Hi Mark. I've been watching a lot of your videos recently and find them utterly brilliant! I've been a keen fisherman since I was a kid. I have recently got my partner into fishing and after watching your videos I can safely say she is "hooked"! This particular video has made us start to look around our local river mease near Tamworth, Staffordshire as its very small and full of lovely looking swims. We both commented on your approach to fishing and how your obvious love for it comes across in your video's. So thank you for inspiring my partner to venture out and do something I love to. Keep up the great work and your superb everyday approach to fishing. Top man. Many thanks matt and Lisa

Wholeheartedly agree with you old chap! Its what keeps me going watching videos from the season before, while we cant hit the rivers! Really glad I came across your channel recently, its stirred something up within the angler inside me that had been buried for a while, having spent the last couple of years taking my dad and young nephew to fish commercial lakes. It just about scratches the itch, but its not like being on a wild and wonderful back water type location and using all your skill and guille against the beasts below!...and your a local lad to me too!

some nice fish there mark that rotund chub was a corker had it been a deeper body it would have looked like a giant roach ,then you had a big roach and that last chub it looked about 2ft long,,and then the good old perch real crabtree country next week end im off down the river leam for some dace perch roach and chub and the now rare gudgeon,,so its a pint of floro pinkes and bronze maggots ,the pinkies are brilliant for the roach and dace ,we will see what the otters have left us ,well mark until the next tale from the bank keep well keep the videos coming and tight lines,,

Hi Mark, Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills with the rest of us!!! I often hear you say in your videos that the weather is good for fishing, or the water temperature is good etc. Would you mind sharing what indicators tell you that the weather and water is good for fishing? I mainly target barbel and chub on small river. What would be good conditions in summer to catch? Thank you!
@francolinobasco
@francolinobasco 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Filip and good question. I generally prefer low pressure weather systems, that would be to you or me cloudier days, maybe some rain, breezy etc. Generally fish are more inclined to feed more readily when barometric air pressure changes and by that I mean air pressure drops. For example high pressure, blue skies hot and sunny, air pressure over 1022mbars or higher make for harder fishing, however if weather turns cloudy and perhaps some rain air pressure will drop and I like many anglers prefer low pressure weather systems. Something I also use a lot during monitoring air pressure on my mobile phone when fishing is also keeping an eye on humidity as personally I like low pressure weather systems and still a good humidity level, anything from 70 to 90 percent and I feel then that things are spot on.

Not only does less anglers mean you get your choice of swims, I also think, if there’s less people throwing in bait, more chase the fish will come to your baited area.

Hi mark. What weight lead would you use?. I've used 3 ssg, and light bombs but they seem to gravitate to the centre of the river. I've used 2oz leads but am worried that it will make to much of a splash, I'd appreciate your advice, thank you
@francolinobasco
@francolinobasco 4 жыл бұрын
Hello there Richard, if i am out on a link ledger then I generally tailor the size of ssg shot and amount towards the swim i am fishing and the way I want the bait to roll through or nestle. I generally use 1 size two ssg shot on smaller rivers if they are fined down but still enough flow to trundle baits and 2 2ssg shot if i want a bait to move slower in more flooded conditions and perhaps hold a little in and off the slacks. A lot has to do with tailoring your approach and reading the swims you have in front of you if hopping from swim to swim as they can vary quite a bit. I agree with a 2 ounce lead spooking fish on tiny rivers and it is something I try to avoid, which is why i do like to employ a link ledger on many of them.

Another very entertaining video Mark. Thanks for posting. I'm off targeting Barbel tomorrow on a small river. Could I ask you; what is your advice regarding dealing with crayfish? Just put up with them, move swims or, as some people suggest, put out a decoy upstream like a tin of punctured cat food in an attempt to move them away from baited area?
@francolinobasco
@francolinobasco 4 жыл бұрын
Cheers David. How did you get on for the barbel? In answer to your crayfish query I have a few schools of thought with crays, if i find I am being hammered by them in a swim I sometimes consider waiting a little while to see if a fish moves in as usually all will go quiet, failing that I will move swims. A punctured tin of meat or cat food as a decoy works fine, the only reason I don't do this on some of my waters is that I will get a ban for it, now how daft is that!?
@troutking7986
@troutking7986 4 жыл бұрын
Mark Erdwin . Hi Mark, many thanks for your crayfish tips! Sadly, opening day was a Barbel blank. Not entirely unexpected. I was on the middle Lea. Fished from 2pm till 10pm. Hemp & pellets. Water was low yet fairly coloured. Didn’t see any fish and no bites. I admit I possibly should have fished for a couple of hours longer but had had enough by 10. 😕. Always next time I guess...
