The funny thing is that Kate Mara didn't even need the wig. Most of the scenes she has it in are after the one year jump in time. That would be a reasonable amount of time for her character to get a haircut. It's not like her hairstyle played an essential role in the story lol

@@ian_b considering the way the movie takes itself wayyyy to seriously it still wouldn't save the final product with or without the wig, first of all why make the Fantastic four realistic? See any of their comics they are meant to be campy & corny they are meant to be enjoyed by everyone regardless of age why make them serious? Christopher Nolan when making Batman begins, did do research on Batman and found both his mission in life, his inner conflict & his villains and supporting charecters to be interesting and thought provoking and when he thought that something he did not knew about the charecter he brought someone who actually knows about the charecter more than him , The Dark knight while more realistic did take insperation from The Long Halloween comic story among other Batman story , he knew about the charecter and brought him to the big screen; this movie feels like they just saw the realistic aspect of The Dark knight and just made a movie based around it.

The other actors I don't think were hurt much but Jordan was at least cast in Black Panther and had the positive backing of Creed. If his name is ever brought up now, F4 is rarely mentioned at all. When he came out on stage with the Black Panther cast at SDCC I actually forgot he was in F4.

This abomination of a film was exremely loosly based on the Ultimates comic book version of the Fantastic 4, that comic was interesting but extremely flawed as well (not as much as this film is though). In that comic "It's Clobbering Time" was something Ben Grimm's High School American Football Coach used to say to pump his team up for a game. That explanation works and it was expalained in one line, it still worked better than Fant4stic's explaination. Another KZbinr "The Blockbuster Buster" made an interesting explaination of what would make a good Fantastic 4 movie, Merge Disney's and Pixar's "The Incredibles" with "Doctor Who" do it well and you will make a good movie. I agree it would make a good movie if done right.

They need to quit tying his creation to that the Fantastic 4, and give us the actual Doctor Doom. Really, they should have starting building toward Doom after the end of the Infinity Gauntlet bit, making Doomwar, the conflict between Wakanda and Latveria as the next big thing. I can’t wait until the 2nd Look review, since the Polygon piece on Josh Trank sheds more light on what went wrong. For instance, the reason the third act seems so rushed is because Trank lost interest in completing the script once he got to the point where the four got their powers. Also, co-writer Jeremy Slater quit early on because Trank was locking him out of discussions with the studio. On a more positive note, Trank wanted BOTH Sue and Johnny to be black, but Fox rebuffed him.

I studied some lighting design in theater and I think the reason for making it dark in the laboratory is simply to set a mood of serious, dramatic tension. Still, it's a laboratory. You need bright lights. You can have bright lights and still set a dramatic, tense mood. Make the furniture and equipment white, have them dress in darker colors, add a tint to the camera; I'm not a film expert (studying theater, it's different), but I'm at least trying! More than most of the people who worked on this film, anyways. I never understood how people can screw lighting up so much in movies. Yes, lighting can be a major pain in the ass, but in a lot of cases, it can either make or break a film. For example, in Moulin Rouge, they shine a blue light on Satine during her introduction because blue light on pale skin gives a shimmering, glowing look; aka, The Sparkling Diamond. It was beautifully done, she was under a spotlight so all eyes were focused on her, and it was a terrific entrance for this character. But in Twilight, because all the vampires are pale and sparkle in the sunlight, they SOAK the movie in blue to achieve that shimmery look. Almost every scene has blue lighting or a blue filter, and it makes everyone who ISN'T pale and/or a vampire look like they're dying or freezing. I couldn't even finish Twilight because it gave me a headache! That, and my DVD literally spat it out halfway through.

