UPDATE: A '90cm/360' player reached out and asked me to look at his play and give him advice. I responded with some words and this Unlisted video - Warning; Face Reveal (kinda) • 90cm/360 Tips for Shoo...
This is an update to my original video; where I discussed how I control my mouse to compensate for my low sensitivity. Link to that original video • Chugg's Aiming Guide -...
Finally bit the bullet and bought a camera; I figure that it will be useful for specific videos like this - as well as general ones like 'duel commentaries' etc.
Let me know if there is anything you would like to see specifically.
My settings are:
- 0.45 in-game sens

I believe a KEY component of low sens is - actually HOLDING the mouse, not just moving it around with your fingers. Also, seeing your full desk space/setup and arm position would be helpful.

Holdup, your constant ''prepositioning'' when navigating the map actually blew my mind here. I only ever did that when I was anticipating 180'' turns or 90'' turn checks, so to say. I'm going to give that a try and I'm actually quite surprised I haven't yet tried that in the past. My aim is, generally speaking, quite decent but this is totally different from how I usually navigate the map. Very interesting. Take the like and the sub!

Thanks for the comment. The re-centering doesn't have to be as frequent as I showed, but it does mean that if a fight breaks out my mouse is ready and centered. I found it a good exercise to help your brain anticipate each angle, rather than rely on reacting - if I forget to recenter, it means I forgot the angle. Hitting shots in AFPS can be made much easier if you're anticipating the fight that's about to occur, in terms of choosing the right weapon faster and reading the movement of the opponent more easily.

Chugg what about mouse accel ? Coming from cs I have problem with tracking, like when the ennemy goes behind or up etc... during a duel I always end up having to replace the mouse to continue following him so I loose precious time and get killed. Any advice ? Thanks for the good vid 😊
@Chugg
@Chugg 3 жыл бұрын
@@cordialement4383 I don't use accel, it's not something I found could help me without compromising my aim. 'Anticipate the options when placing the mouse'. Sounds hard, but if you're in a room with a bounce pad - if you recenter the mouse to be higher, then pull down for normal eye-level fights, you will have enough vertical space on the pad to stay with their hitbox. That sort of skill I developed while playing DM/TDM when initially learning the game, I imagine duel is hard to learn it in since there is only one opponent. You can also use your movement keys to help give yourself more angle (the closer you are, the harder these moments will be). The central idea of this video is 'get really good (fast and accurate) at re-centering the mouse'. Your question is about 'reducing how much you need to re-center the mouse'. That can be done with making the sens higher or better anticipating the range of motion you'll need in a particular room.

I've thought about grinding kovaaks with a slightly higher sens rather than my normal sens, which by practicing slightly high in sens, it trains the stress of micro mouse control and muscle memory more. So if my in game sens is 2.0, 800dpi, I might try 2.1 or 2.2 in Kovaaks to work on slightly better mouse control ability. Likewise, I might also find working on the opposite extreme when it comes to movement, crosshair placement and flicks. I am now practicing actual Quake games offline\online with 1.6 sens, 800dpi and I am seeing ultimately much better results with aim, your video is helping with my crosshair positioning while moving around. I think there is a clear advantage to training these two extremes independently, allowing for lower sensitivity play overall to be more refined and controllable. Actually bouncing back and forth helps maintain fine motor skills that you lose over time with low sens. I remember as a novice QL player I tried pro sensitivities out... most ranged around 20-32cm\360, what I found was I was best at 27.5cm\360 for my skill level at the time. But now after having experience with higher and lower sensitivity, the refined muscle memory is allowing me to explore lower sensitivity but without actually making it so low that it sucks. My sensitivity is 1.6, 800 dpi, and that is equivalent to 32cm\360... basically the lowest sens of that pro average. It still feels like my 2.0 sensitivity, but with a significant bonus to the stability, and only needing to use a little bit of your technique to orient myself in fights. Very easy.

Thanks for the video. Am in the process of lowering my sens and this video was very useful. Will not end up with a really super low sens but he pre lift technique will still be handy for 180 turns. Currently at 21,5 cm, will probably end up at 30 cm or so. Just need to buy a new mouse. Current one is 115 grams which is fine for 21,5 but lower than that and it starts feeling very clumsy to handle. Going to buy a keyboard without numpad as well to get more space. Can add something I recently did which has been great is remapping wasd to yghj. Clears quite a bit of space for the mouse since the keyboard can be placed more to the left. A keyboard without numpad+yghj should make it no problem at all really to use low sens.

