If the rig doesnt have a T start pose it is easier to keyframe the bones at frame -1 and set all the rotation values at 0 to get a T pose. (some bones may need 90 or 180 degrees rotation) Then bind and you are all set without messing with the geometry :)

A good overview but I wish you would have touched on soft skinning for non-puppet characters. Also, wouldn't it be better to create a T-pose frame for the skeleton so you get a clean bind? You can't just pick & rotate body parts on solid model characters.

The real thing to animate a character from turbosquid or other characters all ready rigged is the RETARGET tag... for me that is the key to use motion capture files in Characters you have or buy... I also staring to use it because I need to do it and that was my answer... I hope here explore that tag more in-depth... Thank you for that great tutorials!!!....

One way is to go to 'Merge objects...' or in Mac 'Control+Shift+O' and import it... if the file is compatible with C4D just follow that interactions... everything live it as default and there you will have it... depend of the file you will have all the character or just the info with a skeleton reference.... I'm learning Maya right now for my work at a gaming company. I'm going to need to learn motion capture and I'm wondering what the best program for motion capture is. I"m going to be capturing an actors movements and his acting and I need to transfer his movements and facial expressions onto a 3-D model of him. It's for a Virtual Reality game. So, I'm recreating a 3-D facsimile of the actor for the VR world.

doing this is easier in maya but a factor of thousands. my son likes C4d and was doing THIS because i couldn't figure out the RIGHT way re target MoCAP. Watching this made me realize that THIS is how C$D users use. It told my son lets learn Maya immediately after watching this.

Hello Nick, thanks a lot for these tutorials. They are very helpful. How do you remove that locked thing between the skeleton's leg, like the one in the first character in this video? I noticed all the FBX mocap data from that Unity3D library have that. Also how do you easily extend/loop the animation in the mobcap data? I noticed that all your tutorials you have 600+ frames. Does any body here know if it's possible to easily apply mo-cap data to your characters build inside C4D with the character tool. I am aware of the Retarget Tag method, but that seems like a lot of work for a character tool that is based on preset rigs. (I am looking for something similar to CAT or Character studio in Max, where you can load mo-cap to any rig you build in it with basically one click). I have been looking for this for a long time and it seems the C4D character tool is not very mo-cap friendly, but i hope i'm wrong. Any plugins out there maybe? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Nope, I think there is no easy way to do it. Probably you have to adapt the joints to the figure.

So, why dont you just use Cinema 4d's Character system, it has builtin mocap character for mixamo and others. And use character tag like POSE MORPH or RETAGET to match the mocap data. or even cinema 4d's motion system can make it more convenient.
