I don't blame Schumacher. He really wanted the movies to be as dark as the Burton ones, but apparently Warner Bros was the one that forced him to make the movie so goofy and cheesy. I honestly think Batman Triumphant could have been a major improvement.

In Freeze’s defense of the “Freeze in Hell” line, in Dante’s Divine Comedy, the final level of Hell is described as an ice field with people frozen in it. It also depicts Satan as having three heads (or at least three jaws) eternally chewing Brutus, Judas Iscariot, and I think Nero. So in a way, Freeze is accurate to at least something.
@JamesMC042 жыл бұрын
Judas (Traitor against God) Brutus (Traitor against the Empire) Cassius (Traitor against the Empire) - see Inferno, Canto 34, for details. Nero, if Dante were to put him in the Inferno, would probably in the 1st round of the 9th Circle, as a Traitor against his relatives - that is, in the lowest section of Hell to which his crimes condemned him. Dante did not live to see the re-discovery of the writings of Tacitus.

What confuses me even more about the soccer-mom complains with ‘Batman Returns’ was that it was initially age rated as PG-13, so it really wasn’t a children’s film to begin with since it was targeted towards teenagers. On a second thought, this is also the world where parents complain about kids playing violent games like Mortal Kombat, G.T.A and C.O.D despite those responsible at hand buying it for their own kids never noticing the Age Ratings on the front covers, so I guess oblivious parents are just willing to blame pretty much anything/ anyone else but themselves for their own mistakes and misjudgment. I am going to be honest here, this movie along with Batman Forever made me hate Robin until the 2003 Teen Titans animated series. I think the main problem was having an obviously adult man in the role and still writing him as if he was a rebellious teenage boy. I would be way more lenient with the attitude Robin in these movies had if he was between the ages 13 to 16 years old because that is already a tough time in your life and he was there when his parents died, but it looked like this Robin was in either his mid or late twenties. As someone who also loved what Batman the Animated Series did to Mr Freeze and hold him up as one of the perfect examples of a sympathetic villain, I was not fond of what they did to him. They wanted him to be a goofy dude who spewed bad puns about ice, but were also using the storyline that made him so popular with more modern audiences which didn’t work because to me Mr Freeze is usually meant to be more solemn and serious. The only time I saw adding some humor for Mr Freeze worked was in the recent Harley Quinn series and that was mostly because he was socially awkward and he retained his serious nature when it came to his work because he only cared about saving his wife. Even when I was younger and more lenient towards movies than I am now, I knew that Batman and Robin sucked.

@jw83958 жыл бұрын
Okay, first off, Schumacher is not entirely to blame for this film. He didn't write the story or the script, for one, and there was a lot of corporate meddling involved. Schumacher wanted to return to the darker tone of the first two films, but Warner Bros. was afraid that such an act would cause the film to flop at the box office, and since "Batman Forever" was such a big hit, they told him to stick to the formula he'd already used, and perhaps go a bit further. He reluctantly went along with it, on the promise that the next film, "Batman Triumphant", would be a dark and gritty film. The casting is average: Arnie was an odd choice, but George Clooney could have been a good Batman with the write script and design--his voice did kind of remind me of Kevin Conroy and I can easily see Clooney play the Bruce Wayne character. What we got was a guilty pleasure at best: Arnold is just having a ball, and he's so fun to watch, even though his dialogue is stupid. It's a bad movie, but it is enjoyably bad. I can laugh at the silliness here. I get no such feeling from the Batman v. Superman movie. It is a wholly terrible film. On top of bad acting, awkward casting choices, an all-over-the-place story, and uninteresting characters, it's straight-up BORING. Nothing about it was compelling or memorable at all. It was just shit.

Patrick Shields He made note that Schumacher apologized for the movie at the end of the video, which Schumacher did, but even Doug Walker (who hated the movie) noted that an apology wasn't really owed, at least not by Schumacher, since the movie's problems were not entirely, or even primarily, his fault.
@patrickshields52518 жыл бұрын
Cheapsunglasses the reason why i liked smeghead videos better than doug walker's was because, imo, he's much better at handling differing opinions unlike doug but that's just me, and yes i know it's only a comedy show. and i too hated the movie but i know why it was made the way it was.
@patrickshields52518 жыл бұрын
Cheapsunglasses okay, i went to your google plus and i'll be honest, i have the same problems with confused matthew as i have with doug walker, matthew to me, is a fucking psychopath, who has a seroius problems with differing opinions, but again it's just me.

They complained that Batman & Batman Returns were too dark and violent. Uhhh question, do they not understand the Batman character at all?

I just realized you played U2's "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" at a low volume for the clips for Batman Forever. That song is extremely underrated!
@petehill72808 жыл бұрын
To be honest, Schumacher originally wanted to make some darker Batman films, inspired by Batman: Year One, and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, but studio interference partially resulted in the more lighthearted tone of Batman Forever and Batman and Robin.

The main problem with the sequels to the original Tim Burton Batman movie is that the parents that complained were huge fans of the campy TV series of the 60s, and quite literally demanded the more contemporary movies be turned into the same thing. Don't get me wrong, I also enjoy the campy 60s TV series.... but it was a product of it's time. Once you realize that, it's okay to allow the newer version to be a product of IT'S time. Sheesh!

'Batman Returns' eventually got true sequels in the comics with the 'Batman '89' title which involved Billy Dee Williams's Harvey Dent becoming Two Face and parts of the scrapped 'Batman Unchained'/'Batman Triumphant' film becoming the 'Echoes' storyline. The comic made the wise decision to ignore the Schumacher movies.

Now gluten free!? Oh thank goodness, I thought I'd never be able to watch your videos again!!! My favorite part of Michael Keaton being Batman is that Keaton went to Kent State University, the college I recently graduated from. So, when people ask why I went to that particular university, I tell them "Because Batman is an alumni of Kent." This is an acceptable answer.

This is a guilty pleasure for me. I came into it with not too many big expectations about what the Batman lore is supposed to be. Plus, this one tickled my fancy since it was much lighter than the others. Plus, plus, Poison Ivy is DAMN HOT!!!

With regards to Alfred's condition making him look like he was in the later stages of the disease, I just chalk that up to him being well old. Nora was still relatively young when she was hit with the disease while Alfred was like in his 70s when he got hit, so it makes sense his body would weaken much faster.
