Also, i have had the cintiq 13HD for a little over a year and while the stand may work fine, i have noticed it has started to fall apart, nothing serious but some of the plastic on the bottom of it has come loose, maybe thats what everyone is complaining about

I'm 12 years old and me and my friends want to start making cartoons. We're saving up for microphones and sketchbook pro. +toon gamer Considering the fact that you're still only 12, it will take a LOT longer to save up for this $3000 tablet than it would to buy a considerably less expensive computer and tablet. If you've got thousands to spare, go for it, but from what you've said about saving for microphones and sketchbook pro, I doubt you have the money needed for the highest end of the graphics tablet family.

I wish Apple and Wacom would get together and make a version with the Apple OS on it. I am sure some super smart guy or girl has already figured it out. I don't like windows of any kind and have lost to many projects because it crapped out on me or blue screened or just took a big crap. I will stick with my MacBook Pro and and cintiq 13HD. Let me tell you a brief story about Wacom and this product (and I hope it will get upvoted): I bought it one day and I started using it and right away it got scratches on the screen. I bought it off Amazon but I consider it'll be quicker to contact Wacom directly (OOF!). After two weeks of waiting for a f*cking mail, they basically tell me "sorry we can't do shit for you, thank you for giving us your money and f*ck you". BLOODY pissed off, I take a day or two to think about a way to find my way around that shit, I think "heyyy, why not contact Amazon support and see what happens". WELL GUESS WHAT! WITHIN 24 HOURS, NOT ONLY THEY REPLIED BUT ALSO SHIPPED A REPLACEMENT! I would've kissed Amazon's ass that day but that's another story. Anyway, get a freaking screen protector and don't be affraid of spending on it. The one I got was from a company called uhh "PhotoDon". I remember because I use the cleaning cloth they gave with it still =). I have all the evidences of that if anyone wanna argue that story.

Wow thanks for such an extensive and honest review! I've had my Acer laptop for 6 years and my Bamboo Fun graphics tablet for 8 years and I'm looking to upgrade. I've been seriously considering getting a Macbook Pro and an Intuos Pro medium, but now that I saw this review I'm wondering if this could be a better option instead. I also do professional illustration and flash/after effects animation work, so any advice would be helpful! :)

Thanks for the review! I really want this piece of equipment now. But the price... wow. no way. Maybe in 5 - 8 years :( And to say its GPU (which in reality isn't a dedicated gpu) is high tier is... just wrong. The gpu itself is an integrated gpu in the processor and isn't meant to play games at all. And it isn't even classified as a mobile graphics card. It is simply classified as a mobile graphics card. So this is a very very low tier gpu and people NEED to know that. Even though no one in his/her right mind would buy this just for games. But their expectations are set way too high in this regard. I really don't know how you could have been so greatly misinformed :/ Other than that this review must have been the most useful one I've found of this product :)

Using the thing in the bath? You are one brave man :D I own a Surface pro I5 core, which is version pro 2? I still don't understand their branding thingy... The only thing I do see the difrerence between the products is the keys on the front and of course the processor. My main question, to those who can help me, is the drawing aspect. 1024 pressure levels of sensitivity and 2048. I do think both devices use WACOM technology in their pen's drawing abilities, did anybody make the change and can say that the drawing aspects are a great improvment? I would really appreciate for any information from the change between them two (Market value when I buoght mine was 800$ vs the 3000$ ish for the companion, trying to figure out why the long jump in price just for these few changes) Thanks in advance and thank you jazza for the awesome info :3

Hi Jazza, you forgot to include one of the most important topic/part of the Companion, the Express Keys. I also do have a Companion, and one of the troubles I encounter (besides the plastic stand which is not very reliable especially standing at the edge of the table) is the very limited buttons on the left, although you can assign shortcuts for particular programs, it doesn't respond or work well if you open a couple of program and happen to switch. I have it for over a year now, updated it a couple of times and still, those express/shortcut functions are only problem I encounter. Anyways, long time follower here :). Thanks for the very informative video.

What the F? An Animator that doesn't make use of quick-keys? I didn't see the keyboard anywhere when you were on the toilet,.. Or the couch for that natter What if you needed a Ctrl, or Alt or Shift.. Or esc, or alt-tab, or... or,... (on my companion 2 there are 7 programmable buttons PLUS the rocker, heck I only need the keyboard To Type (duh...) No offense, but that's so silly... Yeah, don't get this tablet. Something I only learned when it was too late: Wacom messed the charging port up. Only takes a couple of tries to completely fry it. Aka: The tablet breaks after only a couple of weeks/months. They do not repair these things anymore either. Oh and for the companion 2? The battery itself is the problem. Don't believe me? Type in "Good drawing tablets". Noone except for Jazza is talking about this tablet. What a rip off!

Hi Jazza, do you have cursor offset with the companion? Not refering to the distance between screen and pen tip due to glass. I'm having them in my companion 2, especially when I turn the pen's angle to point say southward or towards the north. How do you deal with it? I'm looking to get a Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 - is there anything they're not telling about it's drawbacks? Nice review, one small point though, not everyone may be aware but you can't plug this into a computer and use it as a standard Cintiq - it's a stand alone product so your stuck with the internal specs unlike the Hybrid which does connect to any computer setup.

