Even better, he finally sees Packer for who he really is, and finally stops looking up to and trying to emulate him. I think for the longest time Michael thought he admired Packer, but it was only because Packer enjoyed having Michael reaffirm his gross behavior. Packer gave Michael the most acceptance and belonging he had gotten from anyone for a long time, the belonging that Michael so ardently needs. But being with Holly, Michael finally knows what true acceptance feels like, and it opens his eyes to his friendship with Packer. Packer only accepts him as long as Michael goes along with him, he doesn't actually see Michael as an equal.

The 'love is patient' scene is so beautiful. It was really brave for the writers to explore conflict in Jim and Pam's relationship in the last season of the show. Originally the intention was for infidelity to be the conflict and Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski (who were both producers on the show) really pushed back on that idea. That pushed the writers to reach for something that was more rooted in previous behaviors like Jim making big decisions without talking to Pam and Pam struggling to communicate her needs. The conflict felt more grounded in reality and the resolution felt more earned. They also showed the repair efforts Jim and Pam made. This scene in particular is one of my absolute favorites because it shows them wanting to connect upstairs as they're saying goodbye and then just missing each other. Then Pam sees the umbrella and decides to make one of those bids for connection by taking it to him. Initially Jim doesn't really respond to the bid, but then decides to turn toward Pam and respond with his own bid for connection with the hug. It's really vulnerable for him to hold on when she starts to break away, but he does anyway. Pam is struggling with accepting his efforts to repair because she hasn't felt seen or heard. She kind of resists the hug because you can see she's processing how she feels. She ultimately decides to accept the hug, but it's not because she feels like she should-rather it's because she wants to. They do all of that with very few words but you can see all of it on John and Jenna's faces. Their acting is absolutely incredible. The scene makes me cry every single time.
@MRDY4322Ай бұрын
If it weren't for Brian the boom guy this rough patch for Jim and Pam would have been perfectly executed. I love this storyline because it's so real. Every married couple gets strained at times and has to work through it. That's life. It also wasn't the first time the writers wanted to explore unfaithfulness in Jim and Pam's relationship. In season 8 when the staff went to Florida, the original plan was for Jim to cheat on Pam with Cathy, but luckily John Krasinski stepped in and refused to do it
@meme6314Ай бұрын
@@MRDY4322 I cringed at the part with the brrom guy too but i think that it really showed how unaware Jim was about Pam's struggles, so that someone who just watches her at work among other coworkers could pick up on how much she struggled while her own husband wasn't aware of it, Jim didn't really consider her side of things, he went to fulfill his dreams but she was left in the harsh reality with the kids and the fear of losing him, he was in the clouds while she was on the ground, then when he became roomates with Darryl we saw how messy and uncaring he could be and that made me imagine Pam's life with him, she's an orderly person, trying to take care of everyone, hence why her job was perfect for her, so since the moment they started living together, she surely had to take care of those little things that Jim probably didn't even pay attention to, we never saw her complain about it except when Darryl mentionned it (and that's part of the problem) but well, that was a thing on the back of my mind, and i guess all i'm trying to say is that the broom guy (actually i think his name was Bryan?) allowed us to see that Pam actually needed some consideration for those little things Jim didn't notice and seeing this side of Jim cemented the fact that these characters really weren't perfect, they felt so human and the wedding flashback really summed it all, love is the glue keeping them together and it forces them to try and be better versions of themselves

Jim and Dwight's relationship dynamic would actually be a fascinating video all on its own. Most people root for Jim by default, but the show steps back a couple of times to examine his treatment of Dwight critically and it really makes you reevaluate who the bad guy is there. But they are also there for each other in some crucial moments, so it's not completely toxic one way or the other. Dunno if it fits into the standard formats you've established, but it'd definitely be worth doing.

