Pixar's Soul was well-received and it's pretty creative and charming. But it has sins just like any other movie, so we counted 'em.
Next week: superhero sins and... romance/sports sins?
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we count next?

I was just about to comment this. I'm a percussionist, and sometimes my parts would have long, tiresome rests while the rest of the band would play. Sometimes, when this happened, I would legitimately lay on the floor and nearly fall asleep, counting the measures in my head. Sure, it was _very_ loud, but I surely would've fallen asleep if I didn't have a part to play. TL;DR: I confirm this statement with strong enthusiasm.

This was such a cliche nonsense for a movie that is supposed to be deep and dealing with death, afterlife, souls and etc. So the meaning of life is to live the way you want to and be happy and all that bullshit? Yeah right. Tell that to people who can't simply "live" their lives. Tell that to millions of people who died out of starvation, who didn't have parents and happy memories to go with them, who were poor, born and died on the streets, or were killed in pointless wars constructed by heartless politicians, tell that to people who are handicapped, or brain damaged, or blind, or whatever. There's perhaps a single digit % worth of people on this planet, who can just "live" their life the way they want to and be happy, and can make this a meaning of their lives. There is more to life than just living. But this movie doesn't talk about it, it doesn't talk about anything that is death related and actually meaningful. They avoid words like God like a plague, and redesign afterlife into a weird religious kumbaya land where all religions are kinda right but actually wrong, a version that no human on the planet actually believes. The crazy need to be inclusive with something as polarized as religion killed this movie, it makes it deep to absolutely nobody, because atheists do not believe in souls, and all people who do believe in souls, do not believe in what this movie does. And the lesson is a dumb LIE that can only satisfy depressed middle class western people who watch it, and is absurd for everybody else. In result, it teaches you nothing about death or life but pointless cliches. It is well animated and gives you a few laughs. But that's about all this movie accomplishes. I cry from laughter when I hear ppl say this movie is BOLD because it took on the death topic. This was the safest movie I've ever seen.

1:02: It's even worse. Instruments are not all in the same key. A flute and a clarinet are both written in treble clef but a flute is in the key of C while the clarinet is in the key of Bb. What this means is that if you write the note for middle C on a treble clef staff and ask the flautist to play it, they'll play the actual note of middle C, 262 Hz. The clarinet, however, while still reading the note as middle C, calling it middle C, and thinking of it as middle C, will play a note that is actually the Bb below middle C, 233.082 Hz. Thus, even all the instruments that are written for treble clef will not be playing the same notes. The flutes and the oboes (both in the key of C) will be playing the same note and the clarinets and trumpets (both in the key of Bb) will be playing the same note, but those two groups will not be playing the same note. French horns are usually written in treble clef, but they're in the key of F. You can't just write music on the chalkboard and expect all the instruments to be able to play the same thing. The instruments don't work like that.

Fun fact: it's the rope of the anchor that provides the most drag, reducing the speed of the ship and making it less likely to gain speed. The anchor itself is more to keep the rope taut. The one problem I had with the "Find your spark" theory was exactly what 22 went through! How does a soul earn its pass if the spark is to experience Earth in the flesh? To experience Earthly pleasures like tasting food which they canNOT do at the YouSeminar because souls can't taste or smell. Such souls will never get an Earth pass unless they accidentally land on Earth, like 22 did.

Finally someone else agrees Joe should've gone to the great beyond. When I told my family that he should have stayed there, they said I was a psychopath for wanting him to die. Like no I don't specifically want him dead, but the sacrifice he made doesn't mean anything anymore.
@sheelaflower
@sheelaflower 3 жыл бұрын
But him going to the great beyond would've gone against the lesson. He learned that it's important to enjoy life as is, but there's no real use in learning that message if he doesn't get a chance to execute it. It was a choice between the sacrifice not meaning anything and the entire point of the movie not meaning anything.
@PanSpaceman
@PanSpaceman 3 жыл бұрын
His sacrifice still counts in terms of he was willing to make that choice. Plus without it, the message ends up a little dull in-universe. Two souls learn the value in how to actually "live" life but one of them's about to be a baby with no recollection and the other is going to get bugzapped.
