"Cicadafaction"

Every year we run into cicadas in New Zealand. There are 42 species of cicadas in New Zealand that inhabit quite different ecosystems and each has its own size, color, shape. They all have one thing in common though - an unmistakable chorus! The big green cicadas of the beech forests can leave you yelling to hear each other, while the smaller light green cicadas are usually lighter songs on a breeze through the grass. No matter, Kiwi trout love them and travel considerable distance to pounce when they're on the water. Amelia finds a fun, colorful, active trout on a spring creek to play with. My first cast with a Cicada last Feb. in NZ fell about 5' short rather than the hoped for 5' above, my target fish. No worries, slurp....He musta heard it, then seen it, and chased after it. I wish my wife fished, or I'd go to NZ every year too! Nice video.

@@jensenflyfishing if you ever get the chance, the Green river below flaming gorge, may into june typically is when they emerge, some years you'll get a couple different sizes, usually a 6 on the small ones and 4 for the larger. That river provides some of the best " big bug " fishing in the USA.

Follow up: by 2X are you using a 2X leader by itself or a 2X leader with what X tippet? AJ do you recall your setup or DJ do you recall for her? I'm asking because I break big fish off when they start bucking like broncos and think it's where my connection is which is the weakest point. Thanks for any insight.

@@hollisduncan3293 9 foot 2X with 3 feet of 2X added. Up the line speed to a hard stop and place it where you want. A simple Orvis leader to tippet knot is what we do. Cheers
