I attended a school of performing arts because of this movie. I moved to NYC because of this movie. I had an 18 year career as a professional dancer because of this movie. Thank you Sir Alan Parker for creating a film that inspired an entire generation to "celebrate the me yet to come". We are the Fame Generation!

I always cry because I know that the movie is is over. I was 14 taking dance lessons next door to a movie theater. The theater owner let all us dancers in free if we would dance in the isles and in front of the screen during the dance numbers. I saw FAME a over a hundred times. I became a professional dancer. Now I'm a dance instructor. We can ALL be STARS!!!!!

I think it's because the TV series was much better - more in depth. My Mum loved the TV show, but she finds the film a bit too mean and seedy and that some of the relationships don't really ring true in the film. That's just her take - I haven't seen the TV show, so I can't speak for myself.😅

Fame is not just a movie. It is a historic landmark and will forever be associated with American history of the 70's. Unlike modern movies which are about silly special effects and shallow and superficial plots... Fame is about talent, drama, youth and humanity. It has not aged a bit and some of the directors and producers who make movies nowadays should be obliged to watch Fame in shame.

Lee Curreri is a phenomenal musician; this number is a perfect example of his 'Bruno bounce'!! He seems to live & feel every note he plays. Having seen him play live recently at the UK 40th anniversary reunion, he STILL does this.....though slightly gentler now 40 years on!! I watched him in awe of his musical skills! (Oh, and he is still gorgeous too!)!!

OMG! It's been over 40 years since the movie came out and I am 72 years old. I still thoroughly enjoyed re-listening to this performance. I came across a performance of "I Sing the Body Electric" at some Grammy award ceremony including Cyndi Lauper. But this original version is still the best. The youth, the energy, the exuberance, the dance set on a small, tight high-school type stage, and the clear, piercing singing was just perfect.

When I tell you I planned my life around this show. I went to Duke Ellington School of the Arts because of this show. And yes it was like the TV show. Rehearsals in the hall way. Dancing in the streets and at pizza hut...oh and on the bus...yes...it was alot of fun and alot of hard work...its an experience I will not ever forget.

The characters were likable, every story had a great lesson, the kids were actually really talented, the teachers were cool. And then there was the pure, raw, magical, shining, incredible talent of Gene Anthony Ray. RIP, Gene. Your star still shines brightly in another dimension. We miss you on this one a lot.

I graduated high school in 1980. I have vivid memories of sitting in the old Ziegfield Theater in NYC, watching this film, and being enthralled. Here's the thing: "PA" -- as the school was called in those days -- is a FREE and PUBLIC high school, part of what was then called the Board of Education (now the Department of Education). You had to audition or submit a portfolio of your work to gain acceptance. The old PA -- HS for the Performing Arts -- was literally in Times Square. The old, seedy, rundown Times Square with the junkies, addicts, drug dealers and working girls. Alan Parker's vision of this film is astonishing. Look at those young faces in this clip, and the stunning diversity of the faces -- white, asian, black and brown -- which you rarely saw. Diversity was a thing at PA before it became a thing. And the immeasurable talent of what were presumably high school students. This was long before the cheap sentiment and artificiality of High School Musical and Glee. This film changed my life, and I will always be indebted to Alan Parker for bringing this to the screen. God rest him, and Gene Anthony Ray, Irene Cara, and all the others featured in this film who are no longer with us.

The ending hits hard, especially now in the wake of the fact that we have lost Irene Cara and Gene Anthony Ray, alongside a good chunk of the cast who played the staff. It is really haunting to see their younger selves alongside a group of other young people singing about their hopes & dreams for the future, and now the young people featured here are now in their 50’s and 60’s, old enough to be parents & grandparents of high school age kids now, and many of them are now around the same age as much of the school’s staff. It’s a reminder that time moves by quickly, and that we should make every minute of it count. Don’t weep and feel sad, be happy about your future. It’s really impactful seeing it on KZbin; I cannot imagine the impact it must have on the people who saw this movie in theaters in 1980. I wish I could have seen the movie when it first came out, but alas, I was born in 1999. I remember singing this song at a middle school choir concert (with just a piano accompaniment) when I was around I would say 11 or 12 years old, and I had NO idea it was from a movie up until a few years ago. This gives me nostalgia for my middle school years, and I wonder what my peers are up to now.

I had just turned 18, and had just graduated high school when this movie came out. Those lyrics had a PROFOUND impact on my life and how I saw my place in it. I was a theatre kid then, I’m a theatre kid now and forever-I play this whole soundtrack on every opening night of any show I’m working on, and this song, 42 years later, is just as thrilling, just as inspiring.

I was 15 or 16 when the movie came out. I started taking dance classes. Unfortunately, small town Ohio didn't have the opportunity for a school like this. I wanted to move to NYC and be a chorus dance on Broadway. Then the fear of bullying came in and the fear that people would assume I was gay. Abandoned that dream out of fear. I always wonder what it could/would of been like. I ended up becoming a nurse and have been for 38 years. I am ok with my life, but seeing this makes that feeling come back. I'm so glad things have changed somewhat. It still isn't perfect, but a whole lot better than the 80's.

This movie was based on my High School: the iconic Music and Art High School. Now, I'm in my mid-fifties and watching this brings back memories of being a teenager dancing and singing in the lunchroom. I remember the conductor, he was my actual music teacher, Mr. Jonathan Strasser is his name. He's gone from this earth now, but I so vividly remember sitting in his music class. I even remember the grade I got in his class (B). This song ALWAYS does three things to me: gives me goosebumps, brings back High School memories, and makes me cry.

I graduated from the merged school in the new building known as Fiorello LaGuardia H.S. of Music and The Arts. The new building was fancy-shmancy, with high-tech, state of the arts equipment in the music department. But, I missed the old, crumbling, building on 135th Street. There was something special about it, which I did not feel in the new building.

For me what makes this so powerful is it's authenticity. Those aren't a bunch of actors pretending to play and sing and dance. They are all actually playing and singing for real. The conductor is really conducting. None of it is pretend for the cameras. The soloists aren't all prefect. They sound like real humans

All of a sudden, I became very nostalgic for this song, especially the first 5 soloists. I grew up around this time, and this film spoke to my very core. Seeing it now... all of the pain, fear, and hopefulness - mixed with the reality of broken dreams, all came back to me. "Dogs in the Yard" and "Is is Okay If I Call You Mine" are next on my list - I'm gonna be a mess after that!