I'll always love the scene in the "complaint box" episode where Michael is reading Dwight's list of complaints of about Jim regarding all the pranks. One of my favorite moments in the show is Jim and Dwight going on a sales call together. They fight the whole way there, then they make the sale in a spectacular way, as if they were coordinated by a single brain, then they fight the whole way back. Ultimately, they feel like brothers who love each other, but the older one feels like its his duty to haze the younger, just to keep him from getting too big for his britches.

There are two reasons why I truly love this show: Jim & Pam: This is one of the most realistic portrayals of a committed, romantic relationship I've seen anywhere. Michael: In the first season of the show, Michael is very similar to his counterpart on the British version of the show. When the US version gained so much popularity, the writers realized that they couldn't leave Michael the way he was, because it would be too offensive and off-putting for a longer show. So following the first season, they changed Steve Carell's wardrobe, and started having him consistently learn lessons throughout the show, so that the character could grow over time. Alongside those lessons are the deepening of genuine relationships between himself and the other members of the office. As a result, when he departs the show, it's in an incredibly healthy place and his leaving is impactful.
@Zuldaar2 ай бұрын
A correction here: Throughout the series you get to understand that Michael does not and will not learn. He is constantly hearing what he wants to hear, and refuses to acknowledge when he's in the wrong. If you don't know what you're doing wrong, you cannot improve. I just finished watching the series about a month ago and I can only pick out 2 moments where Michael actually learned something: 1st when he was being absolutelly uncooperative as a co-manager, and got to appreciate Jim's help in taking some of the burden. 2nd: that one scene mentioned on top 1, in the Danger Level: Midnight watch party, everyone was 100% on board with not letting Michael know what they truly thought about his movie, because he does not handle criticism well. It's only Holly who doesn't lie to his face, and what does Michael do? Gets really, really upset. But then we have a moment of actual character growth where Michael calms himself down, accepts that his work is not what he envisioned to be, and now enjoys it with everyone else for what it is.

@@Zuldaar hmmm.. I can kinda see what you are saying, but I do see growth in Michael's character over the show. I think all of us change, and stay the same. My favorite character arc in the entire show is the Michael Scott Paper Company. It's such a great example of someone recognizing they to change their life, leave a role where they are unappreciated, and do something really risky that pays off in the end. I think that was Michael's biggest moment, and if he has little relapses later, that's realistic, too.

I appreciate that scene of Jim and Pam hugging before he leaves on his trip so much more now that I'm married. Tough stuff comes up, and sometimes even at the end of a healthy but emotionally draining conversation, there still isn't a resolution. But taking a moment to reconnect and reaffirm how we feel for each other helps move the focus from what we're disagreeing about to what we do agree on: that we love each other, we're on the same team, and we'll work to figure it out together.

What??? "The Office"??? What a surprise, thank You so much. Jim&Pam and Michael&Holly are the best.
@PearlsandRosesАй бұрын
Jim and Pam had a great relationship with each other, communicated and worked very well….with each other. They hurt a lot of people along the way to coming together. They were very manipulative to others, and communicated dishonestly with others, often times on purpose. They justified their actions by saying that all of that was because of how they felt about each other. Cute couple, TERRIBLE terrible love story. 👎👎

Jann and Scott's dinner episode is undoubtedly THE most uncomfortable experience in TV history for me. And I'm honestly glad they broke up because they both deserve happiness and they both find it with other people. Side note: I LOVE how dumbfounded Jonathan is when the sponsor part starts and Alan has changed shirts. Killed me when Alan just cut him off and started talking about the sponsor.

Off the cuff, I’ll say: 9: Ron and Tammy (and Tammy 1)- toxic, manipulative, incredibly unhealthy. 8. Tom and Ann (just lots of conflict and disagreements and just… neither are really ever happy) 7. Andy and Ann (some genuine affection, but also selfishness and enabling going on) 6. April and Andy (genuinely a good relationship for most of the show, but the early stages before they actually became a couple had a fair amount of not great behavior) 5. Donna and Joe (solid love and support, and good relationship growth for Donna) 4. Chris and Ann (good independent growth and development for both of them, which let them have an OKAY relationship the first time improve into an EXCELLENT relationship the second) 3. Jerry and Gayle (only because we see so little of their relationship on screen. As described and implied, it would be number 1) 2. Ben and Leslie (good growth and collaboration for both of them, shared goals, love and affection, and we also see them work through arguments and disagreements in a healthy way). 1. Ron and Diane (all the same great things, but I think we also see the good relationship ALSO come with a more significant shift in Ron becoming a better version of himself as a result of that relationship).

