Chunky New 2024 Dacia Duster First Look: All The Car You Could Ever Need?

The Dacia Duster has been reimagined for a new generation, with a new platform and chunky, surprisingly premium looks. Is it the best 'normal' car around? We're yet to drive it, but after having a good poke around, we reckon Dacia is onto a winner.

I have only one gripe - why do you promote this only as a "second car"? Loads of people would buy this as their one and only all-purpose car. Not everybody has a Range Rover that they keep under a cover on top of bags of rice, Mr. Car Throttle... -_-

If you have a Range Rover and live in London no insurance company will insure it , they are all being stolen by the hundreds every day , eg keyless technology is a load of crap , garages can’t give them away and they are the most unreliable vehicle on the roads , that’s what he means by having a second car /suv .

I’ve had Logan Stepway from new (2017) and it’s been faultless. 55mpg, cheap servicing and comfortable on long journeys. I may have to think about trading it in for one of these. Love it.

The sideways "Y" is derived from the Stylised "DAC" of the new logo, the cut "D" at the left and the "C" on the right, and it also resembles the Volvo style, and i personally love it, but for brand things, it should make the "A" from "DAC" more obvious, to not infringe on "DMC" and Volvo styles, but if they give green light to the current logo, that is great.

I'm still wondering why they ditched the diesel engine. It was crucial for off-road or industrial applications like towing or carrying heavy stuff. The new Duster is more of a city car than a practical SUV. As a Romanian I am disappointed.

Well, the EU adopted that $%!/! legislation with no internal combustion engines from 2035, then Germany changed its mind, realizing it is an impossible task to provide reliable work horses till 2035, and they had another meeting and they postponed it till 2050 but somehow they are allowed to sell a limited number of internal combustion engines especially diesels, the number is decreasing year by year, saving them for applications where they are really needed, commercial vehicles like vans trucks . If they exced the number they face fines. Dacia is part of the Renault Group and they save the Diesel for Renault commercial vehicles, and some other Renaul family cars no one would buy if Dacia continued to offer a diesel. At the same time they do this to push people away from internal combustion engines.

@@DukeOfTheYard i'm well aware, but this means that (excluding the LPG engine) people will pay around 20 cents more for gasoline and as far as i know, diesel consumes less. I do not like this policy because it keeps people from saving more money, even though (they say) diesel engines are a bit more complex.

I’ve been checking this car until I noticed that they ditched the diesel, even worst all new engines are only 3cyl, and buy the previous model feels wrong, ill have to look at used market.

The new Duster is not actually a true SUV. It only has a 4WD surrogate, with a mild hybrid 1.2l 3 cylinders little engine, so it is no longer as good for rough terrain, and on the highway it will have a very high consumption due to the aerodynamics as good as a brick. And the price of a 4x4 version with decent equipment will be around 28,000 euros.
