M Lkš To be fair, 15 takes the spirit of what I believe is the Ultimate version of the series which does have the crew as young teens/ young adults but that version was a lot more eventful and enjoyable. Everything about 15 seems like Trenk was making the sequel to his own movie than anything that was FF related, even in the alt versions.

I remember reading that Peyton Reed had a pitch for a Fantastic Four movie that would have been set in the 1960s and basically been a direct adaptation of the first few Fantastic Four comics. He apparently even designed a mock up poster for the movie that he included in his pitch that was just a recreation of the cover of Fantastic Four #1

Hey Smeggy, I have both special editions of the Tim Story FF movies and I can confirm that the Kerry Washington/Alicia Master scenes were filmed and are in the deleted scenes features. In those scenes, Alicia showed Ben her collection of artwork and told the story of how her father taught her how to sculpt which would later go on to have a scene where Alicia more or less treats Ben's wounds and makes him feel more like a person. Not being at all funny here but it is a scene that SHOULD have been in the movie because it showed someone treating Ben like an actual person since the accident, even if she is blind. It should be noted as well that Washington's character would be brought over in animated for in the Moonscope continuation of the movie series and they would later bring back Puppet Master and they make the fact that they are related an important part in his debut episode as he asks her to join him, going so far as to try to emotionally black-mail her by reminding her that he loves her more than anything and nothing would stop that, even if they are not related by blood. 'A gigantic, galactic space anus'......so......Goat.se?

Looks like I owe Jessica Alba an apology. All these years, after seeing these movies, I thought she just couldn't act. Now I see it was the director tipping his fedora as he asked her to "cry pretty". A real director, like Stanley Kubrick, would have forced her to do the same scene 100 times until her tears were real. Sure the man was as much crazy as he was a genius but he got the shots he wanted.

Honestly, that comparison made me think of how different superhero movies were even a decade ago. Quite frankly, the early-to-mid 2000s now feel oddly nostalgic. The movies of that time wound up creating trends that have ultimately become tiresome (more edge and angst, over-reliance on established franchise names), but the days of LOTR and Spider-Man are still practically a world away from now. At the time it was arguably just what we all needed considering what the big movies of the mid-to-late '90s were - Independence Day? Armageddon? The Lost World? Twister? The Phantom Menace? Godzilla? I'll pass.

On the subject of Victor going into space with them, my guess is it's a protecting investments kind of deal. The project could have serious benefits that would make Doom so rich he could buy several countries and help his company make several scientific breakthroughs, atleast according to Reed. Naturally it's crazy expensive and Victor wants to make sure it goes as well as possible. So it makes some sense.

For what it’s worth, I actually DO like the 2004 Fantastic four movie. Sure, it’s not Endgame ; but as its own self contained thing it’s pretty enjoyable. That being said, I’m a HUGE fan of the Cosmic Marvel stuff, and needless to say, what Silver Surfer did to Galactus does nothing short of piss me off. I will give it credit for two things: Laurence Fishbourne/Doug Jones’s performance as the titular Silver Surfer, and having the good sense to not ruin Nick Fury for the following year’s Iron Man by having an original character in the Clonel.

While The Lone Ranger is pretty bad, it's not all bad. The action and visuals are great (nominated for an Academy Award) and the acting/chemistry between Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer is a lot of fun to watch. I hope the two get together more often. But the story is bland, it goes on for to long and half the humour didn't work that well. It's a shame the movie wasn't as good as it could've been. I wanted to see them make a franchise out of this like Disney were planning (much like John Carter only that films actually good). So yeah, Sean should review it.

Well, at least it's better than the 2015 version. But man....they really fucked up the Silver Surfer and Galactus' characters in the sequel.

Neo-Xgray87 Eh, I haven't read the comics, but I agree that they're both better than the 2015 one. Heck, Fant4stic is the only movie I've ever seen that legitimately bored me.

funcoolfunfun You're telling me. And I only knew about the Fantastic Four, by watching them team up with Spider-Man, Storm, Captain America, Iron Man and the Black in the 1990's Spider-Man animated series and then later on in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Rise of the Silver Surfer is a huge guilty pleasure for me and, truth be told, I find it a little underrated. But yes, the problems still remain and Sean pretty much nailed most of my thoughts on it. Feel free to check out my review here: letterboxd.com/dvass91/film/4-rise-of-the-silver-surfer/ The first Tim Story movie, however, is fucking garbage - it's worse than The Phantom Menace, in fact (YES, I FUCKING SAID IT, COME AT ME, BITCHES!!!) - and almost killed my love for the Fantastic Four. For 2/3 of the movie the Four sit on their asses and waste our time until the climax when they fight Doom. And that's the reason why I won't ever bother with Fant4stic - because both it and the 2005 version are essentially the same film in terms of structure. It really is sad that Rise of the Silver Surfer is the best Fantastic Four movie we've got, but I'll take what I can get.