I think an interesting episode for you guys to cover would be exploring Michael's journey to find love and acceptance. Michael spends the entire series trying to be the boss everyone loves, and doing so makes everyone hate him, which makes him miserable. Yet by the end of his time on the show, he really does become the boss he always wanted to be

Seeing that stark contrast and watching some of your videos, then pairing those with months and years of the rebuild that was required due to the damage the jan type relationship gave, after an appropriate amount of time I found my holly...yes we are both incredibly adhd but in all best ways and our very odd shapes fit perfectly together and just like Michel and Holly it just makes sense. Some future office ideas: I would love a deep dive on Michael - can he be diagnosed with anything, what makes him tick, what would a therapy conversation look like etc? Also, Jim and Dwight would be a great side by side comparison - they're so different. They start by basically being enemies and ending up with Jim in Dwight's wedding party - it's a great journey to highlight. Even just one on Jim (and his constant pranks) would be interesting. Andy would be another interesting conversation. For example: it was one of Jim's pranks that caused Andy to punch a hole in the wall - what could have been done so it didn't reach that point (not just the obvious of Jim not pushing him to anger). What do you think about Andy coming back from his anger management retreat "cured", is that a reasonable expectation of anger management? What about his behavior throughout the rest of the series? Just some thoughts, great video guys! I'm glad you're doing some office stuff ^^

I thought of an interesting episode that would great but EXTREMELY complicated would be doing some kind of episode on Bojack Horseman. However, there are so many layers to it that it would need to be several episodes due to the average length of each Cinema Therapy video combined with the fact for both Jonathan and Alan would need to go season by season to explore the entirety of Bojack. Then, maybe some videos on other characters or sections of the show.

I fully agree with this list and all of your thoughts! It also really hit home when you mentioned how Roy doesn't see Pam and only is there for her when he wants to be, and that Kelly doesn't have the confidence to be with someone who chooses her, which clearly isn't Ryan. My 6.5 year relationship just ended for two of these reasons, and I hope to have someone in the future who chooses me and is there for me in the hard times, even when it's inconvenient.

I love the part near the end of the series when Jim shows Pam what she means to him through a DVD that has clips of many small, and some large, happy moments Jim has with her. In another room, Dwight is telling Jim he actually wants to be a committed relationship with Angela but has trouble deciding whether or not he should stay with the woman he's currently engaged to. Then Jim tells Dwight what he feels for Pam is what helps him handle difficult decisions.

Michael is a great boss! He truly cares about each worker, he let's Phyllis take 2 hour lunches, he approves time off no problem, he creates a fun environment which does up productivity because selling paper is soooo boring, he breaks up boring work with meetings, he creates a community. All work and no play equals low sales, that branch was consistently the highest selling branch.

Good take! Jan was great and the fact she had to deal with Michael’s harassment to the point of being blamed for it and then when she indulged she gets canned (yes she was slacking off but she was clearly depressed) will never not be a great way to showcase how female managers are treated.

jim and pam in the universe of the show, is a love story that really melted me when i first saw it. but in reality, it would SUUUUCK to fall in love at work and then be in a relationship where you live together and then work together too. ( just my opinion - i don't find that to be a good thing. i think couple's need daily time apart - so that they can come back together and have stuff to talk about) and also now, when i rewatch, i think it kind of s*cks that Jim eventually chose pam. cause she treated him badly for a long time. she strung him along, whilst betraying her fiancé and hurting both of them. and yet she felt entitled to jim as well, and got jealous when he found someone else. idk i really dont like pam upon rewatch. lol
