When Beaver Cleaver needed his tonsils out at first he doesn't want to but his parents tell him about no school, a pretty nurse, gifts from all your relatives and all the ice cream you can eat. Then he looks forward to it, and thinks it'll be even more fun than Christmas. He thinks he might get to ride to the hospital in an ambulance and sit up with the driver, and some of his friends are going to ask for tonsillectomies for their birthdays. Then when the doctor decides he doesn't need it, Beaver hates it.

Whatever happened to Dr. Porter and Dr. Cameron from last season? If Mike and Carol eventually decided to go with one doctor, it wasn't either of them. It's a wonder that Cindy didn't insist on being treated by a woman, like Petey wanted to be treated by a man in the previous season's measles episode.

The vaccine had only been out for a few years. I remember watching this as a kid in the 80s and didn't get why they all got measles as not a single kid got them where I grew up, same with mumps.

@maidahaltrecht6577 Probably to see if Carol would actually listen to the doctor's instructions, which unfortunately she didn't and Alice had been out at the supermarket. Think about it. It was 1970-71. They didn't have the technology then to actually check on our loved ones like we do today.😂

@janinewhelan4511 Speaking as a husband and as a caregiver, Janine. Sometimes, we do some Stoopid shyte.😱🤦🏿♂️ Case in point. My sister-in-law had emergency surgery, and we were unable to contact her husband (now my ex-brother-in-law). When he finally did come up for air, he told my wife that he decided to take an impromptu road trip to North Carolina (we all live in Jersey). We told him about his wife's surgery, but he still didn't come home for 2 weeks. One of the many reasons he is my ex-brother-in-law.

Not really. They did it a lot in the 50s and 60s and it is believed to be a factor in the polio epidemic as the tonsils help protect people from getting infections. Some people still get their removed if they have repeated issues with them getting infected, but its pretty rare. This was quackery we were seeing in this episode.

How did Carol still have tonsils ? You normally get those removed when you’re little . I don’t even remember getting mine removed I think I was a baby then
@m_d19053 ай бұрын
Most adults have their tonsils. There isn't a reason to remove them for most people. They are lymph nodes in the throat to help keep infection from going deeper into the throat. Doctors stopped taking them out for every little sore throat in the late 70s.
