If the majority of people agree with certain criticisms about the writing that just means that there's most likely something wrong with the writing. Well, I always thought the message for kids was discussion of fandom discourse and its effect on the subjects of it, to help kids understand that things they say online can hurt real people with feelings or help kids who have a following thanks to KZbin, social media, TikTok understand fandom dynamics. And for adults it's just some fun venting by writers towards certain parts of the fandom that need to look in the mirror more.

You know, there could be a good lesson in this episode about the culture surrounding celebrities or parasocial relationships. The Mane 6 were put on a platform by everyone else and harassed or worshiped for it. I mean, that could’ve been their intention, but that seems to have been pushed aside in favor of making jokes at the fandom’s expense that come across as more bitter. The Brony fandom already makes fun of itself, it doesn’t need the show to do the same.

I'm surprised there was no sin for "Flawless." The song was good, but there's just one issue I have with it. Each of the Mane 6 has a bit where they sing about their flaws, but when it gets to Twilight, she basically just says "See, we're ALL flawed" instead of talking about a single flaw she has. This episode wants us to believe that all the Mane 6, even Twilight, has imperfections, but never bothers to talk about hers

Heck yeah, Cinemare Sins times again! It goes without saying that "Fame and Misfortune" is one of the craziest episodes of not just season 7 but the entire FIM series. Though it was very interesting to see the ponies of Equestria form a fandom within the show itself, Even if it was meant to be a nitpick at both the mlp fandom and Brony community. I felt really bad for all the members of the Mane 6, Applejack was letting strangers live at her farm, Pinkie Pie was being inscincerely laughed at, Fluttershy kept getting pestered for not being assertive all the time, Rainbow Dash was basically being stocked, And Rarity's fashion empire was being boycotted, All because of the dumb friendship journal. But the facial expressions that were made in this episode were both creepy and hilarious, Like when Rarity lost her mind and made "stress couture" I mean I felt bad for her but the face she made when Twilight and Starlight visited her was funny. Anyway, I absolutely loved "Flawless" it instantly became one of my all time favorite songs in the series just as it became a fan favorite for many others in the fandom!

I think this episode would've been better if it'd shown both sides to the Brony fandom, instead of just 'all the adults are to blame, and the little girls are only TRUE fans.' Like, maybe in the midst of being overwhelmed by all the negativitity and overzealousness, the mane six found a group of ponies who made something constructive out of their love for the journal. Rarity inspires somepony to take up sewing, Applejack inspires somepony to start a garden, etcetera etcetera. Hell, the show ITSELF is essentialy fanwork.They could've had a real nice message about the pros and cons of what it means to be a fan of something, how not everybody will treat content or the creator with respect, but those who do could go on to create something even greater.

When I first watched this episode, I honestly thought it was a botched critique of celebrity culture, it wasn’t until I looked back on all the references to popular and unpopular opinions in the brony fandom that I realized it was supposed to be a critique of the fandom itself (which, even then, fails miserably, especially considering the final takeaway is “we know that our true fans are the little girls” despite the fact that many of those same little girls, including myself, had grown up with the show and were old enough to also participate in the fandom) I feel bad for M.A. Larson, he just wanted to make something that had genuine nuance, but Hasbro wouldn’t let him

Due to me being new to the fandom (joined back in July of last year), this episode, while I like it, also confuses me. Not in terms of plot or anything, but, it confuses me because every time I watch it I'm like "What was even the point of the episode?" I can't seem to find the answer. I always feel like something was missing in regards to the episode, but I can't exactly pinpoint what it is. I call this episode a "half baked enigma". MA Larson didn't deserve to be treated like crap from Hasbro and DHX (now Wildbrain) over his vision of what he wanted to write for this episode. I do find this episode funny, but sometimes, i feel bad for laughing while watching the episode. The song "Flawless" is a banger though.

This episode was odd. I can understand that the company wanted to respond to some of the criticism, but they did it in a we're totally right you're totally wrong way. This is never a good way to respond. How much better would it have been for the fans to meet the mane 6 and discuss their viewpoint. That's what a *_lot_* of reviewers and critics were doing at the time. There were a bunch of colabs to give multiple perspectives on points of controversy. How much better would it have been to reach out to the PonyTubers and the like and have a back and forth with them? Then release an episode based on that, maybe even let those people have their OCs in the show discussing those issues, obviously in a more simplistic and comedic way to keep all audiences entertained.

From what I remember of the song in this episode, it seemed to be trying to say that the characters' flaws were what made them work... Yeah, it just came off as Hasbro going "Oh, uh... the characters are SUPPOSED to be like that! They wouldn't work otherwise! You can't complain about these out of character moments because we can't remove them even though they don't work!" Mhm, nothing like refusing to address overlooked issues by claiming they were intentional...

The message of this episode is actually kinda based. If you feel like it somehow adresses you directly because of the references of certain brony groups... then you deserve it. Every fandom has its fair share of dumb idiots and this episode just points that out.

i've always hated this episode. even when i was younger when it came out and didn't really hate things, i really disliked it. i hate the way it ended too. like no resolution at all (if i'm remembering correctly)

Personally I really heated this episode, not for the controversy, but for bad story writing. It starts with Twilight making a decision to release her and her friends PERSONAL JOURNAL for the public, heck! Tia and Luna's journal was kept hidden for centuries. When this brings up backlash and controversy, the mane 6 sing a song ( honestly one of the best songs of mlp though) and end the episode with "atleast theres two ponies who actually see this book for what we expect others to see it as" and end the episode with ignore the haters, which works online but not when you have a LITERAL MOB of ponies outside your castle. And what about their reputations, like is nopony going to see them differently after learning this information. When half of ponyville is angry with you, those opinions and hatred dont just subside. Not to mention stuff only the mane 6 new, like Daring Do being real for example, that was Rainbow Dash's little secret, was there seriously no effect in the public knowing this?

One rather minor thing i disliked with this episode was that everyone gets to know that Daring Do actually exists since Rainbow met her and wrote about her in the journal, but in episode 21 of season 9 entitled "Daring Doubt" no one seems to know that Daring exists anymore.

Maybe they have bathrooms where they can wash up and stuff, but no toilets. Or perhaps "going to the bathroom" is an expression they use for going over to some lovely flowers and fertilizing them. This would mean that Rainbow is being stalked when pooping.
