I've had either a Bamboo or an off-brand tablet like Monoprice and Ugee (which I totally recommend to anyone looking to start out with tablets, btw!) for the past 13 years, finally upgraded to an Intuos Pro medium about 6 months ago, and now I'm also getting the Cintiq Companion 2. Got my Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 today! This is my first touch screen Wacom tablet and it feels so unnatural resting my hand on a machine this beautiful (even though I know it's perfectly okay to) I was watching this video weeks ago thinking it was about the regular Cintiqs and got confused when you started mentioning RAM, storage etc as though it were a computer. Because that seemed like only something dreams were made of. And by god what a dream machine it is!!!

A friend let me try her companion 2 out at a convention we were selling our work at. OMFG I really need one. I am so fed up with bamboo tablets! Sadly money be the issue.... I wish I wasn't still in the startup phase of mah business! These are just so amazing. I have a decent pc and a laptop but I don't have a desk so I have to sit with the bamboo on my lap, my keyboard in an open drawer of my clothes chest of drawers and the mouse has to be put ontop the dresser.... and it's just... not a great system. A companion would mean I could go off and sit on my bed or downstairs and not be an artist hermit. Ah one day... ONE DAY! The review really helped dude. Cheers.

Been using Companion 2 for over 5 months and I must say it's worth of the price. Only thing that is kinda fustrating is calibrating. You have to get used to the cursor not always following the pen tip 100%. When going sides of the screen the cursor is quite off from the pentip position.

I really would like to upgrade to something like this in the future, but sadly I am on a tight budget, working several jobs just to keep afloat and not starve to death, so an Intel Core i5 M520 laptop with Intel HD graphics card and a Wacom Intous Small tablet (and of course pen and paper) are my friends for the next several years, haha. May be one day... Love watching your reviews anyway, I am not a very techie person (I am more of a technophobe to be completely honest, never trust computers more than simple pen and paper), so I seek as much advice as possible when buying computers and tablets so I can get the most out of it - your reviews totally help me decide which device is better and the benefits they have and / or lack in comparison. :)
@MsLuckyLucario4 жыл бұрын
I've started with digital artworks in 2010. At first I used only my mouse, but after a few months I saved up enough money to effort my first drawing tablet. This was the "Odys Grafik Board", it costed me 50€. I choosed it because it had a large surface (about a A4 size) and I absolutely disliked the small ones like Wacom Bamboo. This cheap device work great for me and so I used it for around 7 years. It has never let me down, but the fact that I always had to use it with a computer bothered me. Especially when I visited my boyfriend for a week or a weekend. So I finally decided to look for another option... I got lucky and found a Cintiq Companion 2 on ebay. Labeled as used but nearly new (the previous owner didn't liked it as much as he hoped for, because of its weight). I bought it and now that I'm using it for around 3 years I still love it sooo much x3 But I totally agree with the fact that your device doesn't make your art good. It's the amount of effort you put in it!

I love the idea of the companion but I have a pretty decent gaming PC that can run photoshop very well and I think the companion simply wouldn't measure up to what I'm used to. It would have been nice to see you using brushes that put a bigger strain on the hardware and at a high resolution - for example it looked like you were drawing and colouring with the hard round brush which is incredibly easy to render - compare that to, let's say one of Kyle's watercolour brushes, and the results could be much different - this can be made even more dramatic by sizing the brushes up to say 300-500 pixels which is a little extreme but it's not unheard of. Not trying to be negative about the review, I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was great to hear your thoughts, I just wish I could try one out for myself and see how it handles more complex brushes and textures.

Cintiq Companion looks like a product I would look into purchasing in the future. I have tried drawing on an iPad, even the iPad Pro and its Pencil. As much as I like Apple products, some how I feel limited by the apps you can use on them, especially when it comes to Photoshop. I like that with Cintiq Companion you can use a full Photoshop program. I know with iPad Pro with the Pencil I did have larger screen, more control, and nice flow, I just don't know if I would want to invest into it. How would the Cintiq Companion compare to the iPad Pro with the Pencil?
@ArtistChibi8 жыл бұрын
I use the Wacom Bamboo. It may not be one of the fancier kinds of graphics tablets out there, but it sure is a damn good one. Though, I do wonder how the Cintiq would work with Manga Studio. I use Manga studio over Adobe because of price and how much less memory it takes up by comparison. I still use Photoshop for certain brushes, mainly for backgrounds, but when it comes to drawing, itself, I use Manga Studio.

