I believe historically speaking the Lusitani were true Celtiberians, as in having major Celtic influences but being a pre-Celtic Indo-European ethnic group and spoke their own language. The Arevaci were Celtiberians in the sense that they were celts that migrated to Iberia. I believe they were originally from Gaul. It gets confusing because Romans and Greeks just lump them all together, but I believe you have like 4 or 5 major ethnic groups in Iberia. There are true Iberians (mostly eastern coast of modern Spain), southern tribes like the Turdetani and their related groups, stuff like the Lusitani that are Celtic influenced Iberians and then actually celts that migrated to Iberia. This is further complicated by the migrating celts from southern and western Gaul being ethnically and culturally very close but linguistically from different groups.

I knew it was over the moment the hoplites went into phalanx formation. That was painful

Me too. You should never open your front lines like that. Especially since your most valuable assets were the archers right behind them

I love Cimmeria. One of my favorite campaign factions. Really cool flavor and awesome starting location squished between Greek, Eastern, Steppe, and Barbarian factions

Even Iberian mid tier swords hit like a truck. Opening those gaps seemed like a terrible idea, maybe they should have charged them and gone into shield wall formation after they had them pinned?
@jlz2106 Жыл бұрын
Honestly, that move would have probably switched the battle in favour of the Cimmerians.

7:10 - 7:38 you can see how quickly cimmerian noble infantry melt. People tend to overestimate cimmerian nobles, they really are not great for what they cost. Infact, up against scutarii in a head on charge they get left with a little over half strength. What allowed them to take on the scutarii line was actually not taking a full charge on some of them, even then they didn't win clean enough to matter. 80 armour really hurts the performance of elite hoplites given they rely heavily on survivability to do damage over a long grind.

@@brainletfag 80 armor compared to most elite Hoplites who have 90+
@brainletfag Жыл бұрын
@@arn1345 Correct, and you can see that some of the best-performing elite hoplites have 105+ armour despite roughly the same stats. It really plays a big role. Colchian nobles for example are in the same ballpark of low-armour elites, with pretty subpar performance as well but at a cheaper price.

Cimmerians should have sniped the noble fighters. I see horse archers often used to pick at the flank in this game and that is an utter waste of their ammunition
@MotRi1986 Жыл бұрын
The problem is that slingers and foot archers have longer range and have more men in each unit then horse archers and are therefore able shred them in a very short time. Any semi competent player that is half awake is easily capablee to kill of horse archers if you use them too aggresive as you suggest. Basically if the player had done as you wanted him to do he would have got of at best a couple of voleys before they where dead. Because of this good players use horse skirmishes as a distraction and to lure away oppoments cav in the early game then when the other players way to busy macroing in later parts of the battle you can sneek them in and get real value from them.

Is Arevaci better than Lusitani?
@thewetblueberry7233 Жыл бұрын
Yes and no. Lusitani is more of a glass cannon but if their infantry can engage, then they will be cost effective against almost anything. Arevaci are less of a glass canon but don't do their damage on the charge except for the nobles. Arevaci has to grind the other infantry with scutari or quickly smash with their shock infantry. Arevaci has better mid tier cav and some of the best elite melee cav. Lusitani has more options for support units and has more gurilla units. Arevaci has rlly cheap spears with precursor javies though. Ultimately depends who you're fighting and you're skill level. Sorry for the long post btw😅.

Bringing expensive ranged+ranged cavalry is a big mistake. There is also no scenario, imho, where you shouldnt bring 20 units. Thanks to both players for bringing us these matches im enjoying them quite a bit.
