John plays the Fender VI 6 string bass, George plays the rhythm guitar and the guitar solo. Paul plays the drums (with assistance from John and George) piano and the guitar riffs over the second half of each verse. Cim, you did GREAT!! RNB

You know C.B. I thought the same thing for decades. Then several years ago I read in an interview where Paul is asked what the paper bag represented Paul told the interviewer he was hearing it wrong. To truly understand this song you need research how back the the Beatles were not allowed in the USSR and there music had to be smuggled in and bootlegged copies made to get shared by Russian fans. So they wrote this to put a positive light and vibe to the USSR in hopes it would lighten up and accept their music

"Back in the U.S.S.R." reflects The Beatles at their cheekiest. It also makes a great companion to the song "Magical Mystery Tour". Listening along just now, Paul and John may have also been poking fun at the UK, which, with its socialized health care system many Americans at the time would have rubbished as kith and kin with the U.S.S.R. The Beatles music was actually banned in the U.S.S.R. And when it made it there, it often came in the form of instrumental covers categorized as "Western Folk Music". The Cold War ended when I was in college. We are seeing it return today with the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the draconian media clampdown in Russia. For example, a week back or so Russian authorities arrested a Colombian journalist on the pretense of spreading "fake news", which is their euphemism for calling the invasion of Ukraine a war rather than whatever the Kremlin wants it called, a birthday party or what not.

Hey girl you know it's funny when they say the Ukraine girls really knock me out they leave the West behind and Moscow girls make me sing and shout and Georgia is always on my my my my my my my my my mind see that's a funny thing is because Georgia is a satellite country of Russia but what are referring to is Ray Charles who wrote this great song called Georgia on My Mind which is talking about Georgia in the South you know in the US of course which is a whole nother story because he refused to play in Georgia because they had everything apartheid where black folks couldn't sit with white folks and so he was banned from playing in Georgia then later on they wrote a letter of apology to Ray Charles and they also made Georgia on My Mind their state song see what happened is when the Beatles went to India to visit Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at The Retreat up in the mountains Donovan was there and Mia Farrow and also none other then two of The Beach Boys and Brian Wilson was there and he suggested to Paul that they should do a song about the Russian girls just like his band with the Beach Boys they did the songs about the California Girls so that's just what Paul had done and he did a real bang-up job with all the background vocals just like the Beach Boys it was absolutely brilliant you know something ironic is because of that song about Russia there was a real interest from the Russian people and they used to buy bootleg records are Contraband records which cost a lot of money so they can listen to this music even though it was illegal alright janken girl
