I've always assumed that Lauren modelled some of her delivery on Avril Lavigne's. There's always a moment or two in a CHVRCHES album where I suddenly hear an Avril-ism trickle in.

When I listen to ‘How Not to Drown’, I’m reminded Of Avril, something about the diction, the phrasing. It’s absolutely wonderful how a torch gets passed on and changed and becomes a similar but awesome thing. Music is absolutely wonderful.

There is nothing at all wrong with this and I'm a massive Chvches fan, but I do feel they missed a trick a bit here... Lauren's vocals are great on this and I like that it's a little faster than the original, but with such a good song to work with I was expecting more of a Chvrches stamp... they could have applied their usual production to this and created a bigger wall of sound.. more things going on.. more edge.. I'm so glad the song is out there again, but it's just a little bit too 'carbon copy' for a band of Chvrches stature.

I'm a big fan of cover songs, but I like the original songs by Chvrches more. The latest album is the first vinyl disc I bought in my life. I think it's hard to get the uniqueness of Chvrches to songs of other bands. Lauren's voice makes a nice interpretation of these songs and the boys seem to like playing with more traditional instruments but these acoustics versions are not a Chvrches sound for me. I would rather like Chvchres sound interpretations of acoustic/rock songs. That said I like the acoustic versions of Chvrches songs. Maybe I just don't like Avril Lavigne songs, but it was the same with The Killing Moon. I probably will continue listen to Good Girls another thousand times.
