Considering that I cut out family members for less(we're good now) I think them beating me up would happen just once... Also got my appendix removed this summer. It feels so GOOD because the 6 months before that I felt really miserable. And I would go through anesthesia any time(this film looks soporific too but not in a good way!)

There’s a way to make people getting physically punished funny. The Three Stooges made careers out of it practically. But you need to frame it right. Vince getting brutally beaten by his brothers, that’s not funny that’s gross. Him being in pain is not in an of itself funny. Why do so many “comedies” not understand the distinction?

This movie feels like right-wing "pro-family" propaganda, romanticizing toxic familial relationships so people don't break off relationships with toxic family members, and telling them to get married and start popping out babies because "you'll change your mind one day." Bleah. First off, toxic relationships need to end, blood-related or no. If they didn't want to get cut out, they shouldn't have been toxic. Second, you're far more likely to regret having kids young than the opposite. And I can tell you from experience, being forced to interact with kids does NOT make you want to have kids more. You want a real "pro-family" message, watch the Fast & Furious movies. Dumb, sure, but they still understand that a healthy family isn't based on blood relations.

Snyder has two screenwriting credits to his name: “Stop! I lived in the Los Angeles area for 30 years; I have lost count of the times people in movies do something that makes *no sense* in relation to L.A. geography. Bonus item: I have also lost track of the number of times some lesser known L.A. landmark has appeared in a film not set in L.A. The most egregious example is a bridge over the L.A. river that appears in a frankly ridiculous number of films. (Given the number of films you’ve reviewed, you have 100% seen said bridge.)

Thanks for letting non Bay Area residents in on the boo boo! I happen to work in TV news and while it does depend on the station, it's likely they wouldn't even have had a morning broadcast on Christmas Day - many often go to a yule log for the morning and early afternoon and do a news report in the evening. Regarding the baby news, yes, they would have to receive permission from the family to bring a camera in the room and interview the couple. No one is allowed to just walk into their rooms even if it is the first baby of the new year! Moms usually like to pretty up first before the cameras start rolling.

I feel like having Mike Lindell's pathetic attempt at a documentary winning the 2020 award is a copout because of the fact that "Absolute Proof" came out IN 2021, I know 2020 was a slow year for movies, but even I know there was still plenty of shit that was released, in fact one of them that should've won instead was Artemis Fowl, which failed immensely at faithfully adapting the books to film, I mean the titular protagonist wasn't a hero from the start, he gradually went from being a villain with his own motivations to eventually becoming a hero who still steals some shit because the people he steals from are way worse (kinda like Arsene Lupin and his Japanese grandson)

Fellow Bay Area boy here, and I too await the agonizingly slow process for my hometown of Livermore getting its own BART station to end. My brother and I watched this one YEARS ago, and we treated it like a travelogue of all of Northern California. I recall we nailed Vince's mom (giggedy) as living in Humboldt County (major hippie country) and Reese's mom living in the Central Valley. And it's a Christmas miracle they visited all 4 parents in one day, what with traffic around here.

As a fellow Bay Area Native, I find ridiculous how many movies have screwed up it's geography. The most famous is THE GRADUATE which would have you believe that Berkeley is at the West bound end of the Bay Bridge. Also the 2000 film BOYS AND GIRLS had the same mistake as this movie where it implicated that some airport is at the north bound end of the Golden Gate Bridge. Of course that film implied that both Marin and Haight Asbury are walking distance from the UC Berkeley campus so "space is warped and time is bendable.". lol

I have a similar quibble about the ARCHER episode/homage-to-BULLIT where Sterling and Lana visit her parents with the new baby AJ, and Lana's mom teaches at UC Berkeley, but they apparently live north of SF, judging by the car chase scene on the Golden Gate Bridge going INTO the city.

And Ralphie (real name Peter Billingsley) was an executive producer (aka put his own money into the budget) on "Iron Man". So, in a way, Ralphie alongside Favreau helped kickstart the MCU. Oh, and Ralphie also had a brief role as "Ming Ming" in Favreau's Christmas classic "Elf".

If $160 million was double the production budget, that means this movie, which is mostly just about people doing Christmas things in houses and driving around, cost $80 million to make! What did they spend all that on? Actors' salaries? A shoot that took way longer than expected? Cocaine? The budget of several other movies rolled into it via the magic of Hollywood accounting? I thought 2001's Town & Country was the undisputed king of ridiculously over-expensive romcoms, but apparently not. People bemoan the near total death of cinematic romcoms (though the genre persists on streaming), but I'm generally glad we no longer get these massively budgeted attempts at wacky-but-prestigious romantic movies with huge casts of big name actors.

Just a small error, Brad and Kate live in San Francisco. The Golden gate Bridge goes north to Marin County. Why are they crossing the Golden Gate Bridge when you can drive down the 101 Bayshore Freeway from San Francisco the Airport and never cross any bridge. Also, SFO is in San Mateo county south of San Francisco and inland on the west side of the bay. It gets fog but not like that.

That movie is paying homage to the Marx Brothers, and that happened in one of their films. I believe it was Horse Feathers. Groucho is "teaching" a class, and he has a picture of human anatomy, when Harpo sneaks behind him and puts up a picture of a woman. Groucho remarks, "Now on closer examination...this NEEDS closer examination. In fact, it needs a nightgown. Take this picture down right now, and put it up in my office."
