fun fact from the book: -everytime katniss pressed the pearl to her lips she would pretend it was a kiss from peeta. She also went into the same state her mother did when her father died when she first realized that peeta was in the capitol. Our girl really was so in love with him and can't see it -Finnick wasnt trafficked till around 16, and so was cashmere. they attempted with Johanna but she refused, thats why she has no one

31:30 I'm glad you noticed this detail, many reactors miss it. Finnick had to do this to keep Snow from killing his loved ones. Remember in the last movie, Johanna said that Snow couldn't hurt her because there was no one left that she loved? It's been a long time since I read the books (need to re-read!), so I don't remember if it was there or if it's just a theory that Johanna refused to sell her body, so Snow killed her family.

I think the Capitol kills Johanna's family because she acted innocent in her interviews so she would seem like less of a threat only to be a skilled killer with her axe. The capitol didn't like that she fooled them so they wanted revenge. PS. I'm also so glad you gave Finnick's story the reaction it deserves. I get a lot of people missing it because so much else is going on but it really is important to show how despicable Snow is.

As a fellow Nigerian, this movie also reminded me of End SARS. At one point, you said this is not the time or place for the filmmaker to vlog Katniss. But one of the major themes in the movie/books is the power of media as a social tool for revolution and activism. The districts needed media to start the revolution. Likewise, End SARS would not have been able to get its message out to the world without social media. The world didn’t even listen to the youth of Nigeria until we pushed the movement through a hashtag.

Honestly, of all of my favorite book series, I will die on the hill that The Hunger Games is the most deserving of the expanded series treatment. I'd love to see so many more layers to the story that I know are there, but haven't been lucky enough to see yet. From Finnick and Annie's love story overcoming Finnick's trauma from the Capital to Haymitch's history mentoring tributes for decades before Katniss and Peeta to Joanna's standing up to the Capital and finding hope again to join the rebellion after losing everyone she loves, I feel like there's so much more to see that I would eat up immediately

Yes! I think it's a great sign of how well-written this story is that there is so much personal and societal history you would love to know but also already feel the depth of by reading between the lines and using your imagination. I think Collins did a great job of giving us enough information to feel we know a character but still leaving us interested in them. It creates this feeling that everyone's story is valuable and there is always more than meets the eye.

I’m glad you picked up on the finnick thing! I am sad the movie had the action stuff playing along side it because most people miss it and it’s such a big moment. Book wise all the focus is on him and you can tell how much it affects him since he’s so pale and Haymitch starts shouting at Plutarch saying that Finnick doesn’t need to tell anyone, and finnick does it for Annie. Everyone is so horrified and Finnick has to just walk out afterwards. Katniss feels so bad because she misjudged him badly at the start with shaming him for being seen with all these different people and being with all these capitol lovers who can be way older than him and that hit her like a truck. She also realises if it wasn’t for their love story, the capitol would’ve done the same thing with Katniss or Peeta. It’s subtle but in catching fire someone randomly touches her in the captiol during the tour. And Johanna says to peeta ‘how does it feel knowing the whole world wants to sleep with you.’
