Yes we create our reality, but on the other side of the coin we have been set up to fail and it started with the fall from Grace, but it was not for the reasons that we've been told. Were we to follow the real teachings of Yeshua (or Buddha) we could override what has been done, but we have not because most of us neither seek nor find, nor knock, so the door cannot be opened. Having said that however, we cannot be blamed, because it was never actually intended to be this way.

I'm 62 and must have watched at least a thousand films ...this is the best one so far ....nothing far fetched... magnificent scenery ...realistic acting ... magnificent dogs...the ending leaves us with a moral to be learnt .

​@bevvaor2320Well the thing is with this film. It's filmed and based in the isle of man. Though they are filming in various places. Like the main parts such as the farm and electric tram station. They are around/in Laxey. Wheres with some scenes where Adam walks to the Pub. That's all the way down near Union Mills to St Johns. Which in real life is probably about a 15 minute drive from Laxey. Though with him walking it would take much longer than that. And realistically no one would walk that far to go to the pub. So its kind of i dont know how to describe it but theyve basically knocked off half of the island.

Raised my kids to be good folks...love grand dad duties...their single parent friends kids call me uncle...l'm the da they call in when troubles with the youngun's gets too much., it's both a blessing n curse as l feel my dearly departed beside me counselling my thoughts, whilst the angry man inside wants to bang their heads...happily our kids chose well but there's times l feel both wanted + needed n am an old shoulder to confide in. I'm not alone as l have oud mates that share the same. Getting oud is both good n bad...out living yr girl never stops hurting...but...it's not about us eh!

I've watched this 3 times and each time I am moved by James Cromwell's depth of pain that he suppresses bitterly and is prone to pushing people out of his life who get too close. It's such a beautiful environment for the film to unfold, so open and natural. It was filmed in 1998, so 25 years ago. I wonder if there are still places like this to be appreciated.

Sorry to be so contrary - but I wish that the last saccharine minute had been consigned to the cutting room floor. Some things are best left to the audience's conclusion/imagination. That said. I couldn't tear myself away from all that preceded it. Stunning movie-making.

Came upon the movie by chance. Brought up happy memories of watching the sheep dog trials at the Scott county fair each summer in Minnesota. The trial course here ran a poor second to Scott Counties. There was a natual deep dip midcourse where the dog and sheep could not be seen from the handler or spectators what a thrill to see the dog drive them over the hillside right on target and carry on to finish. Herding dogs are amazing.

Just a note to "Cinema cinemas": The Isle of Man is NOT Ireland. It is approximately equidistant from Ireland, Scotland and England, in the Irish Sea. It has it's own Parliament, and Great Britain is responsible for its defense. So, the Isle of Man is an autonomous protectorate of Great Britain.

In addition to that, the death of the mothers of both teenagers in this movie brought back to me so vividly the death of my mother when I was this very same age! I’m not ashamed to say that I cried more tears then I ever had since the day of my mother‘s death so many years ago!

As this version is set on the Isle of Man, it is rather the Manx tones not Irish tones. However, the Manx are Celts like the Irish and Scottish. In this Scottish great-gran’s opinion any Celtic style of music is music to fill the heart! 😊 I have enjoyed this story from the book and all the movies of it. I love this more modern version of the story with the beautiful scenery, lovely music and the fine cast. Edit: I must say that my all-time childhood favourite film version was always the 1947 version with Edmund Gwenn.

@@grahamverdin427 Thanks for the details...I read, after watching the movie, about the Isle of Man...however, the scenery there is very beautiful..from what I read, the only nation in the world that was recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere, with a history 10,000 years old and with wonderful landscapes.. I will look for a more detailed documentary about this island in which to describe the people, the tourist areas, the local gastronomy or about the excursions that can be done... there are some descriptions on the visitisleofman website of opportunities but a video documentary would be more complete...thanks for the help

Loved this movie as a kid, and I still love it. The reason I love it so much is because it was filmed on the Isle of Man and I am from there. I'm glad for the upload of this on KZbin as this is a rare film to find. I have the DVD though it's only available on Region 1 players. So only way I can watch it is on my computer. I have recently ripped my copy to my computer to watch it. Even though I'm fine with the quality, it was dark in places. This upload has new textures and has been upscaled/re rended. Amazing film.

Good clean movie. Your best script writers don't need to resort to trash in order to make a memorable plot. I didn't catch where this was filmed, but if was actually filmed at the Isle of Man, this is a place I'd love to vacation. In fact, it'd be a great place to live. Come on Moderator Cinema cinemas. Several posts have already said THIS IS NOT IRELAND. It is the ISLE OF MAN (one 'n' please,). Yes the scenery is lovely as are the people. The least you can do is get your pinned heading correct. IOM is Independent of both the UK with its own Parliament and Laws. The Parliament is the oldest continuous Parliament in the World having first been held in 979AD. Lovely film and even the opening credits state it is filmed in the Island and produced by them.
