The movie establishes that there are many "catwomen," including Selena Kyle. You even see Michelle Pfeiffer's photo in this movie and this video @11:06. I think the movie was trying to do a nod especially to the old TV show, where Julie Numar played Catwoman and then Ertha Kitt took over later on. I'm not sure, but I don't think the show ever explicitly stated that either woman was named Selina Kyle. That doesn't excuse this suckfest of a movie, though.

This movie was in a very weird position when it comes to continuity. It was supposed to be a Michelle Pfieffer Catwoman spin-off at first, so it would have been in the same continuity as the Tim Burton films. But then it became an unrelated film after numerous years of development hell and rewrites. It was released the year before Batman Begins, and I don’t think even the filmmakers knew what shared universe this would be a part of.

Dargonhuman I still maintain that if DC launched their cinematic universe with the Nolan trilogy Marvel would never have ever been able to catch up. It’s not even that hard to think of such a concept, I think it was Batman and Robin mentioned Superman and superhero crossovers have been a thing since comics began. Biggest missed opportunity in cinematic history, imo. Final crisis would wipe the floor with endgame (and I loved endgame).
