As with all Boss Katana's the Tone Studio really opens it up to a whole new level. Heck, on my Katana 50 Mk II, I can even get my single coiled Telecaster to sound like a humbuckered Les Paul. Thanks for the video, very nice one... well worth a follow and a thumbs up 👍

That amp is badass, it would absolutely blow my windows out 😂 love the tones and internal FX but tbh I prefer (cheap) pedals just to play with. I still find it difficult to understand how someone your size copes with playing a full size bass; I’m taller and bigger than you and can manage a Uke bass no problem, a short scale just about ok but a normal size seems to be too big, same with guitars, I prefer a 000 or OM size, electric guitars are fine….. it drives me crazy 😂😂😂 P.s. I just love your solo playing, it just makes me want to play bass more and experiment with it! 💖💕💖

@CiciBass I'm sure someone has probably pointed this out to you by now, but I think the owner's manual might have the answer you're looking for about the effects loop and FX2. Towards the back of the manual, there's a basic block diagram of how the physical circuit inside the amp is laid out. The effects loop comes well after FX1 and just before FX2. I don't know how that affects what you're experiencing, but I don't think it's a software thing. I think that's where they are physically laid out on the board, so I don't think it can be changed. I'd be happy to be wrong though. I have a couple of Roland Cube amps (30X and 80XL). THE 80XL manual also has a block diagram of that amp. I've found it really helpful in understanding how the amp works. On a side note, I also have the service diagram of that amp's circuitry as well, so I can study it at the component level. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the 80XL's amp was class A/B as well. Thank you for the excellent demo. I love the sounds you make and I don't even have words to do justice to your playing. I think your fingers must have a direct connection to your heart 😊

My first proper practice amp was a 80s Laney G 150 amp head, and an old Peavey 2×15 cab. Wee, dinky 30w practice amp to that, prob not the best move ever. But these things happen when m8s are flogging off gear. So don't be like me, and don't buy a wardrobe. I'm 6.2" 220lbs, worked outside gardening. And that feckng cab was brutal to move, even with another grown adult helping. The amp head was good, but I had zero regrets after selling on that 2×15 cab.

Lovely stuff, Queenie. I used to favour 10” speakers for their “tightness” on gigs, especially. I’ve used 15”’S on gigs & found them “woolly”. I found the same thing with the Precision bass compared to a Jazz bass. More definition in a live situation. I suppose it depends on venue-size, playing-style etc.. ♥️🎵🙏🏻🎶🤔💐

Thanks for your review! I'm still looking for a substitution for my amp but there's so many… Orange looks cool but it's so pricy, Rumble is the cheapest and Katana only have two opts (110 and 210). I'm thinking this to be useful for a short future gigs (by now it's home practice + play with drums & 2 guitars), that's why it's taking me ages to decide hahahaha If you had to choose between Katana, Orange and Rumble which one will be your choice? (I was also thinking on head + cab but sometimes it's not that cheap lol)

One workaround is to use flatwound strings! Personally I’m not a fan of them as I don’t like how they feel, but you may love them and many people do, so it’s worth a try if you’re ever able to :) Another thing is that yes, the more you play the less extraneous noise you’ll get, however it’ll never go away fully as it’s a natural part of having such large strings with wider gaps between winds, and your fingerprints getting into those gaps. Personally, I like hearing extraneous noise on bass, guitar, and other instruments, as when things are too perfect it sounds clinical to me, and I like the fact you can hear that moment in time and that person’s fingers on the instrument, it’s present on almost any old recording (up until maybe the 90s where it became more common to fine tune and remove noise) and it gives it character and life to me. Same thing as being able to hear people turning on pedals and other random noises, as is audible in a lot of Peter Green recordings! But, that is of course personal preference :) One other thing is the more high frequencies you have in your tone, the more string noise you’ll hear as it becomes clearer and more pronounced! I’m really glad you enjoyed the song, thank you so much :)

@@CiciVonStrangelove Thank you for the response! Yes, I have noticed when I lower the tone knob they aren't as pronounced. The first song I'm learning is Schism by Tool so I need (I think I need) that high end to hear the snap from the hammer ons. I'll keep practicing; thanks again for the in depth response!! I really appreciate it.

@@NobodyNewsNetwork No worries at all! That’s a wicked song to learn! Yes you’re absolutely right, Justin’s tone does seem to be mostly (if not all) bass and treble frequencies, rather than midrange! Also for what it’s worth, you can even hear some slight finger noise from Justin’s bass on songs like Wings For Marie in places. His tone is definitely a recipe for finger noise, but it seems like because a lot of his basslines are so chordal and percussive anyway, it’s not so noticeable. He is also of course a very controlled player, but even he gets string noise :)

Cici sorry to bother you, but would you use this amp for gigging in pubs, etc? How does it hold up against a drum kit and a noisy room? Thank you!

Hi Cici , Thank you for taking the time and effort to make this video.🙏 Currently choosing between Katana Bass 110 & Orange Bass 50 combo. Total Newbie , Would appreciate your thoughts on which may be the better option ? Pairing with Ibanez SR300 , Home use only. Thank you

Hey Andrew, thanks so much for taking the time to check it out :) Personally, I would go with the Katana, as you have a lot more options for your money. But the Orange Crush 50 is an awesome amp, just depends on if you’re bothered about having a myriad of sounds, or one particular sound you like :) So cool you’re using at SR300, that was my first bass!

@@CiciVonStrangelove Hey Cici , Thanks for the reply , I was thinking Katana for the same reason you put forward but I also wonder how much benefit the bigger speaker in the Orange would be. "If all else fails , Boss Katana" , I keep hearing this voice in my head .... ??🤔 I should mention that actually getting to a shop to hear them in person is not possible currently.

I had to decide between this Katana for £550 & a Warwick Gnome 2x10 (300s cab) & 280w head for £440. Went with the Gnome and it's a tiny monster😁👍 The extra 120w makes a massive difference & seems much lighter. The head fits in my bass case compartment (with plenty of room to spare) and the cab is small enough to carry like a briefcase. Saved £110 & gained almost 2x the power. Disclaimer: I already had an effects pedal.

Great demo of a fab amp - half tempted to get myself one but I think my current Mk2 Katana 50 will cover my needs for now. I looked up the Bass 210 manual online and the signal path does show the send/return loop between FX1 and FX2 so it looks like there's no way to change the order if you've got your looper pedal in the fx loop. Curious that Boss made the bass amp different from the guitar versions where the effects all come after the send/return loop.
