also stupid details I wanna add cuz I loved them - Shifu smiling and laughing during the dumpling fight and genuinely having a good time for the first time in the movie - Po using Tai Lung's tail (his weakness) against him in the final fight - Po vs Tai Lung looking at the dragon scroll: one smiling and confident and the other literally saying ''It's nothing" to his own reflection

When translating essentially the word Shifu, it comes up as being a teacher or master. So when the 5 or any of us saying Shifu, we literally are calling him master, his name is literally master when translated, so when you say his title of Master, we literally are saying Master Master, just it’s as Master Shifu. Just a little bit of humor in his name choice for the character.

And then, when Po was explaining the scroll and said, "There is no secret ingredient, it's just you.", looked at the scroll, saw himself and smiled genuinely proved how content and proud he was to be himself and how much he had grown. This, and considering the fact that he had hoped so strongly that Kung Fu would change him into someone he COULD be proud of makes you realize that he really was destined to become the Dragon Warrior. Both Tai Lung and Po wanted to find purpous, both tried to find it in Kung Fu, both studied under the same teacher, but Tai Lung seeked it through an earthy item, Po wanted to find it in himself-that is the vital difference!

That's because Shifu trained them to utilise their abilities to their fullest. By teaching them how to master tiger and leopard-style Kung Fu. Obviously he didn't teach both techniques to both fighters, but it's very obvious which technique he taught which fighter. I also noticed something, Tai Lung and Tigress were pretty counter-intuitive in the fight, with Tigress occasionally getting the drop on Tai Lung until Tai Lung finally bested her, this makes a ton of sense. Tiger and leopard-style Kung Fu are very similar, near-identical, techniques. Only difference is that Tiger-Style is more head-on than Leopard-style, which is slightly held-back on strength, especially when faced against foes with similar martial-arts. So no wonder Tai Lung eventually got the best of Tigress, she could only prolong the inevitable for so long against someone with better training and experience.

Most of the time Black was just being his own goofy self. They had all the actors sitting on stools in case they (Jack Black & Jackie Chan) wanted to stand up and act it out physically, and Black would work himself into a red-faced sweat. There’s one other detail in the movie that I’ve always thought was just so well done in hindsight: Oogway knows the dragon scroll is blank, so another reason why he didn’t let Tai-lung have it was because he knew Tai-lung wouldn’t except that the scroll was blank. He would’ve just assumed that they’re actually hiding it from him. Throw in the fact that with the scroll in his sites he becomes very single minded in trying to grab it. In both the flashback and his fight with Po, Oogway and Po were able to mess with him quite easily because they knew what he was after and to him everything else is secondary. If he had known that the scroll was blank at any point during any fight he actually would’ve been far more deadly and a lot less predictable.

It was said Tai Lung worked to exhaustion to make Shi fu proud. His entire goal was to become the dragon warrior and obtain the power of the dragon scroll. He had no plans on improving himself to better himself or help people. Ik this isn't the best example, but look at Mike Tyson. From the age of 13 he was constantly told he would become heavy weight champ of the world. He would wake up at 4 to go for runs and train tirelessly to make Cus D'Amato proud. Cus unfortunately passed away before Mike became champ. But after Mike became undisputed champ, he didn't know what to do. He didn't have any plans after getting the belts, his marriage was eating him alive, and he ended up doing hard drugs. Tai Lung is like Mike in this example. Now look at Po. He was fascinated by the history of kung fu. He was eager to learn to the point of being beat up both physically and mentally and yet he still continued. With the same eagerness too. Oogway saw that in him. Hell, he saw Po willing to fall a hundred or so feet just to see the masters at play. That's dedication. When it came time for Po to get the Dragon Scroll, he saw it as an honor. Not a reward. Po also knew he was thoroughly out classed in hand to hand combat. As was proven and only when Tai Lung lost control was when Po had the edge. Anger is a very good weapon when used correctly. Blindly following your anger like Tai Lung get's you several feet into the ground in some cases

