As Johens' great Aunt I have seen Johen (Jojo as we fondly call him) make his way to a moment such as this. I don't remember who made the content, but I remember a youtuber interviewing a psychologist who said that research shows that self talk, esp. using "you" as opposed to "I", helps with performance. Research hypothesize that the brain is tricked into thinking it's outside validation.