That's good to hear mate. Adjusting the keybinds wasn't something I thought of when I moved to low sens - instead I started playing with the keyboard on my lap. It gives the open space to position the pad exactly where you want it, while keeping the keyboard close to the body - instead to positioning it far to my left and stretching out for key presses. But if your desk space allows you to feel comfortable in both hands, then awesome and go with that solution. One caveat I'd add is that; if you're a competitive player and will attend LAN events, the desk/setup can be very different from home. So determine how flexible your setup is, because it can cause issues in that case. I was seated to the left of this player, and we were luckily able to accommodate his extreme setup kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4rcoo2ridqGlac

This is an amazing guide! I do have a problem though, I play on a low sens in valorant, I'm not sure if you know too much about this but you are able to dodge flashbangs if they are off of your screen when they go off, so when im in my default position and try to 180 I can't go far enough, but if I react to it and try to reset my mouse and then dodge, I won't have enough time to dodge it, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to deal with this.
@Chugg
@Chugg 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah this is outside my experience, but I have two suggestions. You can slightly increase your sens until you can flick 180 from center. An alternative I would try before that is to recenter the mouse next to the corner. This gives you more pad space to get the 180 flick in only one direction. Center the mouse two or three hitbox widths away from the corner, then slide the mouse into the normal holding position. If that doesn't compromise your fighting and gets you the flash evasion then that should be a solution.

Very good vid !! Now i'm training with 800 dpi and 1 sens. But just a question,for UP and down What is your technic ? The same?
@Chugg
@Chugg 5 жыл бұрын
It's a good question. The main thing is to re-centre vertically as well as horizontally. The exercise I showed at 10:00 would be a way to improve this skill. It's important to say that 're-centering on the target is not always what you should do'. There are times where there is a big height difference, and you may start a fight with your opponent exactly centered on your mousepad - but a jump-pad, or a drop at close range can lead to you running out of mouse-pad space. Foresight is the best way to mitigate this issue; re-center halfway between 'where you expect them to be' and 'where they can quickly move to'. This is mainly for LG fights, since rockets/rail fights have a pause after each shot giving a window to re-center the mouse. I showed an example of this in my original low sens video (audio quality isn't good, but a handy demonstration) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnjIiJqIZcyKqac Your movement keys can also help - if my opponent is strafing to the right, I can save mouse-pad space by matching his movement direction (you don't have to just react to the opponent all the time, you can usually guess which way he needs to go to get to safety). Conversely, if I choose to strafe to the left, I accelerate the rate at which my mouse-pad space runs out. This can help you deal with fights you weren't expecting while your mouse wasn't in the best position - but it can also (and is legitimately part of my play occasionally) be reversed. "I want to walk to the left, so I'll center my mouse on the left side of my pad, since I wont need as much space on that side. If he moves to the right, I'll have extra space to work with - win/win". That was a slight tangent, but the same idea applies to 'moving backwards gives you more vertical use of your mouse-pad', while 'moving closer reduces the vertical use of the mouse-pad'.

You need to tell many people dont know that some mouse move up and left or vise versa on mouse lift. lifting the mouse can still cause the receiver to detect reflected light from the transmitter, which is interpreted into motion data. i had 3 of them like that all 3 gone in bin totally unplayable, got logitech and happy xD. But its very annoying that it dont say on box what mouse laser distance is.

Cool to hear - I'd just say that now is the time to teach your muscle how you want them to move, the degree of smoothness and consistency is more important than speed at this early stage. Speed comes once your muscle memory is developed - there is no point being fast if you're not landing on your target.

regarding mouse accel: after switching around for quite a bit now i'd say that there is no better or worse. both styles with and without accel come with some advantages but also some disadvantages. it pretty much depends on which ones you are more likely to settle for..
@Chugg
@Chugg 3 жыл бұрын
I think a person who has fully mastered accel has an advantage - they can land on the same target while traveling less distance (they arrive faster). But 'no accel' is easier to master, since the only factor is mouse position. I haven't personally pursued accel, so idk how much harder it is.
@DelasVC
@DelasVC 3 жыл бұрын
@@Chugg That's pretty much my experience, too! I'd say that for the vql style of movement mouse accel definitely is the way to go if it has been given enough time to get acustomed to. For movement heavy physics like crouch sliding and the CPMA type of physics it's possible to master but definitely holds the movement back and would require unproportionally much practice to get used to which is why I don't use accel in those type of games. Then again I wouldn't even consider myself an advanced player let alone experienced ^^ but that's my take on it

