That was one of my most favorite days as a kid. I lived about a mile from this ramp, it was my friend Rich Flowerday who had the ramp in his parents backyard in Lincoln, Nebraska. That's where I learned to skate vert. It was a very special place. When the pros came to town and skateboarded on my home ramp I was even more stoked to skateboard. The Midwest Melee, in 1983, was so successful that they repeated the Midwest Melee in 1984 (Midwest Melee II).

I’m here to say I also represent the Lincoln NE 1980’s/90’s skateboarding tradition. I couldn’t do vert though 😵‍💫🛹❤️

When Hosoi rode for Alva. I remember him saying he liked Prince and Sheila E.

Awesome! Thanks for capturing this important contest in skateboard history! I remember reading about it in Thrasher mag. When my band NIL8 was touring I couldn't wait to see Lincoln NE!

Got my first skateboard at 4½ years old in 1984 and I'm stoked to have skated thru the 80s, 90s, 00s to present day, I'm almost 45. It's been a privilege and lots of luck to be fortunate of not getting to injured where I had to quit like 90% of my friends had to. What a experience and one helleva ride. Hopefully I got another 30+ years left of Skateboarding in me. Watching the old school videos takes me back.

1983. Board weighing in at about 4 kilos, lol. Little to no concave. A 2" nose, a 8" tail and a wheelbase of roughly 20 full inches, it's like landing on an 8X4ft sheet of plywood. Some of the most iconic tricks in skating were knocked out over the following few years.

Where is malba now, what's he up to. Kid could of taken out Tony and Christian if he kept skating. Poor soul. Props to Steve for keeping it real all this time to this day. Ledger for ever

Just know the guy is a ledge much respect starting from early 80s. Wasn't intentional stepping. Way to stick up for your bro. bros with Steve didn't want to ask him personal matters while we toured the burn zones in Santa Rosa.

Would've sounded way better without the B-52's or any music. It's too loud. I would rather hear the wheels of the skateboards rather than the music super loud.