as a graphic designer and film enthusiast(and amateur photographer) I can tell you that the movie uses the low key to have a "somber" and "realistic" theme to the movie...at least it attempts to have them...it's also obvious by how the plot makes the main character miserable or something like that (even if in real life they are just egoistic fu*ks)... this also mix the usual "blue-orange" color grading (pretty much the only color grading in use at hollywood...), giving everything "lotta" blue tones and few orange tones, that actually kinda feels out of place now and do not give the supposed "warm and likable" response... the fun part is that the low-light was all post-production of shots NOT really ment, probably, for a Low key take. I think that because every setting never use contrast between light and dark, so they ARE normally lit, but they just lowered the brightness of the scene in post... Light is the paintbrush of photography, and this movie fails hard at using it...
@HanaBakemono8 жыл бұрын
Ah, thank you for popping in to help me out! And for using better wording than I ever could XD Theater is so much different than film, but I do agree with your lovely quote of light being a paintbrush to photography. Still, they didn't need to make the entire mood of the film somber, dramatic, and realistic to begin with. It's the Fantastic Four! How does a multi-million production team screw up so badly? Then again, they did give the poor actress a cheap wig, so I guess I just answered my own question.
@1r0zz8 жыл бұрын
HanaBakemono lights can make or break a scene in photography, cinema and, I bevile, in your area of expertise: theater. about the production of the movie I can even make some hypothesis: as of now, thanks to some huge "seller", movies are really conceived as "products". not narrative. the problem is that not all directors are able to just do "wage-work"...and when you put in different ideology clashing between eachother you have the recipe of a shitty product. the "seriousness" attitude of this movie is just that. clashing of different ideology, production and market trends... it could be that the director wanted to make an "adult" story about comic books heroes (showing his childishness), because he is supposed to be "visionary" or something (like Snyder...). or it could be that they just decided that in a "creative sterile environment" after a inquiry showed that 58% of a random group of people answered in the Focus Group wanted a "serious movie"... as someone who studied advertisement, I can tell you that Focus Groups and Market Research on "active" consumers, easily produce alienated and distorted results... the example of the focus group on the question: "would you want a serious superhero movie or a fun superhero movie" the subject of the inquiry can very well answer completely differently that what he actually thinks. especially on a socially "embarrassing" question like that. answering, in a group of people, that he would like a fun superhero movie can make him be afraid of being perceived as "childish" or "not serious" person. of course producers ignore this, and just shove those statistic into production with a zealot faith in them. failing hard many times...like in Fant4stick. on the wig: I guess they just stopped caring and wanted something, possibly "more decent" than what they had, to release...

Sting SniperScope but the problem is not really the theme of the shot, is that they took normal sets and then forced a color palette on it, or at least this is what it seems. even if in my photography I tend to have preference on bright colors, I too appreciate darker and more contrasted shots. but this movie didn't really used the palette well...

Thank you for pointing out that the four actors aren't in the same shot together until the end (Sue is in the control booth in separate footage). If I were to do a Marvel FF film, it'd be them on a ship exploring when they come to a planet and get into some adventure dealing with locals. The Guardians could even cameo at one point even though that'd take away from the main characters who are yet to have their own movie without sucking. The Four were not just superheroes who go out and fight evil but were seekers of truth and knowledge and would often stumble onto man-made problems. Therefore, don't give them a direct villain but just a mysterious situation to explore and get caught up in.

So I can guess that if MJ were Black and Peter were still White, they'd scream the same thing. Whoops. Never mind the fact we never hear this type of outrage whenever it's a Black man going out with a White chick or a Black man going out with ANYONE else. But when its a Black chick, it's suddenly a 'problem', but it's problems that people don't seem to bat an eye at when they apply the same logic on something else. After all, everyone is asking for diversity but I guess there is still some 'wrong' diversity ie, stuff the actual racist who pretend they aren't racist don't want to see.
@goldyd1448 жыл бұрын
Super Cosmic Mutant Honey Candle Squid Oh, believe me - I know of that. There's a very vocal minority of black people (and white people) who view a black woman dating a white man as wrong, but not the other way around. I guess it's because a black man dating a white woman is him "showing freedom and disolving racial tension", or some BS. The whole thing screams of hyocrisy if you ask me. However, the biggest argument that I've heard against black women playing white characters is that "it erases their iconic look!" Hence, my comment. I'm well aware that it swings both ways.
@SuperCosmicMutantSquid8 жыл бұрын
Daezy Gilder In most cases like that, when the movie proves good and the actor shows they can carry the role (including working with the iconic look) it usually shuts a lot of people up. Things like Fury proved this (thought he is also Ultimate Fury but for general movie-going crowd he is the main Fury now and the only Fury they are familiar with). I've just noticed that when the movies are shit and the people behind the movie are shit they ALWAYS, ALWAYS jump behind the race of their actors as a shield to protect them from, often well deserved, call outs for their lack of tact and professionalism.