I have a question I’ve always been left handed and I pick up my mouse and keyboard the same way everyone does I’ve been doing that for 2 years that I started playing with k&m but my aim hasn’t improved a little does it have to do with the fact that I’m left handed?
@Chugg
@Chugg 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. There may be some real physiological differences that act as a soft cap on your right-hand aim. However, I believe that teaching your muscles to fire and coordinate in a specific way can be done regardless of handedness. In 2019 I started playing 8-Ball Pool; as a new player I had to learn and teach my muscles how to manipulate the cue (stance, grip, speed control etc). Since I was learning right-handed from scratch, my left hand was starting from almost the same place. It took a little more attention and persistence, but not much more. Now I can play with either hand comfortably. This is a skill I haven't seen in any of the opponent's I've faced (only around 20). "Oh you're ambidextrous", I've heard 3 or 4 times - not at all, I've just put in some dedicated effort to getting it right. The other point is guitar players: Our left hand has to do lots of gymnastics, applying pressure in weird hand positions etc while the right hand plucks the strings. To me the left hand has the more cumbersome job, yet we call that a 'right-handed' guitar. As I said, I don't 'know' - maybe try swapping hands to see if you're able to develop more deft control over the mouse.

TL;DR at the bottom. Your current cm/360 is roughly 26cm - if you want to lower your sens, you should do it with reference to your mousepad (or just 'playing space' if you don't have a pad). My thought is that choosing a sensitivity should come down to: - What is the size of the playing space we can work with. - What arm/hand movements can be used to control the mouse within that space. 'Muscle memory' is something I don't let stop me from moving to a sens that uses the space better. My personal way to measure 'effectiveness of using the space': - Lower sens = Better. This is due to how micro errors in handling the mouse get smoothed out as sens decreases. - I must be able to control the camera. I need a solid and super consistent hand movement that results in a 180 degree turn. My mousepad is 43cm wide, and my cm/360 is 57.2cm - which is 133% of the width of my playing space. This is a bit extreme, but I can balance the issues with good mouse control and experience. TL;DR My first piece of advice is to look at your mousepad and playing space - ask the question "is the size of my pad limiting me". After that, experiment with cm/360's and follow the 180 flick technique I showed in the video, looking for what feels comfortable and consistent. A side note - The choice to use 3.5 @400 vs 1.75@800 are equivalent as far as I know, so for menuing convenience go with 800.

@@Chugg Hey Chugg, I know that's just your opinion/philosophy but I'd like to share my own (which I have formed in part following your advice), in which I happen to disagree with you when it comes to "lower sens = better" always, provided have the space to use it properly. (Although I do think that lower sens is usually more ideal for more people) I have been experimenting for a long time, because I have not really been comfortable with any sens for a long time until just recently, and I found my ideal sens by doing the following. So, my "main" game is CSGO, and in that game crosshair placement is pretty fundamental and enemy placement is mostly predictable and there isn't a lot of fast moving enemies, so what I did was, I loaded up an aim map (yprac aim arena more specifically) and in this map there's a shooting range of sorts, where you can setup an area for red targets to appear for you to shoot. So I set up a square in the lowest possible setting for a square, making targets appear only relatively close to my crosshair (pic for reference: steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/960856720981349046/1F1DC4A7933F112294E99D9F801FDFFD2522592A/ ), I set generous times for the targets so that they wouldn't vanish too soon and then I started trying to hit them in a very slow and controlled manner, with deliberate mouse movements, something that you previously advised in one of your videos for practice, I believe. Now here's the kicker, while I think muscle memory can be trained for different sens if you take the time to practice the fundamental movements slowly, I think every person still might have an "ideal" sens. Why I think that is because when following with the proccess stated above, I noticed that I still overaimed or underaimed and missed more frequently if the sens wasn't right, even if I aimed slowly. Eventually I found a spot-on sens, with which I very rarely missed when aiming slowly and deliberately, nearly perfect. For me that was 720edpi. (Coincidentally, the same as your own current edpi. lol) In that sense, a lower sens would make me miss a lot more by underaiming because even though I'm going slowly, my brain just kinda expects me to reach the target already by a certain point, it just doesn't feel right. Why this is the case, I don't know, it could have something to do with a person's dexterity or hand-eye coordination, maybe something with the technique used when mousing (hand positioning or something else, idk), I'm really no expert so I'm just throwing out potential reasons for that to happen. My aim has improved considerably and consistently after that. I have been struggling recently and now I have been getting much better results with my aim and I'm just hitting my shots more and more consistently. Just feels right. I think even though I did this primarily with csgo's mechanics in mind, the edpi found using this method could carry over to other games just as well. I think that even in games like quake where you might need to flick farther away, the long flicks are kind of derivative from this fundamental, short-distance aiming ability. Tracking, too, is essentially making small adjustments trying to follow a moving target that your crosshair is already on, so again, mostly short-distance aiming. I'm sharing this because I thought you might be interested in the read of a different perspective/philosophy. I understand if you disagree, but I'd like to know what you think!

