check and cheaper to replace. (worst case scenario you end with new spark plugs)

Juan Diego Persico I had the same exact problem and replaced my coil pack. Ran fine for maybe a month then the same thing happened. I get a multiple misfire code and an ignition oil A secondary circuit. Could it be the ECM?

Como andas, ese codigo puede ser por 3 motivos, el primero y menos comun es que se haya arruinado la memoria de la PCM. El segundo es que tengas variaciones de voltaje en la entrada de la pcm. Y el tercero y creo que es el mas comun, que tengas mal la tierra donde se conecta la pcm. Revisa si las uniones a la carroceria no estan corroidas.