I don't remember if the second movie did this, but the main thing I remember about the first one is the absolutely balls-out insane amount of product placement they crammed into it. It actually puts Michael Bay's The Island to shame, and that's goddamn saying something.

I heard that the makeup effect for Doom, after he stops being a statue, at the beginning didn't turn out well. The studio thought that it looked too gruesome for young audiences, so they got the makeup artist to keep changing it and in the end apparently all the changes made it look like something from a bad Power Rangers episode.

I think if the Fantastic Four ever goes through *_yet_* *_another_* reboot, maybe they should just do what Marvel had done with Incredible Hulk and will do again with Spider-Man: Skip the origin story, just get to the point. Show them already with their powers, and already in action as the FF.

The only thing wrong in this video is that the Fantastic Four are not and never have been 'Super Heroes' in the classic sense. They are explorers who get into trouble and use their powers to get out. That has been their thing since day one. If they happen to save the world then so be it, but it's usually because they caused whatever it is that is threatening the world, or at least discovered it.

Galactus has unknown godlike abilities depending on the amount of planets he has consumed. The Silver Surfer though has a specific set of powers. He can survive in any environment, He can fly in any environment (gravity or time doesn't effect him in space), He doesn't need to breath/eat/sleep/drink, has the most powerful healing factor shown in the Marvel Universe and can absorb/re-direct energy or use his own "power cosmic" for energy shields/Energy Beams/ Energy Blasts etc. There are other powers that have shown up from time to time, for "The Almighty Lazy Writer Plot Convienience" then disapearing (Like Superman's), but these powers that I have listed are the Surfers basic powerset that hasn't changed since his creation.

Apparently, Galactus was made a cloud by order of then Fox CEO Tom Rothman (not the first bone-headed idea he had during his tenure). In fact, some pre-production artwork had him look closer to his comic book image: i.imgur.com/Smp8yEF.jpg
@tedgruver7618
@tedgruver7618 4 жыл бұрын
From what I learned from Midnights Edge, Tom Rothman had Galactus turned into a space cloud instead of an enormous humanoid because he believed that audiences wouldn’t want to see giant robots. Little did he know that in spite of having Michael Bay as director, Transformers (which was released the same year as Rise of the Silver Surfer) would prove him wrong.

1. We're assuming the Surfer knew all along a hundred percent that would work. If he's wrong, he loses the people he cares about so it's one hell of a risk to take. In the same way the comic version sees life as unimportant at first, faced with a seemingly all powerful entity only his family matters. This is similar reasoning to Tony initially not doing the Endgame time heist. 2. Few people are prepared to die for a bunch of people they haven't met. Hell, we won't recycle properly for a bunch of people we haven't met.

I will always go down swinging insisting that the first of these was a perfectly good Fantastic Four movie that had name stars, the effects were fine for the time and it was in the same look and style as the Spider Man's at the time. The comic was silver age goofy and the FF was never a dark and gritty comic (see the newest one to see how that went). Yes, Alba had no chemistry at all with Gruffudd (they acted more like brother and sister), but Alba always had that trouble in movies, despite being so attractive. Yes, they spend a lot of time arguing and pranking, but that is kind of in the spirit of the comic. And the plot actually made sense. Von Doom went on the mission because he knew Reed was a genius and wanted to take credit for any discovery he made. And his plan to neutralize the Thing by giving him what he thought he wanted was actually pretty good! But Fantastic Four fans I think just had some version of a movie in their heads that is unrealistic or cannot be captured by studios. They want it fun..but not too fun. Von Doom to be the "BEST villain ever!", but cannot say how exactly that should be accomplished. This movie was the best I think you could ask for, and it was not excrement at all. It was a very solid comic book FF movie.

I've always been annoyed by "As you already know..." exposition. As a seven-year-old, I remember recoiling at an Enid Blyton book, I can't remember which, but I remember the expository monologue practically word for word to this day. The intrepid kids are on the trail of a shady underground group, but they don't know what they're up to yet. However, they are holed up in the castle when the lead baddie says to his trusted lieutenant, "As you know, we've invented this new explosive. It's called Stellastefany..." and it goes on from there, telling the minor heroes everything, so they don't need to find anything out for themselves.