@@Gabrielnfs Good to hear you're making progress with your aim. It may be the case that people have an innate ideal sensitivity, due to the bio-mechanical structure of their arm. My statement 'lower is better' is a bit strong, it's founded on the fact that the micro mistakes we make have less impact as we lower the sensitivity. There comes a break-point where the gains aren't as noticeable though (varies with person and technique, but 57cm feels smooth to me). I oppose the idea that people have a natural ideal sensitivity - not because I know/believe it's false - but because of the harm that the idea does. There are many players who will stick to a sensitivity for bad reasons; "other sensitivities feel weird and I can't hit using them", "I've used this sens for 'x' amount of time, so I should stick to it" etc. All the while, their aim isn't under their control and they aren't getting enough from their fights. Modifying and improving a person's technique should be the focus and is what I encourage. It may be that I hit the 720eDPI sweet spot for something close to a 'natural ideal', but my choice of this sens was 100% guided by the mouse-pad space I'm working with - and was alien to me when I first switched to a lower sens. So that personal experience heavily influences my view. Looking at musicians also affects me - people can do some amazingly dexterous things on violin, piano, saxophone etc. These people who excel were not naturals, they cared about how their body interacted with their instrument and developed their speed and control through attention, modification and repetition. When it comes to aiming, too often a person's attention is on the screen, where they should pull back and observe their hand and how it's moving. I suspect (because others have had this issue) that when you tried lower sensitivities; the focus was on the target and your cross-hair - which is what aiming should be, but we need to monitor the hand and train it to use a new sensitivity properly. The idea is to set up a scenario where you're aiming, but there is nothing else happening - giving you freedom to pour 90% of your attention into being aware of how your arm/hand is coordinating, letting you look for problems to fix. But maybe that isn't the case and you did the practice properly, found that you do have an ideal natural sens and are now working to further refine it - cool, no worries. But someone who didn't put the work in that you did, is capable of saying "the sens I have now feels natural, so I should just work on it from here" and that's what I hope to combat. Thanks a lot for your comment, cheers.

Hey guys, new to pc gaming. When i lift the mouse and go back down i have a kind of mechanical sound coming from some part of my mouse that is “slamming“ or just reverbing. That was the same with the mouse i used before so how do you guys behave? Do you slowly put it back down or just yeet it onto the mousepad? Using a G903 Wireless btw, my mouse before was a g502 and wired and still had that loud uncomfortable sound
@Chugg
@Chugg 3 жыл бұрын
There are a couple things I would look at. It might be that you're lifting the mouse higher than you have to, that would make it abnormally loud. Be sure to lift high enough that the mouse sensor stops tracking though. Also, the playing surface can make a difference, if you are using a glass pad or no mousepad it will be louder. Cloth pads are more quiet, but there is still noise. Other than that, the only concern is the sound itself - if it rattles, then the internal components are loose and susceptible to breaking. Slamming the mouse doesn't make your gun do more damage, or give you better control of the crosshair. Be quick but not rushed and you should be fine.

Chugg thanks for the quick reply man... I‘m not even slamming it, i‘m just tryna be fast but it got me thinking my mousepad might not be the best for that. So quick question I believe Faze Niko fishes on the mouse pad vs picking it up and flicking. Is it bad to fish around the mouse pad. I'm new to mnk bout 3 weeks in lol
@Chugg
@Chugg 3 жыл бұрын
It depends - when it comes to Counter Strike, it's not as bad since the Time To Kill is really low and the opponent wont strafe far from the angle. I've only seen 3 minutes of him warming up in Deathmatch, but notice that when he goes to the edge or corner - there isn't a further angle that an opponent can come from. When a player is really comfortable with knowing all the possible angles, you don't need that extra space. When it comes to AFPS games like Quake Champions and Diabotical, the fights can roam wider (due to movement speed and high HP potential) and running out space will become an issue. So it's positionally specific and also game specific.

