Ross Gaylard Hi Mark , I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and new year , this is another really great video and you seem to be back to your old happy self again , we all feel a bit down now and again but never forget how many friends you have especially all your subscribers , thanks again

Hey Ross, it is so good to hear from you, I am being a bit slow in my replies currently, it can be quite hard to keep up at times. Thank you, we had a peaceful Christmas, fairly low key as that is how the family prefer it. I hope you and your relatives had a good Christmas too. Cheers it feels good to have bounced back a bit, but in a big part down to you guys and your support, without it and I was verging on to a seriously bad area mentally and risking losing myself.

Hi Mark it had perplexed me as to why I hadn't commented on this video when I knew I had watched it? Mystery solved, I had watched it on the TV and not on the phone, hence no comment. Brilliant session,fabulous fish, never had the chance to fish for them until this year when I found they were in my rough old trout rivers. The trout/perch/dace average about 4oz, but charlie chub gets to about a pound or so, which is a good catch on light tackle in strong current, great thing about the chub is they will take fly/lure/spinner/bait and are masters at living near snags and diving into them when hooked. Congratulations on the continued weight loss, I'm glad you are feeling the benefits, all the best for 2019.

What can I say mate, loving this, I know its a bit “cliche” but with the “New Year” thing... I think it’s definitely a very good start to a new era bud, Amazing work not just on the Angling but the work you have put into your health aswell, 28lbs doesn’t just fall off, you have to graft it off matey & I can see a mile off how much more of a glow you have, you mentioned cardio, says it all buddy, keep at it mark because if you feel good then so does life & it’s obviously showing, even through your angling as you mentioned, you were on ya game and felt more active, that’s a real good thing to have in a pretty messed up 🌍 that we’re in at the moment, Top man, can’t wait for the next instalment, my chub fishing has slowed right down due to otter presence on so many different stretches I have joined, I’ve seen a massive decline in the last 5 seasons on the same 6-7 stretches I try and visit, anyway take care buddy and keep up the Astonishing work ❤️

Hey Phil thank you, it was a really pleasing trip and you're right it took some graft to get it that amount of weight off but the sense of reward after each cardio session has been amazing, the feeling of pain turning into good vibes as such when the endorphines kick in. I saw your posts about the Ouzel recently, sadly otters seem to abound everywhere now and I am seeing chub damaged by them or certain sections of tiny waterways that were good now devoid or you may scratch around for a fish or two. The river in this video is not escaping them either as I have spotted them season before last. Wasn't it a great idea to have a reintroduction of an apex predator before making sure the rivers could sustain them :( . You take care mate it is always good to hear from you.

Mark they drive me crazy & become so annoying after putting lots of work into tracking down the bigger fish, Anyway moving along, I could rant all day about those, yes as you say it’s a massive achievement and good for you buddy, I know we haven’t had that cold snowy & icy weather yet so we’ve still got that to look forward too, you can’t beat a good frosty morning up that riverbank, something I’m looking forward too, ya take care mark

JACK POT mark what a day;s fishing and stunning chub .it looks very mr crab tree i must say you have a wonderful river there mark ,,wow ,and all kept simple and on the move well done ,,do you get many small chub in the river mark or are they older fish in general ,,,and i have to say you look really well your doing some thing right mark ,well brilliant video as always and of course tight lines,.
@francolinobasco5 жыл бұрын
Hey stephen, how are you doing? Thank you It is a wonderful waterway and as you have said yourself there is no need to over complicate things, it was nice to find the chub were willing. In regards to your question asking if there are many younger fish, that varies from stretch to stretch, some areas have a larger biomass of chub with a lower average size and other areas have a population of larger fish.

You make it look really easy. I’m fishing very similarly to yourself. Roving the small rivers near me looking for chub. Nothing. I’m new to chubbing and will persevere but it’s frustrating

Thanks Danny, well I really hope you find a few, remember I am always available via my email in my youtube channel description and generally know a bit about a few rivers, you can always ping me an email and I can try to offer some advice.

Hey Mark. What a session! Huge well done. Can I pick your brains....... how do you hold bottom with just one swan shot. I end up either putting more weight on or the bait gets pulled round and the bite indication is really poor. Also in the method you used, how tight is your line. I wonder if that’s my problem that I fish with the line too tight? If you could advise I’d be most grateful. happy new year and keep ‘em coming. Gav..
@francolinobasco5 жыл бұрын
Cheers Gavin and yes you're welcome to ask. Holding bottom depends a lot on the swim in question, the flow and counter flows, also whether you want the link leger to hold or roll. For example the first swim you can see I have rapid water from my margins to perhaps 3/4 the way across, it then changes into a semi slack with a counter clockwise flow. However by making sure the rod is set high on the rest and casting into the slack I can be fairly sure it will hold position, unless of course there is debris coming downstream. I also if need be sometimes keep a slight bow in my line as well as this helps alleviate drag. I am not so sure if it is because of you fishing a too tight line as you can see during this video that at times I'm checking to see if I am in contact with the ssg shot. I do however vary the line tension based on swims and how well the fish are willing to feed.

Hi mark another great video with some lovely fish? I am looking at buying a camera to make videos just like yours what would you recommend? Thanks
@francolinobasco5 жыл бұрын
Cheers Josh! In answer to your question that is a fairly open and long winded one to answer but I will try in a general manner. For fishing and not carrying much camera gear then I would honestly recommend a go-pro, a lot of my small videos when I have fished this season have been filmed on one, the newer models are waterproof out the box which are great for us anglers given the weathers we will find ourselves in, the go-pro is a jack of all trades, but with the right settings honestly is hard to beat for its compact lightweight nature. If we are talking main cameras to film and photograph with then I would perhaps recommend that you take a look at the Panasonic Lumix G series of cameras with flip round screens and 4k video, microphone ports and also remote control ports for self take photography, these are great and come in various different models. Also the likes of the Sony A6000 is worth a look too, as are the Sony A7 series of cameras (presuming you don't need a flip round screen, as they don't have a fully articulate screen). If you was looking at perhaps a bridge camera, something that has a smaller sensor but doubles as an inbetween camera and a mix of dslr and point and shoot, but still capable of 4k film quality, as well as a telephoto lens, I would hand on heart recommend the Panasonic FZ1000, which can be bought second hand at a more sensible price these days. If you do decide to film playing fish at night, then I would recommend a small L.E.D panel light "Godox" make some good ones as do other companies. I hope that is of some basic help. What I would say is take your time and read all the reviews and don't rush purchase, make sure you have selected a camera that does everything you want it to, but remember all models have their own positives and negatives, there is no such thing as the perfect camera.