I really love the scene of Oogway and Po talking under the peach tree. When you see Oogway with the other members of the Jade Palace, there is a sort of disconnect. The five and Shifu are costantly serious, worried about their training and about controlling themselves and the world around them. Oogway isn't, following with his belief that one must let go of the illusion of control, he's calm and accepting. And somehow, I feel like he and Po connect much better than he and all the others. I think it's because Po seems to have a sort of "live in the moment" attitude, which itself is close to Oogway's filosophy. Also, side note: Am I the only one who really thinks that, if Po had just asked, his Dad would have been happy to let him go see the furious five at the start of the movie? I mean, his room is full of Kung-Fu memorabilia, his Dad has to know how passionate he is about it. I don't know... I just love how they made Mr. Ping. It would have been so easy to make him into the asshole father stereotype who wanted his son to inherit the bussiness without caring what his son actually wanted. But instead, he's very supportive. I've heard people claim that he had no faith in his son when he put the apron on him during the evacuation, as doing that meant that he automatically asumed he had come home after failing. I saw it as "Welcome back, nothing has changed. You're still my son and there's always a place for you here!"

My favorite part of the training sequence where Po actually learns Kung Fu is that Shifu actually seems to be enjoying it. One of the major details I love in this movie are the differences between the Shifu vs. Tai Lung Fight and the Po vs. Tai Lung fight. As you said, the music turns whimsical for Po's fight while it's intense for Shifu's fight. Also, the animation is very different. For Shifu's fight, it's serious, fast paced, and stays somewhat grounded in reality. For Po's fight, it's wacky, cartoonish and everything is stretched and brought to new limits.

To me, there's almost a modicum of respect in their tone, like they are starting to realize there's more to someone than what meets the eye when they're able and willing to take such a monstrous beating and come back for more. To me, it's because of this that Viper scolds Mantis over his poor joke, because they see that even through the goofiness and what they perceive to be his complete inadequacy, there's something to be admired about the guy with the card stacked against him still putting up such a fight.

The thing about Po - well, one of the things about Po that make him a great character is how genuine he is. Dream sequence aside, he never acts like a predestined hero or individual with... any sort of apparent competence in anything, really. At the outset he's a normal guy who gets thrust into something bigger than himself, no small feat when you're a panda. And it really does start right after the dream sequence. Right from the beginning he's a huge kung fu nerd, and his attempted triumphant yell of "I LOVE KUNG FUUUUU!" is backed up the moment he stepped into the Jade Palace, overcome its awe at the pieces of history surrounding him. But that Pool of Sacred Tears Scene, the /moment/ he realises where he is, he's shocked for maybe three seconds and then his awe is palpable. And it's really at that point where he goes from "I wish I could do that" to "I can do it" and then at the end he fully steps into "I have done it." Just... beautiful.

One of my absolute favorite movies of all time. I'm just gonna go ahead and add some of my own wins, simply because i love it so much!: -Both Tigress and Tai Lung have glowing orange eyes, while their fellow non-feline animals do not ( 3:45 and 5:02 ). It's a little detail, but it makes so much sense. I especially adore how intense Tigress' orange eyes are in the blue darkness. -Speaking of blue and orange, this movie is filled to the brim with great color theory. 12:23 is probably my favorite shot, the blue of Po's shadow blending into the blue of the pool, but also the blue details on the floor and the gold dragon in the water balancing the shot, leaving the whole background just 2 colors. The same thing happening at 12:17, with the details in the floor in the shadows looking gold, and the ones in the light looking blue. -No seriously, there is so many scenes with contrasting colors in this movie it drives me nuts. 6:30 The green of Oogway and the ground with the pinks of the tree and fruit, 7:02 the purple darkness and the yellow of the candles and Oogways power, 10:38 with the purple-ish of the interior and the yellow glow of dawn, purple and gold again at 15:20... Also 4:34 with the almost-black and red, even if they're "true" contrasting colors, it's just too good not to mention! I'm serious, every shot of this movie is a masterpiece in color theory. There is very few moments where you can't find one warm color and one cool color in every scene. -Shifu's ears at 15:21. It's such a cute little detail, the way they twitch and swivel around. There is not a lot of scenes where the characters get to act animal, but that is one of them. 7:40 too, with Tigress' pupils dilating and then her landing on all four. What I'm saying is, I don't blame you for wanting to see this movie again rather than go to lunch with your wife. It's just so, so, sooo good.