@@feastwchopsticks2816 I'd say 'yes and no'. This is a manual skill, one that I spent time improving outside of gameplay. When it's practiced and automatic then its great - but if you try to 'learn as you play', then it can feel too slow. As your ability to read the game improves, you will play less reactively and have fewer issues with speed.

@@farrell6604 Yeah that's what I had initially. My practice to break it was something like 3-4 hours practice, from 10-20 minute sessions (I was doing these mixed with aim practice). That is probably more than I needed, but the extra time spent practicing after my hands knew the movements helped cement it. There are lots of little details I can mention, but the most important are: - A player can surprise you, forcing you to move off muscle memory, but a corner offers no such time pressure. Practicing corners is the easiest way to get this move into your gameplay. - The speed and effectiveness of this move is 100% based on how well your hand knows where to land the mouse before the flick. Developing consistency and confidence in that specific area will be where the advantage is felt.

Hello again Chugg. So yesterday I lowered my Sens from 40cm/360 to 48cm/360. I ultimately would like it really low like 60 to 70cm/360. Now the thing is I play games like CoD, Battlefield and Destiny 2. Do you think my goal of 60 or 70 cm is too low for those type of games?
@Chugg
@Chugg 3 жыл бұрын
I believe you can make it work, but I haven't played those games for years. To do well, you need good positional awareness. Move through cover well, controlling where an opponent can shoot you from. That stuff is important normally, but being caught and surprised with your mouse out of position is a death sentence with how fast the 'time to kill' is in those games. If you can keep 95+% of your fights in the 110 degrees in front of you, then you should feel no disadvantage. The game switches from 'how well am I aiming', to 'how well am I positioning' - which is good, because that is low mechanical and basically PvE.

@@Chugg Hello again Chugg, so I've been using a fingertip grip since I started learning mouse and keyboard. I did try claw for a few weeks but I missed the raw precision of the fingertip grip. My question is this. Although i find finger tip grip very accurate atleast for me, my hand fatigues extremely quickly about a 45 minutes to an hour of play time, my index finger gets rather stiff, its quite hard to use single fire weapons and the tips of my fingers end up sweating to the point where I'm hesitant to pick up my mouse lol. That being said idk if I just have to get used to it some more or if I should just switch to Claw? I just find claw a little difficult to control recoil with and make micro adjustments. Any tips? Hand size from middle finger to wrist is 17.5 cm btw.

I'm not sure I understand. - 'x' cm per 360 measure of mouse sensitivity.It is typically calculated by inputting your dpi and ingame sens into an online sensitivity calculator - it's not standard to measure it out yourself with a ruler or tape measure. - "can't 360, can only 180", this could mean you can't spin your character 360 degrees, but you can do a 180 degree spin. 180 is the minimum I recommend you be able to do, since you can direct this mouse movement left or right to land your cross-hair wherever it needs to go. Does that help answer your statement?

imo low sens vs high sens depends entirely on the game you're playing, overwatch fortnite quake cod for example its good to go for the highest possible sensitivity you can control as maintaining fast fluid movement and keeping up with fast moving opponents is easier with a higher sensitivity, while games like pubg and csgo (and im guessing r6 siege never played it tho) you should go for as low sens as possible without making turning around too uncomfortable due to how small the hitboxes are and how often you might have to hit headshots at very small far away targets (over 300m+ shots in pubg, or pixel perfect headshots in csgo)

It's old your comment, I know, but that's not really correct. If you train enough with Low sensitivity, you're capable of following your enemy no matter what game it is. I just Play my self Apex and Battlefield V with slow sensitivity, and I can manage to kill the enemies no matter if they jump or slide or whatever. It just takes time and training to do that. And always stay on the same Sensitivity in every Game for the sake of your muscle memory :)

It depends. If you're playing Winston, sure. If you're playing McCree, Widowmaker or even Tracer (yup) then as *low* as you can go while still being able to manouvre around is always the most consistent option. That being said, I don't know what you consider to be high sensitivity. I consider 30cm/360 to be high and anything faster 25cm/360 borders on ludicrous for me. Anything slower than 60cm/360 is the same, but for the slow side of the spectrum.
