Thanks for posting this. I just finished reading Luther, the Life and Longing of Luther Vandross and the author refers to this moment at Luther's funeral as especially beautiful. It was.

thr33wisemonks no this is n New York City, Cissy had Whitney's at her home church where Whitney had been raised at, and did her first solo, That the New Hope Baptist church in Newark New Jersey, that church only holds 1500, this one is much bigger

No this was in Manhattan, Nippys funeral was n New Jersey at the New Hope Baptist Church where Cissy has been a member n the Music Pastor for over 50yrs

Couple of octaves? No, Whitney hasn't lot a COUPLE of octaves. But she hasn't sung any C6 since early 1990's. Even though her voice has gone more heavy and raspy at some parts, she still can sing. But no, Whitney hasn't lost a couple of octaves.
