I have my own little win for this movie I’d like to share: As an Australian, I was legitimately surprised to find that Jack’s actor, Tom Burke, is British. His Aus accent is so good that it actually fooled me into thinking he was an Australian actor. Which has never happened to me before. It’s usually very easy to spot a fake Aus accent because you can almost hear the actors overthinking it. But Tom in this movie is spot on!

I agree, Aus accents are always way too over the top. Even by aussie actors, the one that comes to mind is Jai Courtney in Suicide Squad.

something that i haven't been able to stop thinking about since I put it together, Dementus sculpted Furiosa into a creature defined by grief and rage so nonchalantly and so non-personally for so many years and even as he's dying he never even bothers to ask her what her name is

The problem with box offices these days is that Covid basically killed peoples drive to go to the theater, while streaming has killed the secondary revenue stream of DVD sales that could allow movies to do just OK at the box office as they new another paycheck was coming a few months later when dvd/blueray sales started

Consistent detail I love in this movie is how bad Dementus is at leading. Aside from the History Mans constant distaste for Dementus' ways, First after he gains rule over Gastown, it falls behind in production and the people are chaotic. His solution is to ask for MORE resources. Then the Octoboss leaves him. When Furiosa escapes Dementus, we can see Mr. Davidson sheathing his machete, implying he cut her down and helped her, then when Furiosa steals the car from Scrotus, in the background we can see Mr. Davidson cradling a dead Mr. Harley in his arms and we can assume he joined Joes side. Dementus tries to rule through pure fear and intimidation but he has nothing to offer but bloodshed and fighting. He is constantly being undermined by his own men but he either doesn't notice or doesn't care because, like you said, he's just trying to use bloodshed and pain to distract from his past. Max said it best in Fury Road. "If you don't try to fix what's broken. You'll go insane."
@thisbubblygoodness76118 күн бұрын
yeah, that's what makes him so entertaining, he walks over his own men, not even to 'get ahead' but because he just has zero respect for anyone or himself, he's really just a dog chasing cars who's convinced other dogs to chase cars with him. still tho, he can't be a terrible leader as he managed to run Gas Town for 13 years give or take. the spiral downwards of morale only seems to be a recent event imo
@thelastholdout5 күн бұрын
@@thisbubblygoodness7611 The easy answer to Gas Town lasting 13 years under his rule was that it was run so well prior to his takeover that it took 13 years for his terrible leadership to run it into the ground. Competent staff had to be run off or killed, etc, and that takes time. Entire towns usually don't go to shit overnight even with the worst leadership.
@matthewbatey19978 күн бұрын
if you look closely at what Dementus is eating, while his men are killing P Jack, you can see they are mushrooms, more than likely psychedelic mushrooms, kinda adds to the "I'm bored." line, the trip was over, he's so desensitized by all the killing he has to take hallucinogens just to enjoy with anything, and like a long time drug addict, he doesn't even feel the pleasure from either the killing or the shrooms, probably from anything. and he probably doesn't even miss it. to quote my favorite song "I don't even miss the pleasure I can longer feel"
@BatAmerica9 күн бұрын
I love how this movie characterizes Furiosa's journey to the Green Place. We see it through Furiosa's eyes, so audiences who have never watched Fury Road can connect with her challenges because her goals are sympathetic. Meanwhile, if you have watched Fury Road, it forces you to want better for Furiosa while tearing your heart out, and it works either way you watch it.
@RedDeadRogue8 күн бұрын
Fun little detail that you (respectfully) missed: After the Bullet Farm ambush, Dementus has little cuts all over his face and arms from there the sharp edges of the brass shell casings cut him as they cascaded over him off the conveyor belt.

If you haven't played the Mad Max video game (its fantastic) there are some nods to the game in this movie too. The little glimpse of Max we see in this movie is dressed exactly like he is in the game AND the main villain of the game is named Scrotus! So i guess thats why we don't see his fate in this movie, because we can play it out in the game

@nonspiderweb8 күн бұрын
yes and no. From my understanding Miller wrote a bunch of notes about the lore of the Wasteland as he was plotting Fury Road, and he shared those notes with the game developers. So he's wasn't exactly nodding to the game, more so he was referencing the material that was also ALSO used by the game. The game isn't exactly canon, which is why Scrotus looks very different from his game counterpart. Another example is there is a mission where you drive a car with a Skeleton on a motorcycle on the roof. That vehicle belonged to a dead warlord named Dr.D... the D stood for Dementus.
@itsPlasma068 күн бұрын

Something that i noticed that i havent seen anyone else discuss is the way that the movie echos moments from classical Myth. The death of Jack always makes me think of The Death of Hector from the Trojan War, where Achilles drags Hector's body around the walls of Troy. And Dementus' suffering reminds me of the punishment of Tantalus where in the underworld Tantalus is surrounded by abundance but cannot reach it. Specifically that the fruit grows above him but there is no way that Dementus can reach up to it.

I think there is a good chance that the Green Place failed because Immortan Joe turned off the water that fed the river that fed the Green Place.

The background baddy at the beautiful Winchester tangent almost looks like his wearing a fallout vault suit, post apocalypse appreciation?

That knife that Furiosa uses during the truck fight is a real weapon (or inspired by one), it's one part gun, one part knife and one part brass knuckles (or knuckle duster), it's called the Apache revolver but it was actually invented in either France or Belgium with it being used by French gangs in the early 1900's.

23:29 if you look closely, you can see frankenstien (the big dude dementus called soft) putting away his machete as dementus approaches. I like to think he freed her out of spite. we see him again at the end with the history man, implying them both to be her "allies" from earlier

Yes! It's here! And if you saw Mad Max: Fury Road you have no choice but to see Furiosa.

23:30 My guy is describing every serial killer perfectly over here. Also, Dementus is a pretty good bad guy, cause he's the kinda villain you can't win against. He's basically been dead for many years and is now just chasing highs to be alive again for a few moments. Torture him and you might even give him a high he hasn't tried yet. Killing him just ends his suffering, the only upside to that is that at least he doesn't abuse others anymore.

Was not expecting a Hug The Sun reference in a video about Furiosa! Australia is a strange place indeed.

This movie really sent the series in a new direction. Like with cars.

This masterpiece needs its conclusion Mad Max The Wasteland and despite its box office failure deserves to be praised. It’s amazing. It’s mad

Did NOT expect a Hug the Sun reference. It's such a bonkers series. Grouse House goes hard.
