After listening to Rahul Deshpande all these years, one question constantly bothers me. Why didn’t any famous music directors either in Bollywood or even in Marathi film industry use his services as a playback singer so far? I am yet to come across a singer with such vast capabilities who has such melodious voice with almost infinite classical base! For example if you take this song, he has sung this difficult song effortlessly and that too live! Certainly not a cup of tea for many famous playback singers of today! I hope one day sanity will prevail and we will see much more of Rahul’s work in playback singing as well.

I am a huge Rahul Deshpande fan. This disclaimer is important before I write here that I did not like this rendition at all. Imagine Hariharan Ji singing Kuch Na Kaho or Ustad Rashid Khan singing Pehla Nasha. Music is perhaps the only artform which demands exactitude and tonal alignment. He himself said it's an effort. For someone of Mr. Deshpande's calibre to say this is proof that every song cannot be sung by every singer. For me it's a miss. I will come back to this beautiful artistic initiative by Mr. Deshpande to listen to some Raga based renditions.