Old video was old but I will comment anyway. The issue with Jordan's casting wasn't that he was black but two other issues: First, that he was hired without an audition. He and Teller would frequently got to parties and events with Trank. The director, in essences, hired his friends. Yes, I will admit that there was some hoopla about Johnny Storm being black, but that didn't really last that long especially when his roles like Chronicle and the fact that he was the lead in the (at the time) upcoming Creed movie were brought up. People then went to speculate about which Black actress would try out for Sue Storm. Then the second issue came into play, which was why were the siblings of different races. Before the announcement, people had been hyped at the idea of an interracial couple. Of a strong black superpowered female in a healthy relationship with a white superpowered man. I mean there was a lot - emphasis on lot - of people actually hyped for that. So when Mara was announced as Sue Storm, a lot of people were confused as to why make Johnny black. This issue everyone had was that if you were going to race-bend, they shouldn't have gone halfway. All the Storms should have been black. The sibling relationship between the two was seen as 'fake' because Johnny's adopted (again fans theory was he was the adopted one). Plus fans got even angrier when it came out that the studio was the one to pick Mara, so many saw the study as being racist for hiring a white girl because they didn't want to portray an interracial relationship on screen. Also, before I get blasted with hate comments, female black F4 fan and I remember trolling the boards looking for new info on this movie. It's pretty sad that people chock the issue to racist fans when the issue is that the studio execs were doing stupid crap instead.

that the way I was remembering it too. Not to mention at the time (and still happening) both in comic and in movie they were gender/race swapping just to please the dirt sheets constantly. Not to mention changing a character sexual preference just cause instead of creating likeable new character. This cause many to grind the teeth whenever it happen. Now saying that. There been good story with actors and characters that been swap but the constant readjusting just don't sit well with the community that enjoy those characters for Decades!. Now comics are down and people moving to manga cause of it and we will see if that also play out in film. With that being said and not having watch this version but having watch trank work in chronicle which I like and seeing some of the review which say the first half was actually good. I am willing to give trank the benefit of the doubt about his decision and I would had like to had a black storm if they were going to gender swap

Considering this review came out in 2016, we at least have a proper chance of getting a GOOD Fantastic Four film that feels like a light-hearted MCU project, but without the Skrulls who have already appeared in Captain Marvel, Secret Invasion (less said about the most disappointing MCU entry, the better), and The Marvels, and Namor was the main villain of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (even in the initial draft when Chadwick Bosman was still alive)

What pissed me off most about this movie was that there were some moments where they almost accidentally stumbled onto some interesting character development. The conversation between Reed and Ben after Reed is recaptured where he apologizes for leaving, and a scene between Johnny and Sue where they briefly debate whether they should be using their powers to work for the military planted seeds for some interesting ideas and could have made for something worth watching if it were in a better movie.

Smeg, please, don't try to use the whole racism thing. Nick Fury worked both because Samuel is a great actor and because Nick was black in the Ultimate version. @Derah_OG8 жыл бұрын
Those who complain about the changing of a character's race ARE doing it out of racism. A character can be played by an actor of a different race successfully if they do it right. Take the shitty Daredevil movie for example. Total PoS, but the actor they chose for the Kingpin was a badass motherfucker. Changing a character in an ADAPTATION from black to white, or white to black isn't automatically the end of the world. But some people act like it is. Plus there's the hypocrisy in freaking out over a black man playing Johnny Storm in Fant4stic, but when a mexican woman in a wig played Susan Storm in the previous 2 movies, nobody gave two shits about it.

Is it so hard to cast a POC? No. Plus, there's hardly enough superheroes who are POC as it is. In contrast, there are literally *thousands* of whte ones. Casting a black guy as Nick Fury isn't going to hurt anyone. Casting a white guy as Black Panther, a superhero whose *entire identity revovles around his blackness*, is a slap in the face to the creator of the original comics and black people.
