Some part of me is still living in denial imagining Ilsa faked her death again. I really hope the sequel ties everything up and makes her death truly worth it and not just a stakes-setter
@Matkatamiba9 ай бұрын
I'm decently sure her death was faked, like 60/40 or something. The only convincing reason it wouldn't be faked is that the actress is busy right now with Silo and Dune, otherwise there's lots of Mission Impossible style reasons why they'd fake it for the AI. It also generally felt uncharacteristic for someone this major to go out like that.

What I like most about this "mind-reading shape-shifting embodiment of chaos" line is that it builds on the reputation Hunt already has in this universe, in Rogue Nation he's referred to as "the living manifestation of destiny", I just absolutely adore how even top top top level spies and soldiers in this universe regard Ethan as this otherworldly being, Mission Impossible isn't even a superhero film, and it still does that better than 95% films that officially are, besides all the mind-blowing action and set pieces.

You didn't mention during the hallway and bridge fight scene, Ethan and Gabriel are both fighting women, and you can see Ethan trying not to hurt her and then see Gabrial throwing Grace into the wall and then killing Ilsa, and at the end Ethan has to win the fight and still tries to get her to surrender instead of having to seriously hurt her. This can also relate to when Gabriel was talking to Grace and said Ethan will hurt people who get close to him and will kill anyone if they get in their way, and we first hand see that Ethan doesn't act like that, Gabriel does.

It is wild how much this series got us all to love Ilsa given her past. Not to mention shooting at Ethan in Fallout. And I'm not saying I don't love Ilsa, I'm just saying it's impressive that she's so likable!
@dellytancyl5249 ай бұрын

Solomon Lane needs Ethan alive throughout Rouge Nation so he can manipulate him to complete his goals and Ilsa is doing the same as she sees him as her ticket out from Lane and MI6 -hence for example why she saves him when he 'drowns'. It's why she gives him a very sad 'sorry but I had no choice' look after the motorbike crash and doesn't hold it against him when he knocks her off her bike in Fallout. When she shoots in Fallout, it's at Lane and she kills 'John Lark' against orders to protect him earlier on.

Every pointing out of references to the first Tom Cruise MI movie further disappoints me that the "Dead Reckoning" of the title referred to some rando with basically no build-up named Gabriel rather than "someone from a _previous movie_ thought _dead_ but returned to give Ethan a _reckoning_ because of blaming Ethan for personal misfortune" like hacker Jack who got crushed in the elevator. Jack was on par with Luther skill-wise and could've returned with a bunch of scars and artificial limbs or something and made more sense if an AI entity being the central MacGuffin and potential antagonist was in play.

When Ethan was forced to choose beetween Grace and Ilsa, I already knew it would be Ilsa. MI is not like James Bond, where you can have as many girls as you want, after all, they're here only to be saved and f*cked. There's a ton of mention of choice in this one and the lack thereof, especially in the scene post Ilsa's death where they reference that the initial choice that started them all in the IMF was really a false one, given the alterntive was death or imprisonment. I think they're gonna set up where Ethan offers or even convinces the Entity to take the same choice in the end, and we're gonna get like Person of Interest AI like scenario where the govt fully disbannds the IMF, and the Entity takes up the role as a shadow benefactor and mission giver of the IMF. There could even be a scene in the end where a bunch of agents, former agents of other agencies, talented good natured criminals, etc. around the globe, get contacted by the Entity offering them a choice. This could set up the Mission Impossible movie series for the future if Tom Cruise is gonna stop being in them.

I’m really not a fan of how this film treated Ilsa’s death. It’s not that she died, or even that she died to raise the stakes (at this point in MI, character death is the only way to raise the stakes any higher). It’s that her death was in service of the story between Ethan and the newly introduced villain, rather than the story between her and Ethan that had been developing for 2 films. Ilsa’s whole deal was that she was a twist on the classic “I want a peaceful life but I can’t bc I’ve gotta be a spy” narrative. Instead of representing that peaceful life like Julie, she’s in the exact same position as Ethan. Both long for a life they know they can never have, and because they’re such kindred spirits, they’re able to find some comfort in each other. It’s a genuinely refreshing twist on a classic narrative, and it’s frustrating that her death had almost nothing to do with that. And it’s made worse by the fact that they introduced another beautiful British brunette to replace her. I get that they’re very different characters and I actually do like Grace and her role in the story, but it just feels wrong to kill Ilsa and immediately replace her with another woman. The viewer doesn’t have time to feel Ilsa’s absence because they’re too busy getting used to Grace’s presence.

XDDDDD Bro thinks we didn't understand the A.I plot, because we are lazy idiots, who don't pay attention. We don't get the A.I plot because Cristopher McQuarry made the decision to include the AI as the main villain while in the middle of shooting, meaning we have to get a washed 12 minute dialogue scene explaining what the AI is, which is outright inexcusable for a so called "perfectly crafted movie". Furthermore, the AI got almost no screentime meaning apart from a sequence at the beginning, we have no evidence to perceive the entity as a threat. And because, Cristopher McQuarry decides to make his movies while recording, it comes with rushed and incomplete plots, like genuinely, Ethan Hunt, gains both parts of the key which he already had half of at the beginning and the location of the submarine, which we already knew 10 minutes in. This movies is so bloated and empty at the same time, because so little happens over a 2.5 hour duration. Also unforced plot errors like Ethan parachuting in the exact carriage at the exact time needed to save Grace's life. Such a perfectly crafted movie. 😒😒😒
