The song is based on February 28 or better known as 228 victims in Taiwan, including the family whose father was baited out by the KMT (Kuomintang), a regime backed by China, arrested and executed. His little girl eventually became a singer but had to hide her identity and past for obvious reasons. in real life, she was passed around by KMT officials and used accordingly, but eventually had to get out of showbiz for a hard life hidden away for the rest of her life. However the stylized ending was surely what everyone who was victim on 228 would like to give back to their oppressors. Note also the painting used in the portrait shots was by another 228 victim whose burial after being executed by the KMT was stylized in the funeral scene. This video was released in 02/28, as their way to celebrate the "The 228 Incident" that happened in Taiwan in 1947. What I like about Chthonic(it's pronounce like "Tonic", I think?) is their lyrics depicts hardships in Taiwan like the Seediq and the country being under Imperial Japanese rule. Been a fan since their album "Takasago Army". And I'm glad you guys decide to do a reaction of this song.

Fun fact they 95% of the time do all their songs in English as well. And they usually seem to flow better as well. Also their videos and music usually depict war and martial law and the abuse their people have faced from their government for centuries! God I love Cthonic!!

I've been following Chthonic since they pretty started as a band. They are underrated and proud of their country. They are also very cool in person. Seen they live a few times and such energy they have.

I love their first five albums. Way more brutal than this new stuff.But honestly,unless one day they decide to play modern jazz,I will be buying every fucking album recorded by this band as long as they decide to carry on.

The Chthonic sings in taiwanese. When Japan ruled Taiwan during 1895-1945 , taiwanese was never forbidden. But when the Chinese (KMT) came to Taiwan at 1945, taiwanese was banned or limited for decades in the school or TV and brodcast. At that time if kids spoke taiwanese in school, they would get punishment. That is why nowadays lots of young Taiwanese can not speak fluent taiwanese. Really sad. ~~~PS. ~~~ PS. Freddy was a really good legislator during his 8 years of service. He went through lots of conflicts with KMT, but the withdrawn from "New Power Party" must hurt him more. Afterall he founded this party, but the new members not only betray his original ideal but choose to cooperate with KMT together. Freddy stays loyal to Taiwan, and joined "Democratic Progressive Party" in 2023. Wish him and Chthonic all the best.
