21:26 And there is more to it. In the original cut, Michelangelo went through a depression when they were at the farm, and the scene where he’s going at the punching bag went on longer to further show his frustrations. Also, it was originally him who was screaming for Splinter atop the farm, as you can clearly see his nunchucks.

Happy anniversary, Sean. For the record, at the time of the movie, Domino's actually had a policy where if your pizza was not delivered within 30 minutes, 3 bucks would be taken off the cost. If memory serves, that was discontinued shortly after when a driver was killed trying to deliver a pizza on time. Hope that helps.
@thefanwithoutaface81054 жыл бұрын
You forgot to mention the movie is actually the first time where Rapheal's character is fully defined. The tv series had already established Leo as the Leader, Donnie as the Tech Guy and Mikey as the goofball. Raph in the cartoon was essentially a snarkier version of Mikey and this movie is actually where they establish Rapheal as a hothead with extreme anger management issues. Which for me is a big deal since Raph has always been my favorite turtle.

Minor casting fact you might find funny, related to the error from the 1987 series shown at 3:40. In the 1987 series, Raphael was voiced by Rob Paulsen. In the 2012 series, Donatello (the turtle erroneously given Raph's voice in this scene) was ALSO voiced by Rob Paulsen.

In reference to the deeper character moments like with Mikey not being able to handle the thought of Splinter being gone, Raph gets a pretty good one to. When he takes down those to thieves but then gets into a fight with Casey over Casey wanting to hurt them more. I think it's just a great moment that the angry one who clearly like to fight is also the one that we see going "no, they've been dealt with, it's over, I'm not going to let anyone take this farther."

Thanks. Born in '65, I was an adult by the 80s, so I was never really into TMNT like that. But I can say that I *_did_* watch the reruns in the 90s, and I enjoyed them. There was enough adult-level humor to keep it interesting & fun. Too many of the toons nowadays are mindless yuck fests & gross-out humor - the dreaded LCD (lowest common denominator). Many of them look like they were designed for kids with ADHD. I was basically raised when Saturday morning cartoons were a big deal, and the Looney Tunes show was easily my favorite (and still is). Nobody makes them like that anymore! Only Animaniacs, or Pinky and the Brain come anywhere close to that level of sophistication. My stepson had an old VHS of the first TMNT movie. He's 35 now. Time flies. But I've never been interested enough to want to sit through a live-action version of the Turtles. Although, I did always wish there were TNMT pizza joints for real. That would be awesome! Pizza is my favorite food group. tavi.

Here's a funny twist... the actor who played Casey Jones, Elias Koteas, would then go on to have a gay sex scene in a convertible with James Spader in David Cronenberg's movie "Crash". To be fair, his character was bi as he also nailed Deborah Unger in a car wash in that movie.

I was only five when the first TMNT movie came out, and it wasn't even until later that I learned it was based on a comic-book series. It didn't really matter at the time, as both my kid bro and I were automatically hooked. We saw the animated series and first two live-action films on VHS, the third live-action film in theaters, and I saw a Ninja Turtles live-stage performance at one point in Tennessee. We even had the plastic toy nunchucks! And even more interesting, for better or for worse, was that the Turtles were my introduction to Japanese culture - which to this day I still show profound interest in, most particularly their cinema - even before I learned about freaking Godzilla!!! Also incredible was that I met Kevin Eastman at a Comic Con in Greenville, SC back in March 2019 nearly a year before Covid19 hit! Along with other comic-book artists like Frank Cho and Budd Root (I got their autographs), I was just psyched to see one of the creators of a very profound childhood influence! I wonder if I'll have the same feeling when I meet Frank Miller...

New Line Cinema didn't set out to make TMNT at all. The first film was made by Golden Harvest, then bought and distributed by New Line. New Line made the more cartoonish sequels, but aside from maybe some post production input, they were not involved in the making of the first one. Which is, as you note, basically a direct adaptation of the comics, with a few carefully selected elements from the cartoon.
