This is a beautiful composition Frank. You have very good skills writing for woodwind instruments (the breaths, melody, phrase, how you articulate) The placement of the woodwinds and the space is very natural. It would be great if you make someday a walkthrough (how you eq etc).

Thank you, Theo! These fantastic instruments really have no need to hide behind other instruments. I am amazed at how lively and authentic they sound for their specific lines. My compliments go to Alex Wallbank, the developer of the library. On a sidenote: I didn‘t use the readymade mic mix. The warm presence and simultaneous capability to blend perfectly with the strings is due to the chosen combination of OH and Main mics.

Lovely Composition, did you use any plugins on the mix bus?
@francolupo23 Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Louie! I make an effort to limit the use of additional plugins in order to preserve the library's natural sound. Moreover, I am truly impressed by the meticulous execution of the microphone positions in this library. They offer a remarkable degree of flexibility and deliver an outstanding sound experience.

@@francolupo23 You're welcome! That makes a lot of sense to do, I agree with that approach fully. I only own the cinematic studio brass, but they are incredibly and offer much mixing flexibility/ control

What are your reverb settings here? Also, for the woodwinds, how do you set your mic positions? This all sounds great!
@francolupo233 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Steven! What I remember right off the bat is that the microphone choice was more important for the sound than the exact reverb settings. I used the Scoring Stage reverb from Seventh Heaven.

@@francolupo23 Is the sound of the berlin soloists acceptable? I wanted to buy it, but I‘m not sure if it is a better choice than CSW. Kind regards! Moritz
@francolupo233 жыл бұрын
@@motu9741 Hi Moritz, thanks for the question. Berlin Woodwinds Soloists are definitely among the best libraries out there. I’m a bit reluctant to say which ones I think are the best. It might be a good idea for me to do this piece again, but this time using Berlin Soloists. That way you could compare them directly.

@@arsinbadik I created sends from the tracks that go to an aux track and brought up the send levels, adding as much reverb as I liked to each track. Generally, the levels for the woodwinds are the same. For the strings too, but lower because of the natural releases of the CSS instruments

The only thing I would complain about is that I can’t hear the bassoon at all. Other than that, very beautiful arrangement regardless.
@francolupo233 жыл бұрын
Arianna, thank you for your comment. I appreciate your feedback. In the part starting at 0:56 the bassoon blends beautifully with the English Horn. When you take the bassoon away there, the sound of the melodic line changes entirely. The bassoon is best heard at 1:59 for about seven seconds. Later it also blends with other instruments. But I do see your point. Compositionally, I could have reserved more time for the bassoon to shine on its own.
