Ages ago a friend of mine was homeless and his routine became, wake up in the flop house, Strip his bed, eat breakfast and kicked out by 8am, Steal enough to sell for enough to pay for his habit and then, he had nothing to do. So he went to a highstreet bookstore and saw the 50th anniversary lotr books - and stole the Fellowship of the Ring. He would then go and sort himself out and then sit in a public "mall kinda place(?)" that he could directly see the homeless shelter from where he sat, and he just read the lotr all day until the shelter opened. He did pay for the Two Towers book, but not for the Return of the King....😔 but, he read trilogy cover to cover over 4 times before his space at a rehab was approved. Those books meant so much.....he essentially just lived in middle earth for over 10 hours every day. They saved him....

Fun fact, in the books Sauron, still weakened from the divine intervention of the Drowning of Numenor, was defeated in 2 on 1 combat by Elendil and Gil-Galad. (That's right, Sauron at the Battle of the Last Alliance was weaker than he had been just a century before) Both High Kings were killed (Gil-Galad was incinerated by Sauron's hands) and Sauron's new body was gravely injured. Isildur then used his fathers broken sword to cut the Ring from the downed Enemy, at which point Sauron's spirit fled. So no, Sauron did not reach with his Ring hand and get his fingers chopped off like a bloody moron. He more or less got looted.

Little known fact: Peter Jackson actually considered including the two blue wizards, Alator and Pallando, in the extended cut of Fellowship. But it would have been too inconsistent with the established lore. Jackson, who of course wanted to stay true to the books, was quoted saying: "It's an interesting idea to include the blue wizards, but let's harvest it for another time.". Which actually led the working title of this movie to be "Blue Harvest", which coincidentally was the working title for Star Wars: Episode IV - First Star Wars.

The aragorn thing seems like a way to make the whole noble bloodline story more palatable for a modern audience. Instead of book "yea I'm actually 100% physically superior to u bc my ancestors were kings, I want to be king, I'm tired of this bullshit let me be king" attitude its everyone around him going "aaah you see the guy who doesn't want the crown is most fitting for it!" trope you see in like, every fantasy story. I also haven't read the books, but I was watching something about the Ralph Bakshi cartoon from the 70's and it mentioned one thing I think they did better. When they did the riddle at the door, where you're supposed to "Speak Friend and Enter", I just thought that this magic door had a stupid password. But in the cartoon and the book, Legolas (I think) mentions that that seems dumb, and Gimli says, "Those were happier times". It's such a little thing, but I think it really adds a layer to the scene since it's kind of sad how dark things are now when back then you didn't need serious security. With that said, I still think it's a great movie, and I just watched the extended trilogy for the first time a few months ago. It was funny because I noticed some of the newer bits from two and three, but in the first one I couldn't place anything that was different. I guess it was either all extensions to existing scenes, or maybe I watched it on TV a long time ago and didn't realize it was the extended one.

Fun fact: while the beautiful New Zealand landscape became iconic with this film, it was at times a concern for Peter Jackson and the production team. Whilst there are still a number of scenes throughout the film in different landscapes, so much of the film is shot in luscious areas of grass, trees, and plants, so much so that Jackson became concerned that all the greenery might start to make the locations feel too similar. That's why Triviaship of the Trivia is also known as Green Trivia

As a nerd who loves the books, I think this is the best of the films Jackson made from an adaptation perspective. Aragorn is, off the bat, a very different character, but he works well for what the films are going for. Frodo's also very different, but that's not really an issue yet.
@Luckypants21132 сағат бұрын
“Fellowships are what modern men are missing.” True, but what’s also kinda funny is that these movies are great examples of healthy masculinity. Aragorn is a caregiver and protector for those in his company. He shows compassion and even tenderness to Boromir, even being comfortable placing his hand on boromir and kissing him on the forehead. He’s willing to lead others not out of ego but out of duty. He recites poetry and sings at his own coronation. All that and he’s still an absolute badass who beat the shit outta orcs and gets the hot girl in the end. I’m not even joking when I say these movies are actually really good examples of how a well adjusted man should behave. Also not relevant but I wanted to say it. This trilogy is an absolute masterpiece. I can never say enough good things about these movies. I’ve seen them dozens and dozens of times and I will gladly watch them many, many more times. They’ve aged really well. Even 20+ years after they came out and they still look incredible. It doesn’t feel like an older movie at all. These movies just capture a feeling and a tone that you can’t get from anything else. It makes you feel nostalgic for a time you didn’t actually live through. It makes you homesick for a place you never lived. It feels like hanging with old friends even though it’s fictional characters that you’ve never met. It’s so damn good!!!

5:14 20:35 On the topic of "The focus is on Frodo". That's a focus in the theatrical edition. If you watch RandomFilmTalk's videos about the extended cut it becomes evident that refocusing Frodo as "The main character" was a huge drive for the cuts they made. If a scene doesn't have Frodo in it or doesn't relate to Frodo, it was on the chopping block. Characters like Boromir lost a lot in the cuts.

I remember sneaking into the theater and the only available seats were on the front row in the corner. We were so drunk we sat there and farted and made fun of Gandalf and Frodo's relationship while local celebrity Moana from The Bachelor sat behind us.

Nerd of the Rings is probably one of the most positive and friendly LotR channels so it's funny to have them be the example of mean nerds.

It's honestly depressing beyond words, how we will never, ever get movies on this kind of scale, this kind of passion, this kind of creative freedom, this kind of exceptionally honed quality.... ever again.

Weirdly, this was basically the end of art in cinema. And I'm not saying this as some weird fanboy. We just don't see movies like this getting made anymore. Nobody is going to put this kind of work into a big budget movie today.
