Sin 137 is actually how things are in real life: Many bulletproof vests are distinctly not knife proof. There have been cases just like this, where people have been stabbed through a bullet resistant vest. Two possible explanations that I have heard: Kevlar is a little like that corn starch and water mix you can make that hardens when you hit it. A knife isn't going fast enough to harden the Kevlar, so it stays soft and easy to cut. So many things wrong with the idea of a purge... They don't even begin to get into white collar crimes, like identity theft. If I steal someone's ID, SSN, etc etc and go online and fill out an application for a credit card in their name during the purge, what happens? Is that person required to honor the card, and potentially pay any deposits or cancellation fees if they're accepted? Does the credit card company have to cancel the card? Also, how do you go about proving if a crime was committed during the purge or not? If I stole someone's laptop the day before the purge, all I have to do is say that I stole it during the purge and not before, how are they going to prove me wrong? EDIT: Also, if I go and hack into the DMV and change the info on my car's registration, is that honored after the purge? Like say it expires in December, but I hack and tell the system that my car is registered for another year without paying for it, does the government honor that change?

It makes sense in a way, guns are competitive market because of the Purge and people are willing to sell them like candy bars. A gun store is too armed to be a Purge target so everyone who can start up their business will get rich at the Purge Night's eve even if they sell ak's under cost of production you's ll refill with all the ammos you sell. I think hospitals would be fucked, drug addicts/dealers would be constantly assaulting hospitals and pharmacy's to loot meds. But prisons on the other hand due to the crime rate being almost zero because of the purge there wouldn't be a lot of prisoners and the few people that would be in prison would be locked down. I would think a prison would be a fairly safe place to be during the purge because there usually far away from populated areas and much more fortified then almost anywhere else you could find shelter. It's the method. Kevlar is lots of thin plates, designed to "catch" a bullet, by reducing it's energy. I knife would just shatter the plates. That's how armour piercing rounds work: Instead of being rounded, they are pointed, making a smaller exit wound, but being capable of piercing Kevlar.

Not *every* single important people can leave the country even during the purge, the nation needs to run and is susceptible to threats such as military invasion. Not everyone has the cash to take a vacation during that week, and a lot of people have properties they need to protect and look after and family members they cant abandon and a life, the purge is just 12 hours out of 300+ days in a year mind you. Also it wouldn't be strange to think that the government would enact policies that prohibit travel outside the US on it's own citizens perhaps a month or week before the Purge or make it more costly.
