Do you hope for any more Disney titles to get Criterion releases after WALL•E? I’m praying on my knees that Disney licenses out David Lynch’s The Straight Story (which is a Disney title in the US) to Criterion for a possible 4K and Blu-ray release since the majority of Lynch’s filmography (aside from Dune 1984 and Wild at Heart, which were done on 4K and Blu-ray by Arrow Video and Shout Factory respectively) have Criterion releases. That film would be an ABSOLUTE PERFECT title for Criterion to have.

I bought this when it was first available on the Disney Movie Club (in fact it's the reason I joined), since Cinderella is my favorite movie ever. After almost 2 decades of a terrible "restoration", Cinderella looks amazing! I saved watching it until May 5th, Ilene Woods' birthday, to make the occasion very special, and it was more than I could have ever hoped for! I was brought to tears when I saw the dress transformation and So This is Love. Cinderella was finally done justice! Here's hoping the other restorations are like this, though I don't think the jump in quality will be nearly as drastic as Cinderella's first DVD/Blu Ray to the 4K!

I’m so excited for this release! I couldn’t help myself and got the DMC copy back in March. My favorite Disney movie finally seen with all the details. It’s like the memo for the platinum edition restoration was; pastel. That’s all. This new restoration feels like it went back to the beginning rather than piggyback off of the same restoration they’ve been using since 2005. Still waiting for Disney to do The Sword in the Stone right. Such a missed opportunity that they didn’t update it with that DMC exclusive anniversary re-release.

Even though it looks slightly better than the previous "restorations", they are still not quite there yet. Some of the colors are not what it looked like in the 50's and look digitally enhanced and brightened to make it more childish for 2023 audiences. Aside from the over-brightening colors, the color palette is also off. Her hair looks green now in all scenes, which is not correct. I know what the 50's palette from the original looks like, based on screens of the original rendering, the original film files, the cinema cards, etc. The colors don't match eachother either. Modern fluor pinks with old greens. It looks like 2023 style. Also, the grain looks like digitally added grain. But it is better than nothing. Hopefully we will get a release in 10 years that reflects the original presentation more.

They screwed up Pirates of the Caribbean, but do bangers like this and Who Framed Roger Rabbit?! Man, I know I’m miffed at their quality control lately, but this shows that they have what it takes to do a respectable restoration to one of their classics.

The issue with "Pirates of the Caribbean" is it was NOT rendered in 4K. Disney upscaled it and sadly when they did they scrubbed the film grain and it resulted in a wax looking transfer.

My question is, if ever they do a new restoration of Fantasia, will they do the following things: 1. Restore the original Deems Taylor audio, but with a soundalike or AI to fill in missing gaps 2. Add back in the black centaurette footage, if not in the main feature, as bonus features? 3. Include different cuts of the movie, like the 1982 rerelease where the music was entirely redone?

I highly doubt we will EVER see Sunflower back in any future release (this is the same studio that refuses to even release Song of the South). Multiple versions of the movie just seems like too much effort for Disney. I could potentially see the restoration of the Deems Taylor audio, if current technology allows them to do so.

Disney color graded Cinderella so much for the first DVD series, it wasn't authentic at all. At this point I can't tell if they're still doing that or if these are the original film colors presented in 1950.

Disney Plus currently has the new restoration, regardless if you have an HD or 4K set. Of course, you will only be able to see it at its fullest quality with a 4K TV.

I noted the comments here about the 2023 BluRay supposedly also being upgraded from 2005, but on my Sony Blu Ray portable (1080i max rez.) there doesn't seem to be any appreciable color change. Example: in many shots Cindy's ball dress remains blue, not silver. But will try again and look harder for the mentioned aspect ratio changes, subtle as they may be.

I find myself a little confused with the Blu-ray disc that is coming packaged with this. I ordered the steel book edition of the 4K from Best Buy. The Blu-ray included in that appears to be the same Blu-ray that came out in 2019 according to the identical artwork on it. This video shows the Blu-ray in the slipcover edition being a simple blue disc. Is the Blu-ray in the steelbook The New remaster Blu-ray or not? Why would the steel book feature the 4K and then change the Blu-ray disc to the old one? Very confused and wondering if I don't have the best Blu-ray transfer even though I have the 4K disc.

No, it’s not another collection. Signature line seems to be the last proper collection. It is, however, branded as an “Ultimate Collector’s Editon”, which Disney tend to slap on all of their 4Ks these days. And yes, it has a digital code!

I still waiting for a restauration of Beauty and the Beast, they have destroyed the film with restaurations, the interior of the castle is now almost neon, it is supposed to be a dark and mysterious castle. The colors are too bright and saturated now. The only version I like is the VHS version.

I just want you to know that I really don't care as long as I could watch Cinderella anytime! Cinderella is one of my top five Disney princesses because I sometimes identify with her! Because when I was 14 years old I had problems at school and everyone was so mean to me! Like Cinderella being forced to be doing chores for her stiff family I was forced to do some school work for my teachers! And whenever I try to reason with them they wouldn't listen to me! I really wanted to tell them how I felt about things but they wouldn't allow it! It's like I'm even forbidden to reason with anyone! It was still off limits no matter how heartbroken I've ever been! And ever since that happened in December 2001 I didn't want to go back there anymore! But thanks to my dad I'm glad I couldn't go back there anymore because those people were so cruel to me! I guess only a therapist could listen to someone and not a teacher from school! I know that they don't go hand-in-hand! Also I sometimes like to be like Cinderella because she wears blue like I do because is my favorite color! I even wore a beautiful blue prom dress at my sister's wedding in the year 2008! And come to think of it I really do miss wearing a beautiful blue ball gown! Butterfly ever get one again I just hope it would be sleeveless for the summer! Even if life is not a fairytale I just thought I would be like Cinderella! In fact if I ever wore a Blue dress again I would perhaps be a water fairy for Halloween! And I couldn't resist being a cartoonist whenever I get inspired whenever and wherever I go! But sometimes I had a feeling that the teachers I worked for that year had child abuse! And just as much as I want to stop bullying I also want to stop child abuse but unfortunately that's just not the case! I want to make the world a better place if I have to! But in the Brandy addition of Cinderella Whitney Houston has always been like a fairy godmother to Brandy! But as for me June Foray who did the voice of Lucifer she was like a fairy godmother to me! But now she's been dead ever since 2017! I usually like her because she did the voice for Rocky the flying squirrel! and I guess it's no wonder why Rocky is my favorite character! But to be honest I sometimes pretended that Rocky and Bullwinkle or by my side! And I've always loved them ever since I was a little girl! You are mistaken it's not the 2012 restoration, it's the 2005 restoration.

I’m not mistaken. The 2012 restoration used the 2005 scan as its source. They did extra work to it, such as giving it a DNR pass and an incorrect color correction. No matter which source, it still makes the version that was used on the Blu-ray the “2012 Restoration”. You can compare the 2005 DVD to the 2012 Blu-ray and there is a world of difference - the DVD is closer to how the movie _should_ look, in fact.

You are wrong. The color on the 4K disc is accurate to source. This is supposed to be a colorful movie. You cannot match that color and quality on an awful vhs tape.

The bluray doesn't look like that. Color of bluray is closer to the 4k on your screen. But bluray makes the faces flat and cartoon like. Only the faces not the background. And dvd is better. I wasted money on 4k
