It is commonly said hall effect switches are these incredibly long life switches but I want to add a caveat. I have an acepad tech hall effect board that has had two or three switch failures and that is more and faster than any board I've owned. What happened seemed to be the stem binding on the top switch housing making them stick down. It came with spares possibly in anticipation of the issue so w/e but just a PSA that the durability of a switch isn't just it's theoretical number of presses - which in a contactless switch sure is greater - but also the build quality of the parts. I have a Wooting Two Lekker and it's one of my favourites! Thanks for another great vid.

On compatibility: Pretty much all games that would benefit from analog motion support joystick input (racing, flying, fighting, things like Elden ring, Nioh for example). You wouldn't want analog input for your typical fps, this is actually one huge advantage that keyboard / mouse input have over joysticks in games where console / pc multiplayer populations are mixed. You want your motion to be abrupt and jittery as it makes it more difficult to get hit.

I had a thought while watching this: Would it work/is it possible to have the highest actuation point(so I think 3.6mm for Lekker, 4.0 for the Two HE) be caps for each letter? Like if you press lightly, you get the non caps version, and then just disable the caps lock entirely? Seems like a lot of extra work, honestly, to avoid hitting caps, but I'm more wondering if that's doable. I don't have a wooting keyboard yet(batch one HE) so wouldn't know. I do like the idea of maxing out the actuation of caps though to avoid accidental hits! I'm just curious if having the farthest point on a key press be the caps for the key, if that would work well or poorly for typing in general. lol.

I have the original Wooting. The DKS is great, I use it in RTS games to reinforce. I press once, but I do actually reinforce 4 times. Instead of pressing 4 times the same key, I press it once and the DKS does it for me. Also I remapped a few keys to actually execute the same function. For example, on a tank the smoke is F, on another vehicle the same ability is E, so I programmed the DKS to do sequentially F and E, so I don't have to remember all the shortcuts. It's really cool that you can also disable some keys completely. I do personally highlight the keys I use for that particular game, and I do reprogram the nearby keys, so if I press T (retreat) and Y, I actually retreat. It's helpful, because it's easy to miss a key when you are focused on the gameplay. The typing experience imho on the original Wooting is not the best in class, but it's better than any keyboard using Cherry MX switches. But for gaming the keyboard is great, and the software is very good and constantly updated. Forget instead to use it as a controller. I tried with GTA and you can't drive. Very poor experience. For me the killer feature is the DKS, it's simply great.

Yeah, the design is just completely a downturn for me. It has the gamer aesthetic of 5 to 10 years ago. With the standard all black keycaps this looks even worse. I know a keyboard first and foremost should type good, but as someone older the optic would partially embarass me if others visit me, like im still stuck as a 18 year old gamer. I think for hall effects you would need a new pcb wouldn't you? So there would need to be a new type of custom board with pcb for you to use those switches. Personally if they made this board with a nice chunky high top abs case in like a decent white or grey i think it would be fine. If they made a 75 or 65 version that would be awesome, wont need a custom then anymore.

Great review as always. Finally we're making progress on the art and science of Imperial units. So here's a question: How are these ultra-smooth contactless keyboards purely from a typing perspective? I imagine being able to customize the actuation point per-key would help if you were to put in the time. But despite the massive smoothness that you attest to, there's still no tactile bump. Do the benefits of the contactless switches outweigh the lack of a tactile bump for typists? Oh and here's a cultural question for the Dutch: Can you use "lekker" like Sacha Baron-Cohen uses "aladeen"? "I have aladeen news and aladeen news. Which do you want first?" "Aladeen." "You are HIV aladeen."

Ayy, Blur! I remember that game, good stuff. Never woulda guessed I'd see it mentioned here. Looks like a pretty good upgrade over the old Wootings. $240 though... the pricing on these newfangled ultra-smooth boards is a _bit_ silly, gotta say.
@0name9333 жыл бұрын
Research and development cost money and human resources, so if the board has top tier switches, and user-friendly software, I'd say it's a board that is worth its high price.
@crazycanadian72233 жыл бұрын
@@0name933 It is certainly a good board, however for me, the extra smoothness of a contactless switch compared to a good linear MX type (Gateron, cream, ink, etc) isn't worth the price hike, MX linears can be made pretty darn smooth. I'd personally rather just buy a Leopold and mod it, maybe put the savings towards a nice set of MT3 or SA caps.

@@crazycanadian7223 But the Wooting doesn't just claim to have ultra smooth switches, it's also the analogue function of it that adds to the price.

@@crazycanadian7223 you buy the keyboard for the unique software, if it didn't have its features it wouldn't sell

@@yiepie9822 Yes, the unique software that turns my keyboard into a crappy substitute joystick that doesn't even work half the time. Definitely a feature that I need and totally worth $240! I have a gamepad for a reason.

16:10 So... it's a modern, contactless version of a Chicony KB5981??? And it doesn't have that obnoxious single-unit backspace to boot! I'm sold! Oh and that Omnikey 102 I snagged works fine now. Cable needed to be reseated and grounding screw re-screwed. I have no frame of reference for the condition the switches are in, but they feel pretty good. No excessive scratchiness or binding, and the sound is just something else.

I love the caps. And I like that it has detachable USB-C cable:) I have the steelseries thanks to you and I love it, I suppose this is even better:)

As far as I know the Apex Pro has two types of switches and only for the non main keys (these who not match the 60% layout) and aren't analog they partnered up with Gateron. Meaning the Omnipoint Hall-Effect switches aren't from Gateron. Or what do I miss here? Edit: I haven't found any information who made the Omnipoint switches, so providing a source would be great...

@Chyrosran223 жыл бұрын
The lock light indication is done with the backlight in the key itself. But it's not mega visible. I definitely would've preferred a UK ISO model but I'm not sure if I specified that xD .

@@Chyrosran22 I own a keyboard with that type of indication. It can be used to, but it is really close be effectively useless, especially with non-shine-through keycap set.