Cool, the reviews of the companion 2 have been a bit lacking since it was released over a year ago. I would recommend the base model (or the one just above, its worth it just for the case and stand) for anyone that wants a drawing tablet and doesn't have a dedicated 22" (or 27") cintiq at home. Then just plug it into a more beasty computer when you get home. Great for sketching on the go.

Awesome video as always! Few Questions: - So, I understand it does not need a computer to work which is great! But can it still connect to a more powerful desktop? How is it compared to the 13HD, is it the same thing but the companion has the advantage of being an independent computer. -How is it in terms of rendering when using software like Maya, Zbrush or Premiere? -I believe it comes with windows 8.1, have you upgraded to windows 10 yet? and did you experience any noticeable issues with the drivers? I'm deciding between either getting the companion or getting the 13HD and upgrading my computer.

Interesting comparison. Naturally the companion 2 (especially with the specs you have) will outperform the first. What I wonder about - and maybe you can somehow get your hands on results - is how the high end version of the Companion 2 compares to the low end version. As in, would the companion 2 'budget' version be good enough already? On a sidenote - for someone aiming to purchase a Cintiq product - with enough budget to get 1 product - would you suggest a 'regular' Cintiq or the Cintiq Companion?
@Krusher1157 жыл бұрын
gerbillgrubb im not Jazza, but personally, having the desktop cintiq display tablets are far better quality. There are amazing benefits of both tablets with portability and being able to use it everywhere. The desktop tablet not only has a nicer screen and HD display. Plus the desktop tablets run off the power of your desktop computer. So if you have a strong computer your tablet will run amazingly.

Okay, before I start anything, I'm not exactly a developed artist and my style is uh, all over the place. Okay so, for the past several months I have been using the Huion H610. I don't exactly have a lot of money so it was the best I could get at the time. Problems that I have come across - I have to restart my PC with the tablet plugged in everytime I wish to draw due to the fact my pen pressure quits working. I don't exactly have a fast PC, so this process takes about 5 minutes. - The pen is awfully fragile, and I press hard on the screen. I've cracked 2 of the replaceable tips already, oops... This isn't really a problem with the tablet, this is just something I would like to be considered in suggesting a tablet. - I've had to reinstall my drivers a couple of times because occasionally the buttons change their functions. I would be trying to erase something by clicking the handy erase button, but would end up getting the "Where do you want to save this file?" screen, or pressing the color picker button and almost closing my drawing program. I love this tablet when it is not screwing on me, it's a great product, but it's inconviences are annoying. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for new tablets to purchase in the future. A display screen would be nice if I wanted to draw while away from home, but I would be fine with a normal tablet. This Cintq Companion 2 is out of the question, I don't have $2,000 to spend xD

Jazza, very informative vid. I bought a Surface Pro 4a couple of months ago after seeing the tv ads, and doing online research. But the drawing process has been less than desirable in Photoshop etc, with terrible inaccurate pen/cursor jitter wobble when drawing show or diagonal strokes. Have you used a Surface Pro 4 yourself? I really want a more accurate drawing device, as I'm trying to build up a digital portfolio, but at the moment, the process is more than a little frustrating. The Companion is pretty much out of my price range, it would take a lot more saving to buy one, but would you suggest selling/returning the Surface Pro 4 to put towards one?

Do you think I could fit a bit longer bluetooth keyboard in the pouch? I don't have access to the wacoms own bluetooth keyboard and I've been looking everywhere how big that keyboard pouch is. The keyboard that I have in mind is about 25mm longer than the wacom product. Do you think it'll fit in there? I now have the possibility to purchase Companion 2 and I'd want to plan everything ahead as it is so expensive product. Can you help me out?

Hello ! You helped me a lot to understand the difference between this two tablets, but I have always the same question that comes in my mind, perhaps you can answer me because I see that you use/used pretty much many of their tablets. So, I want to know if the interactivity between your pen and the screen is fast/fluid or is it a little waiting till the realisation of a line on the picture that you're working on? I have a Wacom Bamboo product and it's not with a screen. I'm not yet a big artist, but I like to draw on the PC and do graphical things with it, it's faster and you can better do the details. But this one is directly connected to the computer so it works fast for the interactions but is it the same with the companions or Cintiq 13HD perhaps ? I can't try this kind of product because I'm from Switzerland so if you can explain a little bit more about this or suggest me one of the tablets, or anything else I will be really thankfull for that. Thank you ! (Sorry for my bad english :3)

+VicMaxSim I've never used screen protectors, though I use my Cintiqs every day, they've never gotten a scratch.