Long time fan of your videos, but I rewatched this one and noticed you didn't really talk about the moment between Po and Shifu that happens at 7:16 where Po reminds Shifu that its Shifu's job to train Po, not Po's job to be trained, and that the failure is shared between them, that felt to me like an important piece in their relationship that leads into the next few scenes where Shifu changes his teaching style to match Po's learning style. Idk, random thought I felt like sharing, I love your videos! Keep up the wonderful work!

Shifu saying “panda” montage is the fastest and best way to show character growth. *Ding!*

This is one of my go to animated movies of all time, other two are Mulan and Shrek. But this, this has screenplay that is astounding, soundtrack and visual so great you don't think about them, because they are melted into it so perfectly. Cast is awesome, JB as Po is one of the very best casting choices ever. I will always love this movie, i think I need to watch it now.

Kung Fu Panda could actually be seen as a combination of Mulan and Shrek.🤔

I just wanna say that scene where Oogway turns into cherry blossoms is the most beautiful animated scene I have ever seen. The visuals, the music, the wisdom from the masters, it was just so damn good.

Okay so Ive been meaning to ask this for a long time but I’ve never got up the nerve- could you take a look my favourite (also Dreamworks) movie? Rise of the Guardians. So many people turned away from it because of the gimmicky concept (myself included at first), but after watching it... well even years later it still holds dear to me as my favourite film and one that has almost defined my young adult years. It reminded me of my inner child at a time when I needed it most, and made me feel what the characters were feeling. As someone with autism, empathy is something I’ve always struggled with and yet this film managed to make me feel for the main character in a way I struggle to with most real people. I understand you’re very busy but if you could consider choosing it as something to get round to eventually I’d really appreciate it. Thank you for all you do regardless, A silent supporter ^^

Valledorthedragon I was always marginally interested in that movie but never saw it, so it’d be sweet if he did an EGA on it.

It's a fun movie on its own right, it's entirely predictable (with the exception of the hidden backstory), but the plot itself is not that interesting. The fight scene I would personally say are surprisingly good.

Three wins I love: In the opening dream, the huge horde of enemies forms the shape of a big monster Po's style of Kung Fu is modelled on Bear Style. The lines "I have come home, master"...."This is no longer your home, and I am no longer your master"

When I first watched this movie I was like "Oh my god why is Shifu such a mean teacher" and now that I actually study kung fu it's: "Why is Shifu too nice to his students?"

Another great thing about this movie, which I wouldn’t have noticed until watching this video, is... I’m not sure how to phrase it, the way the “acting” of the animated characters tells part of the story. Specifically the Furious Five/ Tai Lung fight, when both Tai Lung and Tigress are on the bridge. Tai Lung is practically lounging while upright, standing on a single rope while Tigress visibly shifts a couple times to retain a balanced stance on the wooden slats. The contrast isn’t something you’d notice without looking for it, yet it adds to the tension anyway.

1:38 After this scene, when Shifu tells the Five what they need to improve on (tigress needs more ferocity etc), they're all qualities that Tai lung has, which are shown in the movie

0:28 Love how much of his dreams become reality to Po. That part becomes one of the first moves he does when fighting in the second movie. Really shows how he can keep being so optimistic, his dreams have come true in the best ways possible,

I love how some of the strongest hits have this mystical glow, like the blue of Tai Lung's nerve strike or how both Po and Oogway have a golden glow when defeating him. The fight with Shifu vs Tai Lung is filled with blue glows.