I know this is the stand alone one, but I am considering the merits of the 13 in cintiq and the larger ones 22/24 that connect to your PC. I may have missed it, but did you comment on the size relative to the others? Does it feel restrictive? I am fortunate to have the funds to get one of the larger one if it's worth it.

Hi Jazza! Thanks for the in depth review. I noticed you didn't mention the 256gig price, which is $1,800 US dollars. Also, I got two questions. Firstly, how is the heat level of the screen after it's been on for a few hours? I'm using a Cintiq 12w and I notice after a few hours, the bottom right side of the screen heat up quite a bit. In fact, over the years, I have been using the tablet up side down so I can actually draw heat-free. Secondly, can I use my Logitech blue tooth keyboard for this? Thanks! :D

Unfortunately, both the 256 and 512 GB versions are out of stock on Wacom! :-( I did, however, find both versions on Vistek.ca (a Canadian retailer). It is just too expensive, given the fact that 3rd Gen of CPU's architecture lessen the battery life, which I personally think is quite impacting to its versatility a lot, and the old integrated graphic card. I have a Cintiq HD 13 and it really a hard made choice whether I should buy the Companion Version or the Hybrid version. I have to say my screen version is not impressive, almost impossible to carry around and appears to be unworthy when I purchase the 22 HD Cintiq. I am not a fan of Android performance on Tablet whereas the Win 8.1 transforms the 13 Companion into a almost full Laptop, which is far more efficient. So the only issue that still haunts around me is the price and its generation, I kind of think Wacom is a little bit lagging behind in updating their product while remaining at a high end price. But I do regret due to the lack of versatility and portability of my 13 HD. Windows 8.1 Companion would be truly great if they lower the price to the Hybrid version or update the specs to a mainstream level.

Wow, thank so much, I stopped drawing for 2 years and I feel so bad about it, cant live without it, pencils and papers is a real struggle so i decided to go for a tablet so I can use it for school notes and get rid of most of my papers. With so many tablets not sure what way to go, tried Surface pro 3 at work but obviously not enough for drawing. Nice interview! I need some advice however. Since I'm a student on a budget, I wouldn't be able to afford this for a while, ostensibly longer than the window I have to obtain one. You said you've used a Microsoft Surface Pro for drawing, which is the alternative I've chosen as a recreational artist. What's your experience on it? I've heard somewhat positive, if a little mixed, reviews on the art capabilities of this tablet hybrid. The only prior experience I've had with digital art is a Wacom Bamboo Create and a laptop which wasn't in the best shape. The disconnect of the screen and my hand combined with the aged nature of the laptop provided a bit of a sour experience. So would you suggest a Surface Pro or maybe a decent laptop and giving the Intuos line a crack?

My companion stopped charging after a month, so I sent it back and they gave me a new one. If i had asked, they would have sent me a shipping label, but I ended up spending $60 sending it back because I thought they wouldn't do it. BUT, the new one they sent me is just fine and has been working perfectly for months. No regrets, and it's super convenient for traveling between home and school/cafes/ect!

This product seems very nice. But let's face it. The price point has nothing to do with what market they were after. Companies will charge you the most they think you will pay for it. They are the leaders in the digital tablet world. If they were not leading and no one was checking for them their price would be more reasonable. This price point is just ridiculously high even if you make a lot of money with your art it's still too much. Even a 1000 USD is excessive but more justified. Great review by the way.

would love this product as it's perfect for my needs. but the price is steeeeeeeeeep! shame really, as i would need to sell my gaming PC to justify buying this at it's high price... and frankly that aint gonna happen. could you do a review on Wacom alternatives? for those of us who want to create digital art without having to remortgage the house to afford the tools to do so ;-P

I've watched this and it's made me very happy to watch this cause it's given me a better view n what it's like, but the only thing I'm curious about is does it run Manga studio an/or Sai? Mainly these are the two programs I mainly use when I'm doing commission work and it be nice to know if this can handle it, hope you know~!

Don't forget to disable the power button so that it does not turn off/on every time you touch the right hand side. Instead it will need to be held down for a few seconds. Nothing worse than your cintiq cooking off in your bag... for Zbrush I get about 12 mill polys before lag.

if only you could connect the windows 8 version to a desktop as a regular cintiq like you can with the hybrid. I want to be able to use it away from my computer, but since I need zbrush, the hybrid is next to useless

I might get a drawing thingy for the pc but i always had one question: Do you have to have your hand completly lifted from the tablet? i mean i dont want to find out it is uncomfortable to use for me I just dont know how those things feel im used to traditional(but i hate to have to use pencils)

Stage Lined I almost made that mistake today. Getting a new laptop for college and was about to order something. Was with a friend that knew I like drawing and such on another really old wacom tablet and showed me the companion. I had no idea such a thing existed! More expensive than the laptop I was looking to buy but the fact that you can also use it as a regular cintiq with a desktop makes it worth it.

ya those people are probably unfamiliar about the stand because it works good and the only thing with a stand that moves is the wacom cintiq 12wx stand it slides around
