Ahhh. The Swap Shop. One of the best memories of my childhood in South Florida. It was like my family's version of Disney since my parents never took us to the real Disney. I remember being fascinated, yet afraid of the elephants. I never rode them, but I watched some performances, and I got to see them as they left and entered the stage area. It's such a shame that the shows stopped.

now this brings back memories. That flea market really did die when they removed the circus. Now it's just a nascar showroom :(

Not only that, but for a long while some of the biggest names in country music would perform there like Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson just to name a few. I saw Jerry Reed Peform there in 1992 which I videotaped and you can find it here on KZbin.....Yea the old Swap Shop ain't what it used to be by a long shot. What a shame. Nothin good lasts forever.

Love this, so many great memories here. Once I was a teenager though, I started pretty much skipping the indoor area and going straight for the back... Still the best flea market ever imo! The drive in was awesome too!

I still go to the swap shop when i get the chance. I remember the circus when i was a kid. It was our mall where we could get a 25 cent toy. Now the arcade is tucked away and its falling apart. I love this place but its seen better days. It looks frozen in time. I wish they would maintain it.

i vaguely remember the circus but my older sister does when we lived in hollywood and would always go to the swap shop bc my aunt worked at the pizza shop there. it was around hurricane katrina that the circus stopped and they put cars on that floor. my older sister has a picture of her on one of the elephants.
@racquelrichards5 жыл бұрын
Hello Bianca! This is so random but do you think your aunt would remember the name of the pizza shop that she worked at that was located at the swap shop when the circus was still there? I used to go there all the time waay back in the day, I've been searching the internet looking for the name of the pizza shop at the swap shop circus but this is the first time I've even seen it be mentioned! :)

Swapshop Owner Preston Henn evicted the circus from Swapshop in 2005. I remember they left around October, because I remember thinking the eviction occurred right before hurricane Wilma battered Broward county. Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans that year, but Hurricane Wilma was a worse hurricane for south florida.

Oh, I think I read about him in the Miami Herald about 3-years ago. If I'm correct he would ride around the shop in a golf cart. Thanks.......

Yeah, that was him. My dad used to work for him back in the day, every Sunday back in the 80's he'd be out there in that golf cart just riding around saying hi to people.
