But he was Science Teacher Guy! That's some relatable bon-a feed-aas! I like that as an attempt at a legit science teacher, he has the class go through the Scientific Method on their way out. I don't like that he then forgets most of it, except noticing some obvious patterns, and just defaults to "I don't know". That's like Step 0 of the Scientific Method. This is most appreciated as a comedy. :-D

not really, even the ideas are retarded, like why the actual fuck would aliens invade a planet that is 75% covered in something that KILLS THEM, I mean fuck thats dumber then the "germs got them" ending of War of the Worlds, it would be like us going to Saturns Moon Titan without EV suits of any kind, and don't get me started on Unbreakable, I mean how the hell did he know the otherguy would survive before he started causing all those wrecks and other events? how did Glass learn about him never getting sick? it just doesn't add up.
@Craxin01
@Craxin01 5 жыл бұрын
@@DanielRichards644 Mr. Glass was causing mayhem hoping his opposite was there. How many tragedies did he cause before getting ONE who survived? The death toll could be thousands for one, and then he made some more or less educated guess about what could happen if this guy were genuine. Maybe he found someone else he though could be unbreakable, but enough holes opened up that he realized that one wasn't. We're focused on one man in that movie and there were a LOT of guesses. Try watching again, you'll see what I'm talking about.

@@christopherlewis1315 "The Lady In The Water" is B-A-D--- That's a slow paced film that tries to tell a relevant story, but just falls flat. At least "The Happening" keeps the story moving forward at a pace that doesn't put the audience to sleep. If Night intended to create a B-Movie type thriller, mission accomplished. Is the premise, plants turning on mankind, silly? You bet! Still, I can think of twenty films far more boring than this one. Watching Wahlberg actually play a role other than himself, is reason enough to watch this movie. Is it cheesy horror? Absolutely. That's a large part of it's charm. Eventually this movie will get the respect it deserves. On a 10-scale, I rate it a 6.7.

Theory: Whatever is "happening", happened before the movie even started, and damaged people's mind ever so slightly. It made people infected by it to act stiff, overreact and have no way to stop their impulses, as well as make them susceptible to paranoia. People started to have intrusive thoughts, those we all have but ignore, but they couldn't ignore them. People in tall places felt the "call of the void" and jumped before realizing what they were doing. The cop probably started thinking "what would it feel to shoot myself" and did it, the other guy picked up the gun and walked before having that same thought, then the lady saw two guys doing it and thought it could also happen to her, so she also shot herself. The survivors are people who, for their own brain configuration, didn't had these specific thoughts, but we see them act on other things we try to do on public or things we might consider idiotic. This would have been a great reveal if at the end, we could see someone outside the affected area acting like an actual people, trying to communicate with someone affected.

12:52 "Trees communicate with bushes etc..." bit. Fun Fact: Not actually as crazy as it sounds. Groves of trees will actually communicate with each other through what is called a mycorrhizal network. Basically a really cool fungus on their root system that allows them to share nutrients and water and even communicate distress from pest damage. Ex. If a tree on the outside of the grove is experiencing drought conditions but the center of the grove has access to moisture, the trees on the inside of the grove will actually send moisture through the mycorrhizal network to the struggling tree to help it survive. This is usually strongest between plants of the same species, but they have been known to form "alliances" with other species nearby.

@equinek9lover 4 жыл бұрын
@@nunureds837 agreed. Even if he just localized the event to a particular town or city instead of world wide it would make it more believable. Also poor script writing, instead of the plant guy coming off like a strange hippie he could have been given a higher field of study or credentials of some sort even and less vague lines presented in a better manner and it would have made plants talking to kill the human race ten times more believable. Also, the greenhouse scene still confuses me, it's a contained smaller area full of plants, you'd expect it to kill anyone that entered on the spot, are greenhouse plants suddenly sentient enough to become domesticated and not kill people?

Does anyone find that there is something genuinely unsettling about the concept of the film even though so much is ridiculous or just plain bad? So yeah, the acting is beyond awful, the leads are wooden and artificial. The plot dismisses all kinds of logic and reason in ways that spit on their own premise. It just plays out poorly in general. But the whole image of being in a large area that is beset with a plague, in a sense, is frightening. Being in the situation they're in, trapped and forced to try and escape on foot, not knowing what's going on and seeing people suddenly just switch personalities and kill themselves by the thousands, all help cut off and helpless to stop anyone from acting on their impulses... All pretty scary. Maybe they expected that sincerely scary idea to carry the movie and that's why they didn't bother to write it properly or hire someone who could deliver lines without acting like a kid who's trying to pretend he didn't smoke weed at a party.

I actually agree. In fact, personally I almost suspect the movie is borderline genius. Like M Night planned the entire thing to be so weirdly surreal with bad acting, non sense plot, warped people, unnatural reactions to events and other things and combined it with a simple but haunting score made it feel like there was a lot of things really really off with what was happening. Like the phenomenon was affecting the viewers. By not explaining it it helped spread the paranoia aspect (though I never really felt the paranoia noone turned on each other and there was no real hint of a conspiracy) and by throwing out alot of logic it made the whole sequence really unpredictable. Whatever it was trying to do essentially ended up failing as it wasnt all that scary and whilst it was rather funny it didnt really seem to try to be but there was a kind of unique feel to this movie I havent gotten with many others. If I was going to name it I would call it Confusion Horror.

@@LinksBetweenDrinks Well Val Kilmer definitely stole the show but other than that and the costumes i only saw Tombstone a bit above average. Nah I dont really think The Happening is genius it has a bit of a cult status but thats more for the weirdness and Walhbergs acting which was very off putting. Was it intentional? Dunno probably not but it did have a very surreal feel to it. Genius is going a bit far though yeah.

Lol no Bird Box might be a little overrated and not great but nothing compared to this piece of shit. Like Bird Box was just ok and mediocre maybe bad but this was absolutely horrendous. This movie finished in so much top worst movies of 2008. Bird box won’t even finish in the worst of 2018 maybe ovrrrated sure but not worst I’d take bird box 1,000,000 over Happening.
