i love how this show is pretty dark just looking at it on face value, but the deeper you look the worse it gets. Like how quicksilver says in the halloween episode "so, where were you keeping all these kids". As if Wanda was just keeping all the kids locked away in shut-down mode the whole time. And the people on the edge of the town just being on a short movement loop. WandaVision is by far the darkest part of the MCU so far. Especially when we realize that all the citizens of Westview are aware that they´re trapped.

I feel the more you watch it the sadder it gets, particularly her relationship with Vision. She created this to "get him back" but controls his every move, gaslights him when he deviates and actually doesn't spend that much time with him! He's at work (even on Saturdays) and away from her for most of the episodes. I was confused by how well he takes it but I suppose by the time he gets back to Wanda he is aware he isn't real. Also, they absolutely nailed the costuming for the 50s, right down to the underthings! Wanda is very clearly wearing a girdle, petticoat, and bullet bra in the first episode, something that you might not pick up on consciously unless you’re familiar with the 50s silhouette and how it was achieved. Her dinner dress (the one with the bow on the front) even looks to be either a true vintage garment or a wonderful reproduction, and I immediately recognized Agatha/Agnes’s plaid dress to be from British Retro UK, a brand that perfectly replicates vintage clothes. Absolutely outstanding detail! (The only thing I have *slight* issue with is that I wish Elizabeth Olson had adopted a transatlantic accent for the first episode- that very 50s, flowy and lilting way of speaking that you see in old movies. It would have made the delivery of “Vision, help him” in her *regular voice* feel so much more jarring!)

There was no other person Marvel could’ve cast that would’ve kept the audience wondering whether that Pietro was real or not. The way it looked like to me was in the first couple of episodes, Wanda was still getting used to the hex and understanding it. I don't think when she created the hex it was entirely conscious. I don't think she was thinking "I want to live in a sitcom TV show with my roboyfriend and episode this and this is gonna happen". When she first sees the new Vision she looked genuinely shocked. I think she just wanted an escape, she wanted her normal life with Vision and her magic created the hex based off her subconscious. Because to her, watching the sitcoms was her only understanding of a normal life. She seemed genuinely surprised when she saw Vision and the hex, but she had what she wanted so she wasn't gonna question it and she just went along with the sitcom. Then when Mr Hart started choking and nobody did anything, she realized she was totally in control and she had to give Vision "permission" to save him. I don't think she necessarily "wrote a script," it was all her subconscious, and she just went along with it at first. Then as she realized she had more control she started micro managing more and more, and ironically thats when things got worse and worse. Kind of like when someone tells you to "breath normally" you forget how to fucking breath. That's just how I saw it when I watched. Anyone else have thoughts?
@disconsolate32353 жыл бұрын
This is such an excellent way to put it and I think it makes a lot of sense. It explains why she was so hesitant at the choking scene in the first episode but so much more certain and direct with her ‘cuts’ as the series progressed like her “no.” In episode 2 and outright cut when vision asked what was wrong. Her subconscious was slowly seeping in and she was started making the conscious decisions in the sitcom world
@Wayward-Son3 жыл бұрын
@@disconsolate3235 it also makes her a lot more sympathetic if you ask me. Cause if you look at from the approach of she knew exactly what she was doing from the start then she knew she was controlling these people and locking them away and that's super messed up and if you ask me, borderline irredeemable. But I look at it like her powers are basically a genie. She told her powers "I want a world where vision and I can live together" and her powers did the rest. Then when she was confronted with what she was doing she tried to ignore it which is still horrible and wrong, but eventually when it was right in her face and all the townsfolk confronted her at once, she was horrified with what she'd done. It's the classic "be careful what you wish for"

Cinema Wins is such a perfect answer to Cinema Sins, instead of grumpy nitpicking it's thoughtful, constructive, positive discussion about films, even ones that aren't necessarily very good. Also the communist jokes in the 50s/60s episodes are incredible and the "We don't break bread with Bolsheviks" line literally made me spit out my drink. God McCarthyism fucked us up so bad😭😂

I actually stopped watching cinemasins after discovering cinemawins. The thing with cinemasins is that it gets old fast because their videos are all made based on a formula. You know he's gonna complain about the logos, location cards etc. With cinemawins you get an actual look into the movie (or show lol) and the tiny details that make you appreciate it even more.

I mean I don’t like it cus Wanda is the bad guy and the show tries to ignore it and play her off as misunderstood, but like ya now she enslaved people to the point they beg for mercy and to be set free.
@Upstartvirus043 жыл бұрын
@@thisexistsoicancomment9098 I dont think Wanda is the real bad huy in this situation. Dont get me wrong, what she did was wrong and should not be taken lightly. But we've also got to understand the context on the situation. 1. She did not create the Hex purposefully and did not know the full extent of what she was doing. 2. She was in heavy grief at the time and was going through the stages of grief. Grief is a powerful thing and can make people do things they wouldnt do if they were in the right mindset. I mean, if you were in Wanda's shoes, in which you had lost your parents at the age of 10, lost your brother, lost your home, felt responsible for the deaths from the explosion during Civil War, lost what seemed like her only 2 real friends being Natasha and Cap during Endgame, and last but definitely the most impactful, having to kill your loved one only for said loved one to be brought back to be killed again. If I'm being honest I'm not sure I would even be able to take down the Hex just for the chance to have a small glimpse of a happy life if I went through everything Wanda went through. The whole show is about Wanda coming to terms with her grief and I personaly think they did a great job st that. 3. Once Wanda fully understood what she was doing to the people, the same people that she had managed to convince herself that she had made there lives better, she tried to close the Hex and only stopped when she saw what was happening to her family. Again, I'm not excusing what Wanda did as it was a horrible thing. But I can more than understand what she did and why she did it. Though, I do have a feeling that Westview is going to come back and bite Wanda in the ass in the near future. Agetha is still there and I dont think Marvel is done with her quite yet.

@@thisexistsoicancomment9098 whats wrong with her being the "bad guy" though? She made the wrong choice and did terrible things in her grief but by the end, she's come to an acceptance and accepted what she did was wrong, breaking free from her denial and shaping her as a more interesting and morally grey character with a shift in her perspective of herself and the world. It was a way more interesting path to take than good guy do "good thing" so character good. The world isn't black and white

A couple years ago Marvel released a mini-series called The Visions, where Vision created a family of his own and lived in a suburban neighborhood. In one issue the Grim Reaper attacked the family while Vision was out and the wife, Virginia, ended up killing Reaper, which traumatized the entire family.

And to take it a step further, comics-Vision's brain is based on Wonder Man, who is Grim Reaper's brother; thus, Vision is Reaper's not-really-a-brother, similar to the way Ralph Bohner is Wanda's not-really-a-brother.
